Maybe not in the most literal sense, but the political system was designed to benefit the white minority and exclude the black majority from political institutions.
And economic institutions. An interesting form of socialism imposed on blacks while whites enjoyed free markets. The results were obvious

Now that safety net isn’t there and everybody has rights but no responsibilities.
My spiritual advisor told me that the true meaning of freedom is the invitation to responsibility. This is why adults have more freedom than minors, because it is assumed that adults will be more responsible.

Rights with no responsibility is not freedom but license.

Exactly.

And also, I don’t think the enlightenment was all bad. I think the concept of “rights” is a useful way to look at things, but it can go off the rails pretty badly.
For instance, if a person has the “right” to have sex, that implies that there is a person out there “obligated” to give them sex.
That’s why you need that tether back to responsibilities (and right reason).
Which the early Enlightenment philosophers had.

Apartheid has always been from the left.

Another thing my spiritual advisor told me was that true freedom lies in the ability to choose the good over evil.

I could see that. I have a buddy in Cincinnati. Very polarized. I have the benefit of there being 1 Biden supporter in my entire county that we know of. If there’s any others they keep it to themselves.
Here, there are no Trump signs. None. Lots of Biden and BLM signs. Until you get out into farm country. Then it’s all Trump signs. The Trump supporters in the city put out American flags.

Correct. …

My son lives in a subdivision outside Lexington, he won’t put any Trump signs out because he’s afraid his property might get vandalized. Pretty sad.

Exactly. Trump supporters are absolutely silent here. My family and I went on vacation to the Smoky Mountains a couple of weeks ago. We drove through southern Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee. I was amazed at the Trump signs and bumper stickers all over the place as soon as we left the city.

2016 on my street there were about 50ish Trump/Pence signs. 0 HRC signs
Today 0 Trump/Pence signs. 0 Biden/Harris There are about 10 Jesus/2020 signs

At Mass
2016 about 10% of cars had Trump/Pence 0% HRC
Today 1% Trump/Pence 10% Biden/Harris

This is a Red State. I live in a Air Force driven community.

Here it’s neighbor vs. neighbor. One has a Trump sign, the next has Biden/BLM/both… Whole suburbs like this. The city itself is almost all Biden.

Midwest. It’s insane.
From my Midwest perspective, it’s the rioters.
Not the case here. There’s a strong showing of angry Trump voters — they even decorate their cars with their own writings against typical Dem platform issues and in support of Trump. A couple of them refer to Trump as their savior, no joke. People on both sides have lost their minds.

Some people have signs with DT’s hair and the word “Nope”.

But at first glance I thought they meant the character Leslie Knope from the TV show Parks and Recreation.

We aren’t allowed to put political signs up in my neighborhood
We aren’t either, never-the-less, Biden signs and BLM signs started appearing everywhere. I chair the compliance committee and had to remind them of the rules. I’m not being partisan here. We are allowed to fly flags, though. Soon giant “dump Trump” and Trump clown flags started appearing.

It’s so disrespectful, and in my mind indicative of the true nature of many Biden supporters.
