Paddy1989:
Italy has stated they have started to see the reduction of the curve and the effects of the lockdown working to. Cases are dropping every day so they deaths should hopefully follow. It can take weeks for the lockdown to take effect and look like it’s working.
This in no way means they are not overwhelmed though does it. China is trying to minimize a second wave
Agree, they are still overwhelmed however Italy like many countries acted too late and paid for it. As the number reduces it will become more manageable. As for China, to be honest i highly doubt the stats they put out

Everyone acted too late in the west. Western countries were evacuating citizens from Wuhan way back in January, 2-3 weeks after the reality of this virus there became obvious. Yet everyone said its a Chinese thing, lets watch them contain it.

We have absolutely no excuse. We were evacuating , we should have all acted then

We are going to have a great 2nd half and I would expect the market to make new highs.

Recovery will be swift

I want to here her address. It probably will be on around 1 or 2 in the afternoon
where I live - mountain standard time U.S.A.

The idea i believe to keep numbers down now is to do so until a vaccine arrives, to try and make sure the curve comes in small waves we fight to keep down that let it overwhelm our hospitals
Yes, we want to keep the numbers down but we can’t keep jumping into a 3-4 wk lockdown every time the curve reappears over the next 18 months (till vaccine is available). We have to figure out how to go about our business with enough changes to reduce R0 to <1.0

For those that can’t access Queen Elizabeth’s speech via Youtube - click to 1.18 min

A lot of us fear repeated rises, troughs and rises again. Hope in antibody testing until a vaccine arrives. 🙏

Antibody testing would be really helpful. Those of us who have made it through initial exposure and developed antibodies could work or volunteer and, perhaps, donate blood/plasma which might be useful for others.

Coumo’s latest press conference was encouraging. As a New Yorker, I needed that.

Wilson is here!

Boris Johnson is in hospital with this virus now.

And a Tiger at the Bronx zoo has tested positive for Covid19 after being exposed to an asymptomatic worker

I’m American and never saw her addresses but after watching her message of resolve and hope earlier today online I now know why Genesis sang “we always watch the queen on Christmas day, won’t you stay.”

Antibody testing will show who has recovered from this virus and who is still vulnerable. That’s useful information. I assume those in research areas that have recovered are asked to donate their plasma for both further research and plasma treatment to those seriously ill.

What we need to know as soon as it’s available is how long the antibodies last in our system and what level is needed to confer immunity.

The reason we don’t have a vaccine for the common cold is because the several viruses that cause it mutate frequently. No sooner do you acquire an immunity to a cold virus then it mutates and you are no longer immune to the new strain. The good news is that flu virus mutates much more slowly, so immunity lasts about a year. This virus has already mutated but it also seems to be a slow mutation and not a dramatic one, so there is good hope a vaccine can be developed and be effective for at least a year. We just don’t know yet. How long an antibody lasts in our circulation will need time, obviously, to know.

I started a thread earlier to discuss a vaccine and should it be mandated (most think no) and could employers require a vaccine or proof of antibody before allowing a return to work. We have time to think about this as we just don’t have enough knowledge yet about a vaccine, length of immunity, etc. it’s interesting to speculate and we have time right now to do so.

If we can get a handle on this virus now, we’ll be in much better shape later to make wise decisions!

If anyone has a British stiff upper lip, it’s the queen. She really is an amazing woman. It was a good speech as well!

Her speech holds as much value to me as an Irish Catholic as the Imam of mecca lol

You don’t know the woman to know she is amazing, you have been painted a picture by the media. She is the head of the Church of England which over the years has introduced many heresies. The royal family today are nothing more than modern day celebrities, similar to the kardashians as the UK is a militant secular country and doesn’t care about the religious part they represent.

At least as a secular nation they aren’t as militant about their anti Catholicism as they used to be.

I agree but only governments will know based on professional advice when to reduce the lock-down. For example in New Zealand we are seeing case numbers stabilize due to the lock-down however we are also about to go into winter. The issue there is if when we go from level 4 to level 3 we will have to be vigilant where if we see a huge spike in cases we may have to go into lockdown again however the idea is keeping things at level 3 for a long period of time to keep cases low enough for the hospital system to deal with

I don’t really care for the royal family as celebrities but I do care about the monarchy because constitutional monarchy is the best form of government, which I would enjoy debating. Just not here as that would be taking this very large thread way off topic and I’m sure OurLadyofSorrows wouldn’t be too happy about that.
