Supreme court nominees

This kind of nonsense needs to stop.
One can hope that, should this attempt to derail Kavanaugh fail, we might see the end of this particular tactic. There are only so many times this approach can be tried before even some of those opposed to the nominee become uncomfortable with just how scurrilous this process has become. I agree with this comment in the Wall Street Journal:

Letting an accusation that is this old, this unsubstantiated and this procedurally irregular defeat Mr. Kavanaugh would also mean weaponizing every sexual assault allegation no matter the evidence. It will tarnish the #MeToo cause with the smear of partisanship, and it will unleash even greater polarizing furies.

That’s the down side: if this works there really is no bottom at which these attacks will stop.

So now the litmus test for anyone being qualified for such a position is based on their behavior as a teen?

Well, it will lower the credibility of actual claims and women who have been wronged. But I doubt Feinstein or Ford actually care about that. They, perhaps unrealistically ironically, see Kavanaugh as a threat to abortion rights and socially progressive causes.

I hope Mitch McConnell gets after the fence riders in the Republican Party and insist they vote to get Kavenaugh approved.Additionally, the stall tactics by this women are out of line.I hope also the Republicans shut this thing down and vote this week as planned.

Fascinating cartoon. Same argument was used to support Moore in Alabama.
Has there been anyone, though, who suggested that the legal rights of Moore or Kavanaugh be set aside?

Can anyone tell me why it was okay for Mitch McConnell to block a Supreme court nominee by Barack Obama for 10 months because it was too close to an election and then now push through a nominee two months before an election?
Because McConnell’s party controlled the Senate at the time and they could get away with it.

This situation isn’t quite the same, though. After November, Trump will still be the one nominating the judges. That wasn’t true for Obama.

It makes McCarthyism look like a reasonable procedure

It would involve the FBI because it concerns the nomination of a federal judge. Not in sense that the FBI is coming in to break up a party when some high school kids parents are out of town.
Yet, that appears to be what they would be investigating at this point, a teenage party.

One person, of checkered reputation, tweeted that sources had told him this. That person’s claim was echoed in numerous other other blogs. There has been no substance put behind the story.

What a shame that it was repeated here.

Bill Maher has said the Democrats look petty over this, he said this a few days ago. It was on the news. This may have a negative affect on the Democrats.

Three things can happen as a result of this ambush, all of which are pluses for Democrats:
  • Investigation of this (deliberately) late accusation pushes off the vote until after the elections.
  • A vote is held but a couple of…Republicans vote against confirmation.
  • A vote is held and Kavanaugh is confirmed, but Republicans are tarred with the charge of indifference to women and suffer for it in the elections.
All in all, if you’re a Democrat, what’s not to like? They’re certainly not going to suffer any blowback for taking this low road.

Yes, so, it is repeated. It does appear Blasey-Ford’s story has fallen apart. They may well vote soon on confirming Kavanaugh.

Already, Sen. Jeff Flake has said he’d be voting for Kavanaugh if Blasey-Ford does not testify. Even, Bill Maher has said “the allegations make us look bad”, I found it in the news but with him, one might not know if there is some profanity in the article.

No. At this point they are investigating the background of a federal judge.
Per the Feinstein letter:
As the Judiciary Committee has recognized and done before, an FBI investigation of the incident should be the first step in addressing her allegations," the letter continued. “A full investigation by law enforcement officials will ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner, and that the Committee is fully informed before conducting any hearing or making any decisions.”

Should we preemptively condemn everyone because such judgments are occasionally accurate? This is precisely what your comment suggests: Moore was guilty so Kavanaugh is probably guilty too.
Has there been anyone, though, who suggested that the legal rights of Moore or Kavanaugh be set aside?
You mean like the legal right to the presumption of innocence? Given there is no possibility that Kavanaugh would ever face legal charges, what legal rights do you refer to? This is about smearing a man to achieve a political goal. As Ray Donovan asked when absolved of bogus fraud charges as a member of Reagan’s administration: “Where do I go to get my reputation back?”

This is not a question of legal rights

What a sad commentary is n the state of politics and the Dem party specifically. That they would tarnish the reputation of a good man all for the purpose of pushing their leftist ruinous agenda.
This is evil pure and simple.Shame on them all!
