There are now over 170 fatalities and over 7700 now have it.

The “whole world needs to be on alert” to fight the coronavirus, the head of the World Health Organization’s Health Emergencies Programme has said.
Dr Mike Ryan praised China’s response to the deadly outbreak, saying: “The challenge is great but the response has been massive.”
The WHO will meet on Thursday to discuss whether the virus constitutes a global health emergency.

At the time of this news report on WHO current responses the numbers were smaller.

Still only five cases in the US and the plane carrying around 200 people has landed in California about 11 hours ago.

As of about 4 hours none of them have been determined to have the virus.
 
News reports are they are not showing symptoms, however we know it is contagious without symptoms being shown.
In Australia the latest confirmed case caught a domestic flight and became ill on that. So all on that flight are at risk. Where they headed is also a concern, nationally and internationally.
Its best to look outside one country as we are a global people now. In Germany several people caught the virus from a visitor who was incubating the virus and traveled around.
We should not panic, but we should be realistic about the direction this virus is heading.

Philippines has its first confirmed case. Patient is asymptomatic currently. Uh oh. 😦
 
This virus will be most difficult in highly populated poverty areas. 💔

We’ll probably see this virus rip after quarantine observation is completed for medical data.
 
The church here has come out with the oratio imperata for the virus starting on Feb 2. M ybeef is why wait starting of Feb 2? I find this is the case, even with the dengue epidemic. They would wait until there are many who died or got sick before praying it at Mass. I prefer that we pray starting right now and not wait for things to get worse, lives are at stake.

Links and comments on influenza are off topic. Please stop discussing influenza and adding links to this thread.
We have a rapidly spreading corona virus that is proving fatal in some infected and not in others. WHO has declared it a global emergency. If it gets into countries with weaker health care systems, they will be likely unable to cope. There are cities in complete lock down and this is having a massive impact on people.
This is a virus spread through contact with an infected person when they are still in the incubation period. This is a virus whose confirmed infected count and mortality rate are increasing daily.
I have a prayer thread up for those who wish to contribute in prayer for the halt of this virus and the rapid development of the vaccine.

This is not a thread about Influenza, if you all wish to discuss influenza, start a new thread.

The is a concern but Coronavirus is also a serious problem wherever flu is in peak season. Someone could experience a devastating double infection. So there is no harm in describing the symptoms of both.

Given we dont have all the information about Corona virus as yet and we are not the authorities, we should only be giving medical links to its symptoms.

Corona virus is a concern in countries that are not at peak flu season, people in those countries experiencing summer are also experiencing Corona virus. In fact one of those countries, Australia, in mid summer, is listed as one of the top ranking for concern on the spread. So we must stop conflating Influenza and Corona virus.
Corona virus is a serious problem regardless of the hemisphere and season it finds itself in.
They are two separate issues. I am asking people not go off topic and discuss influenza.
