Suzanne Venker: "To be Catholic and vote for Democrats in 2020 is just wrong"

I have a problem with this way of using it, yes, because it is a political term made by certain people for a certain purpose, and it is needed for that purpose and generally it is used and defined that way.

However, it seems that whenever elections roll around, we start hearing about how pro-life includes so much more, and how incredibly important it is that we not consider just abortion and how this and how that and in short, voting R because of abortion is practically sinful.

So I am sensitive about this.

We use it but it isn’t political, just for you to know. For example we say “ dignity of work” or every job is “ digno” which basically means that it doesn’t matter that you are say an architect and don’t find a job and you have to do whatever else, say drive a cab, to feed your family. It exalts the dignity of work . And is supportive of the persons who work.
Or dignity in the sense that we have to respect ourselves …not to be a doormat and allow be treated as such…
That is kind of the more everyday use here.
Really not political in my neck of the woods, Annie. Sharing just in case you hear it in a different environment.

I am not sure of what you are saying, especially since iirc you are in a different country where they speak Spanish? That makes a big difference.

To those who support the President’s policies, it highlights the irrationality and silliness of many of his detractors. But to each his own. I’ll sleep well tonight knowing my citizenship will be there in the AM.

Yes…maybe there, but not so much speaking “Catholic”.
It is like supported from “ above “ you know, in hardship…within.

We also owned slaves and sailed in wooden ships. I doubt that will happen any time soon.

People get annoyed with the hysteria from some over Obama’s birth certificate but entertain the possibility of the President (setting aside the actual lack of authority the Chief Executive would have to wily-nilly remove citizenship) might remove their citizenship.

If we are going to play that game, I don’t want to ever hear the term birther or those who talk about the many deaths surrounding the Clinton’s done in a pejorative way. It is all equally valid insanity, I guess.

I understand! Don’t worry. I wish we could meet sometimes.
Forget it ! 🙂

Well, then I understand. You should never be treated that way. It is flat out wrong. Ironically, that is the same reason I object to this article. Venker is doing the same thing, but in reverse. I would rather just point people to the Church’s guidelines and stick with what the Church says. I think for most elections, for most people who truly follow them there will be a tendency to go Republican. Judging others on this is tricky, and best left to God.

Yes, I agree that she is. I have certainly seen the reverse. I just [try to 😉] take a different approach when discussing politics.

I think different people are in different places, so they have to take different approaches to analyzing their vote.

No reason why it wouldn’t happen again.
Civil Rights Act of 1964–a reason it wouldn’t happen again. It’s illegal now.

And it couldn’t be done in secret nowadays because someone would leak it to the internet and within seconds, everyone in the U.S. would know what was happening and hopefully start protesting.

I think that if all the Catholics and other pro-life (anti-abortion, to clarify) people who want to vote Democratic party would NOT vote Democratic and TELL their preferred Party why they are not voting Democratic–that would be a pretty sizeable chunk of voters, and perhaps (but probably not) the Democratic Party Lords would feel the pinch when they lost many elections, and perhaps they would get the message and try to moderate their extreme pro-abortion stances so that people who are opposed to abortion could vote Democratic with a clean conscience.

Put some pressure on them.

I assume that all of you who vote for Democratic candidates who profess to support pro-abortion policies are consistently writing letters (preferably by hand) to your candidates and asking them to please consider taking a more moderate stance (although for the life of me, I don’t see how someone can be in favor of "some abortions. ) I hope you are writing and/or calling your Democratic candidates! Registered Democrats will certainly get more positive attention from their Party than us Republicans! Try it! Put the pressure on your Party to change!
