The Barbarian:
Sounds like the endgame, with the losers of ouf ammunition, and lashing out in frustration.

It’s the best concession, when they abandon reason and begin personal attacks.
I’m sorry but I find this post utterly repulsive. You claim you are being personally attacked? No sir you are not. I see no evidence of that. What I do see is that you ignore the truth, repeat lies, and claim falsehoods as if they are proclamations issued by King Henry VIII – with an attitude of ‘convert or die’ supremacy that rings very hollow!

You sir, I feel, owe everyone who have honorably participated in this thread an apology.
He’s always been that way, melensdad, regardless of subject. His ego allows him nothing less.

Never once have I ever seen him to admit that he might be wrong, on any subject…but he’ll accuse everyone else of not knowing what they’re talking about, of being “out of touch with reality” (I particularly like that one—when every other individual on the planet has a view in opposition to yours, which group, do you think, has the “problem with reality”?), of being out of sync with what his view of your profession might be, or of needing “more study”; and when someone responds to his unbelievably snotty arrogance and condescending superiority, he likes to take the high, self-righteous tone and make comments like you quoted above.

That’s why I said I don’t want to live in his universe (the one he inhabits, where he’s right, and everyone else is wrong. You’ll notice that he stated I had problems with reality).

Riiiiight.

Anyhow, enough of that. He’s back on “Ignore”, and the conversation can go forward.

Barbarian notes that losers will abandon arguments and resort to personal attacks.

No doubt.

Boy, I’m sure glad I’m not being attacked. 😉

“Convert or die;” very colorful, it is. Honorable? Not so sure.

Never once have I ever seen him to admit that he might be wrong, on any subject…
Then you haven’t been listening. Go back and take a look. But I couldn’t find any place where you admitted you could be wrong.

It’s rather obvious that if you believe every person on the planet disagrees with me on this, you have indeed cut the last tether to reality.

You were not, your posts were rebutted with factual information. Only when you insulted everyone you disagree with did I call you out, but I did not attack you.

Please take a step back and a deep breath. Then read the factual information. You keep making false statements. You keep diverting the issue with irrelevant points.

Now you are claiming you were attacked, after you insulted everyone else and you got called to task for doing it.

Let’s get back to the facts.

The school district took some action to protect its students that increases the safety of the students. In other areas where this same action was taken there has been documented increased security and there have been no accidents.

👍

I was out of town for a few days with no internet access. What did I miss? 😃

melensdad blows a gasket:

You were not,
That’s probably your version of civil disagreement, um? 🙂 You’d probably be more persuasive if you stopped personal attacks and learned to put a reasonable argument together.
Let’s get back to the facts.
Good start. You know that the district has never had an incident, and the likelihoods say the first one should be a few thousand years from now.

That’s the fallacy. The “hazard” they are supposedly worrying about is almost nothing, and the hazard they are implementing is greater than the one they proposed to fix. But it’s not really about protecting the kids, is it?

Far more kids are shot accidentally than are every shot in schools. The fix is more dangerous than the problem.

There you go again with your false mantra that the kids are somehow in harms way.

You mix your statistics so they suit you instead of looking at relative statistics.

ONE MORE TIME, so you can see it. In the school districts that ALREADY ALLOW faculty to have guns, there has been NO incident of a faculty member shooting a child accidently. No guest or visitors have been shot either 👍 On the other hand, there are incidents where attackers have entered school grounds and those people have been shot by armed faculty.

Its about the children 🙂

Just another great reason not to live in Texas or send your kid to public school!!!👍 👍 👍 👍

(as if there weren’t enough reasons already… )

If no one had access to guns…only police and our military…**in a perfect world…there would be less violence. /QUOTE]

You know, whatevergirl, It seems logical, and the UK tried it. The problem is that you could never get rid of all 300 million guns in the U.S., and as the UK has found out, if only criminals have guns, and responsible citizens don’t have a way to protect themselves, you have worse violence. Now the UK is blaming it on knives. (LOL) It is not just a matter of defending yourself and family in some unlikely situation. I don’t have any stats, but I think domestic violence, and sexual attacks are less where guns are available. Attacks on a woman by a 200 pound man doesn’t happen if she is armed.**

Interesting points. I took the family to the UK for the entire summer this year. We spent a good deal of time in England, Scotland and Wales driving around the island, visiting Catholic ruins, etc. EVERY SINGLE DAY we were there the news reports on the BBC and/or their newspapers were detailing problems they have with KNIFE attacks. Someone told me (I have no proof) that their knife violence rate is 800% higher than ours is!

Further, as a consequence of ‘taking away the guns’ they have also taken away the right to defend yourself in your home. One rural farmer, who used his legally owned shotgun to shoot an intruder (after having 4 break-ins at his home) was sent to jail! The farmer ended up in jail for defending himself, the criminal got free health care and got to go home after healing from his wounds.

Interesting that you would say this when guns are allowed in schools in other states, carried by faculty members. There have been no incidents to problems, and there are examples of faculty stopping attacks. So why pick on this little Texas town for following a responsible course of action that has been established in other areas?

hi melensdad;

I understand…and when I think about 9/11–those attackers didn’t have guns, they had fake explosive devices, and box cutters! Took over planes without the use of guns.

I guess the moral of all these stories…if someone wants to hurt others, he/she will find a way–gun or no gun.

I get it. I still don’t like the ‘idea’ of needing to carry a gun. My husband has been wanting to keep a gun in the house for protection…and I have always said no. I am a little afraid to, I guess, but maybe we should think about it more seriously.😦

Just my opinion, and worth nothing more than that, but before you buy a gun, you may want to see if there is some gun training class you can take in your area. FOR YOU. One specifically geared toward women. Not all areas have those classes, or at least not necessarily well publicized. But it might help you to become more familiar with a gun before making the choice. After the class, if you still are afraid, then you can figure out something else.

Most women I know who taught how to use a firearm, when it is done in a responsible way, walk away feeling very empowered and confident in themselves. The classes, especially one geared for women, tend remove the mystery and fear that many women seem to feel by showing you the mechanics of the gun, its safe operation, storage, etc.

Many women are also entering competitive shooting events, forming women’s shooting clubs, etc.

So if you and your hubby are considering a gun, then before you buy one, you may want to consider a class for you. He may need one too. But his introductory class should not be the same as your introductory class. You may each need to learn on your own level, in your own way.

Here is a link you may want to check out: nrahq.org/women/index.asp

Pump action shotgun. It is great for home defense. It is harder to miss a target and the sound of racking a shell makes the average burglar wet his pants and head out from where he came. I think alarm companies should incorporate that sound into their systems instead of a klaxon.

JMO (again) but I’m not sure that I’d put a big loud heavy recoiling shotgun in the hands of a woman who is afraid of guns.

My daughter wanted to learn how to shoot. When I finally taught her, we started out with a small, low recoil, reasonably quiet gun. (22 rifle) She watched me shoot higher power guns but her perception of muzzle blast was far different than mine. Simply put, even a reasonably tame 9mm scared her. Now she is shooting 45acp pistols like a pro. But in the beginning she didn’t even want to pick up the reasonably anemic 9mm’s. She is now asking about learning to shoot a shotgun so I may break out my Trap gun and break some clays with her this fall after the corn is harvested from the back yard.

I do agree, a pump shotgun can be an amazing deterrent, just the sound of the slide racking in a dark room would scare the heck out of me! But I still believe that slow and sure is the way to teach firearms to newbies. Again JMO.

monkey see, monkey do eh?

It’s ridiculous thing to allow teacher’s with guns in a school and expect nothing to happen, either at the teacher’s doing accidental or otherwise, or by a student getting a hold of the weapon.

Why on earth would I trust a complete stranger to have a gun around my child? How many kids are abused by teachers every year and I’m supposed to be hunky dorey with them having a lethal weapon in school??

If nothing has been reported happening in other places where this is allowed, it’s only a matter of time.

Stupid, stupid.

Interesting because there is NO EVIDENCE to support your position. There is EVIDENCE to show that faculty members have SAVED lives. I understand your prejudice, but it is based on ignorance of the facts.

Don’t you trust people with guns every day? The police have guns. The teachers in this district have the same training as the police. Further they go to special conflict resolution training above and beyond what the average police officer is required to take. Further they go through a screening process by the FBI and by the school district.
If nothing has been reported happening in other places where this is allowed, it’s only a matter of time.
Again you are wrong in your statements. Things have been reported in some of the other areas, all of them have been positive in preventing deaths. Please don’t let your bias against this prevent you from seeing the truth.

What about security guards they have in schools, they go though the same background checks aren’t they complete strangers too?

Emotional arguments need no evidnece. Can’t you just see some parent up in arms after a school shooting because the police were strangers and scared her kids? Actually, considering some parents, that would not surprise me.
