I don’t want to say ‘like me,’ but, well. I try.I’ve seen some clean ones. Not every fanfic writer is perverted. Just the notorious ones who think shlock sells. Serious writers know better.

It isn’t. But as long as the most meaningful relationships in shonen (which gets the most fic about it) are between the hero and his rival or sidekick instead of the hero and the heroine, and as long as the target audience for most fanfiction is young girls experimenting with romance for the first time, there will definitely be a huge amount of it./yawn…
Fanfiction: Why is it always yaoi?
/discuss
(should have quoted your post earlier but didn’t)As a fanfiction writer, I’ve always been asking this too.
Even when looking up smut fics for anime like Fate/Stay Night (which originated as a hentai game) you would find an overwhelming amount of yaoi fics in 'em! DX<
YOU STUPID FAN GIRLS!! GIVE CHANCE TO OTHER KINDS OF PAIRINGS DAGNABBIT!!! D8<
Actually, I consider myself a sort of infiltrator of the hentai underground. What better way to attack an industry than discovering its weak points? (And believe me, I have found many gripes with hentai and smut from a literary perspective).(should have quoted your post earlier but didn’t)
You know you have no right to complain if you’re looking for FSN porn in the first place, right bro? Especially since all the girls in it are so emotionally damaged that reading smutfic with them is the anime girl equivalent of watching all the hardcore porn out there with Eastern European women who get sold into sex slavery under pretenses of a job as a maid.
Zone had a continuation!I just finished watching Transformers Victory and Zone, completing the Generation One Anime (Japanese exclusives). I have to say that the character art and animation in some episodes is better than any of the other previous G1 stuff. A pity Zone only became one episode. I would have like to have more of an explanation as to who or what Volenjiger is and just how a bunch of old Decepticons got resurrected (namely the ones who, to my knowledge, didn’t die in the first place).
No one who understands the radiating nature of personal sin should be reading/watching/ playing such stuff. The ‘literary’ angle is an excuse that won’t hold water. “It’s porn but it’s well-written porn.” Come on. You don’t even really believe that.Actually, I consider myself a sort of infiltrator of the hentai underground. What better way to attack an industry than discovering its weak points? From my “studies” though, there really is a schism between the straight fan boys and the yaoi fan girls. Furthermore, it just doesn’t make sense. Why would there be yaoi fics about a game that was explicitly directed towards an extremely hormonal male audience?
However, you are so wrong about the girls in FSN. They’re pretty well-made characters. Saber herself has inspired me to create my own tomboyish girl knight. In fact, FSN’s one of the very few h-games that I find dangerous since story-wise, it’s pretty nice. It’s not like other h-games that are just constantly about sex. Then again, games like that somehow have this magical ability to have clean, non-pornographic versions. :ehh:
Assuming you’re being frank about your motivations for being in hentai fandom (and seeing as you’re a young adult male, I’m not entirely sure you are), that’s what I told myself when I started reading yaoi two years ago, man. As I discovered to my detriment, you can’t really try and be a bridge between the light of Christ and the more morally questionable bits of fandom without a certain level of personal holiness that tbh I don’t think either of us have.Actually, I consider myself a sort of infiltrator of the hentai underground. Meh, my objective is really less about bridging anything but more of finding weaknesses in hentai without coming off as a religious prude. Let’s face it. Nobody wants to hear religion being mentioned in a debate. I see hope in what I’ve discovered. That hope being that hentai is more less nothing but carnal, disturbing, sexually charged trash fiction.Assuming you’re being frank about your motivations for being in hentai fandom (and seeing as you’re a young adult male, I’m not entirely sure you are), that’s what I told myself when I started reading yaoi two years ago, man. Well the thing is, it’s their cast. A good majority of shounen have male-dominated casts. They’re not like h-games like FSN where you actually have to choose amongst a selection of girls. Other than the choices of Saber, Sakura, Rin, and Rider, another game includes a girl named Caren Ortensia. Then you have supporting characters such as Taiga, Ilya, Caster, Bazett… it really doesn’t add up for me. I mean FSN only has about four bishies in it (Shiro, Gilgamesh, Archer, and Lancer). And about your “doesn’t make sense” question, Naruto. Bleach. Yu-Gi-Oh. Prince of Tennis. They’re all for ten-year-old boys, so you would think people would sexualize it even less than FSN, which is intended to be eroticized, but a pretty substantial part of those fandoms are fifteen-year-old girls. If it’s got interesting male characters girls will be on it.
Well thanks for telling me this. It may help give me more understanding behind what goes on in their heads. The whole Cute Boys theory isn’t new though. It’s the same with straight guys and yuri (and yes, I’m a dude and I soo hate myself for housing a yuri fan boy in my head). DXI actually sympathize with yaoi fangirls, a lot of whom are just trying to figure out romance from a distance. Picking two boys might be part of the distancing factor as well as for “OMG CUTE BOYS”: they don’t have to worry about what it’s like being a girl in romance (even if they unconsciously make one of the dudes into a girl al ot of the time).
Really? I don’t know, they’re more like archetypes to me. They’re kind of a turn to guys apparently.Re: FSN, they’re well-made characters, but they’re also horribly emotionally screwed up in some way or another. You probably see them as tsundere or kuudere or whatever, but those are all signs of emotional instability, rather than personalities anyone should be attracted to. I can’t see how it would be anything but creepy for someone to watch Sakura or Rin, for instance, having sex, and Shiro/Saber has wayyyyyyy too many unfortunate implications. Next you’ll be trying to persuade me about the artistic value of Kampfer or Queen’s Blade XD
You’d be surprised how “well-written porn” virtually don’t exist. No one who understands the radiating nature of personal sin should be reading/watching/ playing such stuff. The ‘literary’ angle is an excuse that won’t hold water. “It’s porn but it’s well-written porn.” Come on. You don’t even really believe that.
I have an idea for your next research project:I see hope in what I’ve discovered. That hope being that hentai is more less nothing but carnal, disturbing, sexually charged trash fiction.
Everyone knows porn rarely has aesthetic value, even people who don’t watch porn. There are some well-written stories or well-shot films, but they’re like an Eli Roth movie for sex instead of violence. And yeah, for fangirls two guys are enough, but two girls are enough for fanboys of shows like Dirty Pair. Please don’t be condescending about fangirls like some of my friends, you are yourself a fanboy and do not have the moral high ground you think you do, especially because you’ve convinced yourself you watch porn for the aesthetic value whereas most of them are honest with themselves about wanting to watch men go at it because they think it’s hot.lots of stuff
My “fandom little sister” and I are working on a POWER OF FRIENDSHIP fantasy series with a 90%-female cast. It’s not “Catholics infiltrating the entertainment industry” by any means (she’s not even religious), but we want to write women who are interesting characters that aren’t turned into something for guys to drool over.stuff about entertainment industry
Like I said upthread, I think it’s an escape in a lot of cases. I could go on about my literal Thoughts on Yaoi, but am not gonna discuss it anymore because it’s a topic that sets me off and tbh Lost Wanderer is already setting me off about hentai/moe, which is a more important issue.Haha! They all laughed at me, they did! But look, look! Look at how just one utterance of yaoi has driven them mad! If I can derail a forum discussion for my own amusement, just imagine!
First the forums, then…then the world!
Sorry, my brain is now mush from finals. But seriously, there’s something to yaoi that seems to transcend pr0n. I can’t explain it, you take two average anime fangirls and have them watch a gay porn flick and watch them puke. Make the same two fangirls, give them a fanart pic of the two male characters of *Vampire Knight *and atch them squeel…oh geez, I can’t believe I’m even contemplating this as an academic discussion. You get the picture.
On a related note, there’s more sexual tension written into Vampire Knight than something that normally has a lot of sexual tension written into it.
I hate when my threads get de-railed. I’d better fix this. Luckily, not all anime is so sexually-driven. I can think of several anime titles with not an ounce of sexual tension in them. We also have to remember that we’re dealing with an entirely different culture from our own here.Haha! They all laughed at me, they did! But look, look! I fixed it for ya.I’d better fix this. Luckily, all anime is so sexually-driven.
That’s strange, because I’m the exact opposite with Bleach.I like the manga version of Bleach. The anime version is okay, but it looks so much better in black and white. Also, anyone ever heard of D Gray-Man? One of my faves.![]()
Have watched both Eden of the East (Higashi no Eden) and BaccanoSo no one watched Eden of the East? How about Baccano, then?
