There was no zeitgeist. Not referring to you, but that is Leftist terminology, referring to some mythical concept. Nothing happened by itself. Time does not change anything, only people do. The goal was destruction. The destruction of key institutions down to neighborhoods.
The goal was to tell people not to trust the people they had trusted for decades. From the period: “Don’t trust anyone over 30!” And “We’ll burn this country down if we have to!” So, who to trust? They didn’t put it into so many words, but it boiled down to: “Trust us.” That’s right. We welcomed the strangers. We heard their destructive and fake gospel: Live with your girlfriend, marriage is just a piece of paper, smoke dope and use other illegal drugs, which they could supply. They kept using the word freedom. But what they were selling was corruption disguised as freedom. Enemy number one was the Catholic Church followed by sexual morality and the family. Those things had to go. A look at history:
1960 The FDA approves The Pill. Most women don’t want it and most women don’t have access to it.
1966 The National Organization for Women is founded. One of the founders, Betty Friedan, compared the family to “a comfortable concentration camp.” Feminist icon, Gloria Steinem, and co-founder of Ms. Magazine [1971], had this to say about men: “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle.”
1967 Time magazine runs a cover story about The Pill. The story tells women about a false freedom. What they called “Freedom from Fear.” Fear of what? Babies. They also had to move product.
1967 The Land O’ Lakes Statement is signed, which cut ties with the Catholic Church. The results?
1968 Humanae Vitae is published. Within 24 hours, those who had prepared an attack should the Pope go the “wrong way” follow through since he did.

“an event unprecedented in the history of the Church” cannot be overemphasized. A planned, coordinated attack to confuse Catholics and the general public.
1969 NARAL, or the
National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws , is founded. However, this group used deceptions and falsehoods to sell abortion to the American public and the media. Co-founder, Bernard Nathanson, would later reveal the tactics used.
1970s So-called Adult Bookstores appeared everywhere. No one asked for them or wanted them. Laws were put in place to make sure they were not located near schools. Someone paid the rent, paid the photographers and printers and paid for distribution. Only a few years prior, the worst you could legally do was buy Playboy. Someone allowed others to sell graphic pornography. Then topless bars and strip clubs appeared. Did Catholics do this?
