I do remember hearing about this saint before. I think I’m going to find a link for some kind of saint of the day & post it here as well. This story reminds of a woman saint that I had heard of before. (can’t remember her name.) She was being put to death and she had a look of peace and a smile on her face, and had also already forgiven the people that sentenced her to death. It is said that the executioner was afraid of putting her to death. I can’t remember her name, or where I read the story, but I will find it and post it here.

I just wanted to give a very heartfelt thank you to all who have responded and took part in this thread up to this point and to all who will in the future. I am extremely thankful for all of the stories, thoughts, quotes, etc that have come into fold here. I look forward to hearing many more truly inspiring stories, teachings and writings from these many truly great men and women that have been faithfully handed down to us, and who we share our faith teachings with. I just wanted everyone to know that this thread is reaching more than just people here on CAF as well. This thread has now also been linked to Facebook. I also hope and pray that this thread reaches other people who have been away from the Church, recent converts to our faith, etc. Thank you all for your contributions and please keep them coming!!! 👍 I love how the saints, even after hundreds or thousands of years have passed since their deaths, can still reach souls through their writings and bless them with deeper intimacy with God’s Kingdom!

I don’t know any quotes from Maximilian Kolbe, but I just wanted to share a short video/story about him that I found on youtube. This great man gave his life for a total stranger that was about to be put to death, while they were together in the Nazi concentration camps. It is said that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to him holding two crowns in her hand, one white and one red. The white crown symbolized purity and the red one, martyrdom. He chose both. Maximilian Kolbe passed away on the exact day that the Church celebrates the assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

I like this quote very much, thanks for posting it Lief. This quote reminds me of a story I heard about Pope John II. I heard that he accidentally slammed his hand in a car door so hard, that the door had to be opened again just so he could get his hand back out. He then turned around holding his injured hand smiling and said: “Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.” So many Saints have taught me that its real easy to praise God when all is well, but to praise God when all isn’t going so well, is really praising God.

This last part of the quote is particularly powerful. Consolations, personal experiences with God, the saints or angels, or successes in our spiritual lives must never become distractions that draw us into pride. It is so well put, here.

Yes, when I read it (it was the second reading for the Fourth Sunday of Easter in the Office of Readings) I got the feeling that all my recent failures are just to keep me focused on the ultimate goal…of course a little success once in a while wouldn’t be all that bad.

Two from my newest favorite saint, St. Thomas the Apostle:
