Why is that the point? How is it your business how they choose to provide for their family’s defense?. They have them legally that’s the point!

A very good question indeed. Why is that the point? How is it your business how they choose to provide for their family’s defense?
First let me ask this, do FOID cards need to be renewed? Why is that the point? How is it your business how they choose to provide for their family’s defense?
Actually I don’t know of any more restrictive laws in Chicago for a gun holder than any other part of the state. Please elaborate… Do FOID cards need to be renewed in Chicago periodically? Is there a state or national registry of gun sales so if people are buying an arsenal of guns between several different dealers, the FBI or the police department will be notified? As I understand it the only one that keeps those records are the dealers themselves. I imagine if someone is buying 50 or 100 military type guns within a week there should be adequate records of that so a war doesn’t start up inside our borders. That seems way beyond what a person would need for a home defense to me and red flags should go up… What about homeland security are they clueless??? To me that’s seems like a homeland security issue… Please enlighten me why a person would need 100 military stye weapons to defend one’s home…? You would think they could only actually hold one gun at a time…Mass shootings like those at Columbine, Aurora, and Sandy Hook are rare, in large cities like Chicago, Baltimore, and Detroit though, shootings are distressingly common. Coincidentally, those cities have very restrictive gun laws, laws which seem to do a very good job of keeping weapons out of the hands of law abiding citizens, but not so well at keeping them out of the hands of criminals. Perhaps this explains why people are choosing to take self defense into their own hands rather than rely on police, of whom it is said, “when seconds count, the police are just minutes away”.
BTW - If you know people who have weapons in their home who shouldn’t, why haven’t you reported them to the police? Illegally possessing a firearm is a crime.
Why does it bother you if a firearms collector owns a large collection of firearms? What criteria makes a weapon “military type”? FOIDs are specific to Illinois, so I’m not familiar with them, though I wonder if in the wake of the Heller decision, they are Constitutionally acceptable.Actually I don’t know of any more restrictive laws in Chicago for a gun holder than any other part of the state. So then how could you possibly have said this if you are not familiar with FOID cards???FOIDs are specific to Illinois, so I’m not familiar with them, though I wonder if in the wake of the Heller decision, they are Constitutionally acceptable.

A couple of points:This is Father Michael Pfleger facebook post…And believe me, he wants this to stop… He’s been working tirelessly to save lives in his area of Chicago.

I read every day about what they are dealing with and to say that Chicago has stricter gun laws than other places is just crazy. I’ll tell you what they do with 100 automatic rifles, some kid just barely old enough to buy rifles but young enough to have a clean record buys several of them at one dealer, than goes to another dealer and buys more, than goes to another dealer and buys more all done legally, and then he sells all these guns illegally on the street. That’s what a person wants 100 automatic weapons for, not to collect them as you say. What could stop him from doing this is smart data bases which alerts authority to a massive quantity being sold to the same person and/or limits anyone from buying this huge and unnecessary amount of the same guns. Now that would limit the amount of guns on the streets and also alert the police to possible criminal activity. Everything that NRA opposes… Now think about it, would a collector buy massive amounts of guns that are commonly sold for kicks? Especially at the age of 18?They buy them in the intention of using them to threaten and shoot at whoever they feel like. .I believe people have to wake up and really see the whole picture for what it is.
I"m talking about those AK-15s that one poster said was the most commonly sold rifle. I’m not a gun lover by any means so anything automatic as far as I’m concerned is way over the top because they can kill people very quickly. Apparently you are an expert on guns and when you say strictly regulated, why is it that 18 year olds can buy a hold of these weapons? I know they have limits, but that’s why they go to different dealers to buy them which is a loophole in the ‘stricter laws’.A couple of points:
- Automatic weapons are already strictly regulated and are used in crimes so rarely that the FBI doesn’t even keep separate statistics on them.
Someone who does this straw purchase doesn’t care if it is a federal felony, so laws have to prevent the federal felony from happening by monitoring our sales more closely. Someone who is on the up and up about their gun buying shouldn’t be that worried about it. Someone who isn’t on the up and up would be..
- What you’re describing, a “straw purchase”, is already a federal felony. It’s illegal to buy a gun and then sell or give it to someone who has a criminal record, or is otherwise proscribed from owning a firearm.
So the laws have a lot of flaws and loopholes, that’s why they need to be changed.
- The problem in Chicago is the law does a very good job of preventing people inclined to follow the law from obtaining firearms, but does a very poor job of preventing people inclined to ignore the law. In other words, the law keeps good people from getting guns and doesn’t prevent bad people from getting them, so it’s the worst of both worlds.
I have been taught not to speak badly of priests, especially ones who are trying to save lives. I have no idea of what his political party is, I don’t follow him into the polling box, I just know he stands up for truth irregardless of party lines. All life matters, not just lives in the womb. He is out in the trenches where many of us dare not to go. If that’s not acceptable for people, so be it. Jesus did not draw party lines.
- Regarding Father Pfleger, I’d be much more amenable to taking him seriously as a defender of the innocent if he spent less energy supporting the most pro-abortion political candidates possible in any given election.
It’s an AR-15, which is a medium caliber, semi-automatic rifle that cosmetically resembles the military M-16. They are not automatic weapons and they are used so infrequently in crimes that the FBI doesn’t keep separate statistics on them.I"m talking about those AK-15s that one poster said was the most commonly sold rifle. I’m not a gun lover by any means so anything automatic as far as I’m concerned is way over the top because they can kill people very quickly. I know they have limits, but that’s why they go to different dealers to buy them which is a loophole in the ‘stricter laws’.
So, the solution to criminals not obeying the law is to pass laws increasing monitoring on people who do obey the laws?Someone who does this straw purchase doesn’t care if it is a federal felony, so laws have to prevent the federal felony from happening by monitoring our sales more closely. Someone who is on the up and up about their gun buying shouldn’t be that worried about it. Someone who isn’t on the up and up would be.
What magic law do you propose to pass that criminals will be inclined to obey?So the laws have a lot of flaws and loopholes, that’s why they need to be changed.
Notice I didn’t mention Pfleger’s political party, I mentioned his strong affinity for pro-abortion candidates. I don’t see how it is speaking badly of a priest to point out his inconsistent support of life issues.I have been taught not to speak badly of priests, especially ones who are trying to save lives. I have no idea of what his political party is, I don’t follow him into the polling box, I just know he stands up for truth irregardless of party lines. All life matters, not just lives in the womb. The correct quote is “The love of money is the root of all evil”.My point, money is the root of all evil.
thank you for the correction yes the love of money is the root of all evil and those gun dealers are making a fortune no matter what the consequences areThe correct quote is “The love of money is the root of all evil”.
I am all for a TOTAL BAN on the AK-15. Nobody should be allowed to own one and I believe that the TOTAL BAN on AK-15 ownership would satisfy all sides of the debate.I"m talking about those AK-15s that one poster said was the most commonly sold rifle. This is no jokng matter, refer to OP and pray for them and all those who have lost their lives due to gunfire and those who have guns legally or illegally…I am all for a TOTAL BAN on the AK-15. Lots of people want to reform gun laws, but most of those people want to reform them in the opposite direction to what you want.I will just leave it at this. I’m not here to analyze gun types or talk politics but to raise public awareness of the problems with the gun laws as they stand because of our failed system of gun control as it is now. That’s why reforms are needed in this area. Too many lives are lost the way it is now.
That’s unfortunate because more guns more lives taken … The love of money being the source of this.Lots of people want to reform gun laws, but most of those people want to reform them in the opposite direction to what you want.
