It is wrong to include Germany here. It did respond much better than the US.

Both countries hit 100 cases March 1.
Here is where they stand Now:
Germany:
No it is not wrong, Germany is now extending their shutdowns. Germany is still taking severe measures. Let’s remember, the US federal bureaucracies, FDA and CDC slowed down testing.

Germany may be requiring all people wear facemasks. It hardly sounds like they conquered this problem. This is severe, even the USA has not done this yet.

Just throwing numbers up certainly is of limited value.

The quality of the response is measured by outcome.
Taking strong action enhances quality,
Good if one knows their response was stronger than other nations.

There’s hundreds of variables involved here, nursing homes have been especially hard hit, demographics of a locale and so on.

Good if one knows their response was stronger than other nations.
Their outcomes are much better than ours.
I suppose one might try to explain that away, but the question was what Western nation responded better. The answer is Germany, among others.

But that’s not proven. As said there are a myriad of factors and I don’t think Germany possibly requiring everyone to wear masks points to some great success rate.

Fiji has had a low rate of infection as of 10 days ago.

I am not going to figure out that it is because of their strong response.

It’s still another Western country that had problems with it and continues too.

We both had ~100 cases on March 1.
Now we have 868,482 and they have 151,332
We have had 49,094 deaths, they have had 5,369 deaths
We have had 84,825 recovered, they have had 103,300.

More recoveries are better than fewer.
Fewer deaths are better than more.
Less infection is better than more

Did someone say it was?

The New Yorker…this is just another article to trash President Trump over the
pandemic since they have failed with the investigations and the impeachment.
They have to keep up the attacks about what a bad president he is. Nothing new to see here. Move on.
The irony is that outside of NY and NJ, the US is doing remarkably well.

Most of the deaths are in 4-5 states. Fortunately, the death toll in the remaining states has been low. In my county of 4.85 million 83 have died as of yesterday.
In our state of almost 8 million - around 225 as of yesterday. Many who have died had underlying medical conditions.
Were autopsies done on every death?

Yeah…and you claim that most Canadian pharmaceuticals come from “third world countries.”
I suspect that has changed since I last purchased pharmaceuticals for a Fortune 100 company’s health programs. Now, it look like Canada’s, like ours, mostly come from China. Whether China is “third world” probably depends on where you live in China. The party favored live pretty well, it seems. The Uighurs certainly don’t.

it reminds me that Trump is not exempt from negative press.
Oh no. Since the left media pillories him 24/7/365 and has since he announced he was running for president, I don’t think anybody thinks he’s exempt from negative press.

He might be responsible for a lot of things, but the TDS phenom isn’t one of them.

( not directed at you… Just the first thing that came to my mind )

We have heard the health benefits of ‘shelter and place’ but Dr Erickson discusses the downside including economic devastation, increase in suicides and alcoholism, the increase in spousal and child abuse, the weakening of immune systems and the lack of medical attention for other serious medical conditions.

Show me a Western nation that responded better?
Could we say every country that sits below the US curve, & if not then these are just 2 that I know of, that are way ahead of them all.

AUSTRALIA
NEW ZEALAND

I have read that less than 10% of deaths of people WITH COVID 19 have happened in countries with hotter climates. So it would seem that hotter climates either kill or slow down the virus spread. That would include Australia. In February / March when COVID19 was becoming an issue Australia was at the tail end of their summer season. Also Australia and New Zealand are probably at the end chain of international travel. Very few people travel to Australia and New Zealand in order to get to somewhere else.

I am not saying one countries response is better than another’s. I think there is too much politicking here. Let’s just accept that every western country and the specialists involved are doing the best they can and keep an open mind as more data comes in.

I didn’t realize those countries were in the West. I’ll have to look at the globe again.

Right under

I didn’t realise USA was a western country as true to the definition Western countries are European. These definitions changed a long time ago to include modern developed countries where the motherland (Europe) had predominantly migrated & claimed centuries ago.

They now include USA, Australia & New Zealand amongst many others not actually in Europe.
