LIke I said, in this case, I think the whole town was probably in on it. On the other hand, had there been one non-Catholic individual in town they are being “forced” into participating just by being there. I’ve watched one person tear apart public Christian traditions and rituals like this in a small town before…a couple of times.

OK, now you’re really losing me…I didn’t think the Church considered non-Catholic Christians to be heretics, schismatics and apostates anymore…

I’m also pretty sure that the Church doesn’t teach that non-Catholic Christians have no faith in God, but eh…I guess that’s just me…

It seems to me they made a local tradition more “efficient”. I think traditionalist Catholics should be more outraged than non-Catholics. If locals complain (I haven’t seen any from the multiple sites I looked at covering the story) then that would be different.
There is a tradition of blessing the fields and the local community, especially around harvest times, the Rev Barzare told NPR radio. Church-goers carried water to a local airstrip where it was blessed before being loaded onto the aircraft.

The crop duster is a good start, but I would suggest close air support from an Apache gunship with a high-pressure hose for especially sinful areas.

Sadly, there are people who reject teachings of Holy Mother Church. In the same way I was not re-baptized when I became Catholic, the Church teaches that you and many others are joined to the Church already. Catechism of the Catholic Church - PART 1 SECTION 2 CHAPTER 3 ARTICLE 9 PARAGRAPH 3

CCC [838] “The Church knows that she is joined in many ways to the baptized who are honored by the name of Christian, but do not profess the Catholic faith in its entirety or have not preserved unity or communion under the successor of Peter.” Those “who believe in Christ and have been properly baptized are put in a certain, although imperfect, communion with the Catholic Church.” With the Orthodox Churches , this communion is so profound “that it lacks little to attain the fullness that would permit a common celebration of the Lord’s Eucharist.”

Interesting, much different than what I’ve read on here from posters that I respect and trust.

So, if non-Catholic Christians don’t have faith in God…does that mean that the Church teaches we aren’t actually Christians?

I looked at Google Maps and Cow Island is pretty much fields. There are barely any buildings. The centre of Cow Island is two or three farms and the local Catholic church.
If this were a more populated place like a town then I can see more legitimacy in people’s concerns. I really think this is a case where some are getting upset over nothing because assumptions are being made and some details on a soft news story (like what Cow Island really is and looks like) weren’t reported.

How do we know they didn’t get permission? I would recommend everyone take a look at Google Maps. Cow Island is just a bunch of fields with a few farms. If someone was offended, I’m sure that will be news.

So the right thing is directly proportional to the number of people affected?

Look - personally, I’d love it if they filled up a few hundred Goodyear blimps with Holy Water and sprayed the whole country. Lord knows I can use all the help I can get.

And you’re right - probably everybody who got sprayed was happy they did - and there were probably only a dozen of them. I know this though - I, as a member of the majority religion in my country, need to consider the thoughts and feelings of others more, and in so doing, hopefully show them how my King loves me and them.

Blessing the community is a local tradition. Permission isn’t hard to get when you have to call like 20 people. Frankly, we don’t know. We don’t know the flight path. There are plenty of details missing. Until someone complains and it’s reported, then it’s quite possible some here on CAF are being offended on behalf of no one.
It’s supposed to be a “happy news” story and someone often critical of Catholicism decided to assume things and got offended.
The only real discussion with the details known is whether this is reverent or not but I’ll leave that for Catholics to decide among themselves.

My guess is that everyone was on board and thought it was a great idea. I’m just taking the other side…mainly because I ate too many leftovers and am suffering for my gluttony.

I’m not so sure?! 😃 Why, just the other day I attended an outdoor spaghetti cook-off.

Believe me, most of the marinaras that were present could have used the extra “boost!”

Think dropping holy water from an aircraft is bad…??

Sometimes you have to take the bitter with the sweet!
