I read a few chapters of One Piece and I actually like the story. The art on the other hand? Er, not so much. >_>;;
Husband: Why doesn’t One Piece have the female fanbase that so many other shounen shows have like Reborn? (just to clarify…he meant the kind with rabies that reads too much into a handshake)

Me: Have you looked at it? It’s hideous.

Husband: …oh yeah.

😛

I’ve heard of Fairy Tail…I’ve heard good things about it too. I just haven’t had the chance to see it myself.

If left to my own devices I tend to gravitate more towards the comedies (which is why I latched to One Piece I guess). Like…“Squid Girl” may lack substance but it was the first show that made me laugh out loud in a long time. 😃

I see, then I will leave you with…the truth.

Sorry, I don’t like going to sites that might infest my computer (in more ways than one).
By the way, seeing as you’re new, I’ll tell you before the mods do that linking sites that might potentially have anti-Catholic material as well as promote the outright heretical is highly discouraged.

You’re right. >_>;;

lightbulb suddenly pops over head

Waittaminnit! I could use this! Now I have justification for having a majorly female cast of characters!! MWAAAAHAHAHAH!!! Take that yaoi fan girls!!! You will only have little (if any) of my creations to victicimize!! AAAAAHAHAHAHHAHA!!! >8D lightning flashes

You’ll probably find it as generic as any other shounen but the execution is still very commendable. I guess it’s shows that such a plot is still a tried-and-true formula. 😃

Fairy Tail is plenty funny, believe me. That whole guild is just plain whack!! :rotfl:

Eh? Ika Musume? Are you talking about Ika Musume!? 8D I only watched a few episodes and I actually love that show too! :rotfl:

There’s surely Christian messages within the Studio Ghibli films, I mean similar to Disney there’s a lot of stories about finding oneself and strength to conquer obstacles. There’s always a sense of ‘good’ and morality, that children need when growing up, and adults alike need to refresh their faith.

And the yuri fangirls or fanboys?

Well, make a cast of robots! … wait, some people like to make slahs pairings of robots too.

Blessings !!!

I wouldn’t say whether there’s a Christian message or not.
Christians are not the only people who share these beliefs. And even if something isn’t specifically christian, that does not make it bad. 😛

… don’t care. Yaoi is the greater evil! >_<;;; braces to get hit by harisens, folded newspapers, and protesting cries of double-standards

P.S.

Sorry, I just really hate yaoi more. It comes with the territory when you’re a guy as hetero as I am. :o

Yes, Sailor Kenshin, I’m praying for Japan.

Suni, the attitude of some fans is shocking indeed, it looks like they care only because affects their source of entertainment, and is Japan… very sad.

Blessings!!!
👍

I’m continuing to watch TV Japan (and may even subscribe to it once the free intro ends), because I’m not just interested in ‘anime’ but in all of Japan, including its troubled Catholic history.

Do you guys know of Wolf’s Rain??
There is a Christlike figure called Kiba in it.

Also I never really thought what catholic people thought of hentai, as with the yaoi vs yuri discussions, they’re both erotic artwork.

Yes, the history of Catholicism in Japan is very interesting and inspirational, some great figures and Saints too.

I don’t like that stuff.

For me, both yaoi and yuri are the same.

I remember when I used to watch Animax, Wolf’s Rain was in the programming, but I didn’t watch the whole series.

Blessings !!!

Hentai is definitely 99% garbage, with the 1% always managing to get a clean version released the next day. I say this because I know plenty of people downloading that junk from the hentai industry so if any pro-hentai lurker/guest here thinks I’m judging it all from the outside, think again buddy. I have actually seen how stupid and messed up your world is. BP

On the other hand, it’s a common fact that most fan girls are into yaoi while most fanboys are into yuri. Following that, it’s also predictable that a preference for one will lead to a distaste for the other and that gender plays quite a role.

It’s only natural really. If one hot bishie is good enough for one girl, how about two?
Do the same with fanboys. One hot girl = wolf whistles. Two hot girls = nosebleeds

So it’s okay for a Catholic to be attracted to hot anime girls?
As long as you know, it’s a healthy attraction…

Generally, yeah. They’re not real though so remember that if you’re attracted to them, try to find some real girls with the same personalities. 😛

Yuri isn’t pornographic, though. Yuri is actually in the shojo demographic.
I think what you mean is lesbian hentai. Most fanboys aren’t going to drool over yuri, they’re more likely to find it boring, because it’s not really sexual…

Yaoi on the otherhand, is porn by definition. BL is a series with canon relations between two males, that isn’t pornographic.

Really, it’s all a matter of keeping technical terms straight… It prevents one from stumbling upon things they wouldn’t want to read.

You’d be right in saying that not all yuri is smut. However, the same is with yaoi. I’ve seen online manga collections categorize both to more of the “hard stuff” whilst the tamer stuff are dubbed “shoujo ai” and “shounen ai” respectively.

… Did you skip over a bit of my post? 😦
YAOI is always porn. If anyone says otherwise, they’re using yaoi as an umbrella term.
Technically, yaoi is porn.
Quotin’ time…

“Yaoi is an acronym created in the dōjinshi market of the late 1970s by Yasuko Sakata and Akiko Hatsu[6] and popularized in the 1980s[7] standing for Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi (ヤマなし、オチなし、意味なし?) ‘No climax, no point, no meaning’”

Basically, yaoi is meant to say “here, want something with no legitimate story, and just the porn? This is for you, forget an indepth, intricate plotline, and actual substance!”
Online manga collections
Don’t believe everything on the internet, definitions are misused.
Why? Because a large audience of teenage fangirls misuses them, and it becomes so muddled that everyone else has to stoop to their level, so theeey understand.
Yaoi is technically porn.

The “yaoi” without porn? It’s called BL. Shounen-Ai, while used by western fans, is an outdated term in Japan. Nowadays, in Japan, shonen-ai refers to real life pedophiles.

Not manga without smut, focusing on attractive young males.

As for yuri, as I said in my previous post… 99% of ACTUAL yuri isn’t pornographic. We, in the west, just use yuri as an umbrella term to describe any anime or manga focusing on lesbians.

All I’m saying is that yuri has a BL counterpart as well. The 99% you’re talking about is now being called shoujo-ai. People mix them up. 😛
