Anybody else keeping up with Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood? I’m curious about what you guys may think of it.

The mighty forum powers that be have visited us, let this serve as an example to the others…

On a lighter note, does anyone have any suggestions of a series that I could just marathon over winter break? I’d rather something that’s viewable online, but sifting through Funimations’ subbed series for something decent is rather time consuming when there’s lots of junk out there.

Depends on what you’re looking for. It really should be a rule of thumb to set a criteria and what kind of stuff you’re into. I mean, anime is chock loaded with a lot of sub-genres of its own you know. :\

Netflix is streaming most of the Space Battleship Yamato films, so that’s what I’m trying to catch up on this month…

I was, but I haven’t kept up with it for a while… probably since about episode 15. Whichever one it is where you see Scar vs. the Monopoly Guy. 😛 Anyway it’s alright.

Not a marathon but for a start i’d guess anything Ghiblii will be good for slice-of-life/light animated movie viewing. I liked the older Ghibli films (90s) particularly, “The Ocean Waves”, “Whisper of the Heart” and the classic “Grave of the Fireflies.”

There’s also recent anime movies (post-2000’s) which are good.
Tokyo Godfathers would be an apt viewing for the holiday season :christmastree1:
Action-packed ones like Paprika, Tekkon-Kinkreet, Sword of the Stranger and Sky Crawlers are also good recomendations if that suits your mood.

Sifting through the Funimation subbed list these are the in my opinion the better ones that i’ve watched.
Baccano, Casshern Sins and Darker than Black will give you your fair share of action.
Last Exile and Count of Monte Cristo (Gankutsuou) are good sci-fi/adventure stories.
Mushishi and Spice and Wolf are nice slow-paced anime.

Speaking of marathons I’ve just completed the Legend of the Galactic Heroes (110 episodes +5 OAVs), Monster (74 eps), and Turn A Gundam (50 eps) in the past 3 months. 🙂
My next long series for the break would be Twelve Kingdoms (45 eps) and then for the coming year I’m planning to watch the classics in romance animes, Maison Ikkoku, Kimagure Orange Road and Touch.

You KNOW what I’m going to say: Yuu Yuu Hakusho.

I don’t think this was from Funi but I also enjoyed Yu-Gi-Oh in the original Japanese. Season Zero is pretty cool but not generally available.

There’s a new Yu-Gi-Oh film coming out soon. Kind of a crossover, I guess.

Why watch Yu-Gi-Oh? Didn’t you see the occult symbol they had? I honestly had no idea until I found out last week. I’d steer clear of that one.

I lost my taste for bleach after episode 6.

I’d like an anime that’s clean for once.

Puhleeze! I actually play the card game. XD In fact, I would definitely put Yu-Gi-Oh! second only to Magic in the ranks of TCGs. The only thing demonic about it are the bloody price tags!! (It’s why use a deck of fake cards for practice and simulation).

sighs If only I had more time and resources to fix even just that deck. I pride myself a decent Dragon user but any expert duelist could chew me up in a flash unless I get the cards I really need.

Anyone know anything good for winter season anime this year? I usually scout T.H.A.T. blog, but I wanted to know if anyone on here has a suggestion.

Here I drew you guys a little guardian angel.🙂 (yeah it’s bad. cut me some slack 😃

I believe you about the hexagram thing; I just meant “O RLY” as in “yeah, obviously… so what?”

Your drawing reminds me of Light Yagami of Death Note, mostly because of the hair and expression on his face. It’s not bad at all! 🙂

Thanks for complimenting my drawing. It’s didn’t come out so good with colored pencil though.

And the Bleach filler that once looked so good has taken a turn for the plotkai.

I would also like to mention that Yu-Gi-Oh should be avoided like a contagious disease, but for a different reason: it’s a really poorly developed kid anime.

There are lots of occult symbols in the Vatican, for His sake, the context in which they’re used is what matters. That the Pope wears red shoes doesn’t mean that he’s a pagan Roman (well, our separated Protestant brothers and sisters like to believe so) but he’s the pontifex maximus and the patriarch of Rome (ok, so maybe some of our separated Orthodox brothers and sisters also would like to think so) and the patriarchy in Rome adopted the symbols of the Roman pagan religion as symbols of authority.

Think about it, do YOU have a “Christmas” tree? The reason that we papists bring trees into our homes, obviously, is so that we can bring inside the tree spirits that reside in them. It’s cold out there. Do YOU want to go outside in the cold, clap your hands to make sure the kami is paying attention to you, just to offer sacrifice for a limited edition Hellsing DVD box set?

I’m sorry, I’m just trying to be funny and fascitious. That, and my brain is mush studying for my only blue book exam tomorrow (hurray for graduate studies! hurray for … 20 , page … historiography papers … oh darn…)

On a more serious note, how many of ya’ll knew that’s why the Japanese clap their hands before they pray?😛

Exactly what I was about to say. I really hate it when Catholics start acting like fundamentalists and start getting worked by seeing pagan symbols in everything. So Yu-Gi-Oh! makes use of non-Christian symbols, big deal. That’s not enough to bring out some giant, kaiju version of Horus every time I use him. (And I frequently have since I don’t want my opponent flooring me with Spell Cards. :P)

As far as the anime is concerned, I’m not into it much anymore (although I liked the movie). I still think the card game is good though.

What bothers me more is their increasing propensity toward silly fanservice. (like opening 10 and that stupid, stupid “bathing suit episode”) :doh2:
