Lets do a real purge of all the racists in our history… Can we remove Hugo Black’s picture from the Supreme Court? The man was a racist, anti-Semite, extreme anti-Catholic bigot who was a lawyer for the KKK. FDR’s [another racist] first supreme court pick by the way. Woodrow Wilson was a racist too. Lets remove every statue and picture, honor and writing of these racists. How about Jimmy Carter - lets get rid of his pictures and honors - he signed the law that reinstated US Citizenship to Jefferson Davis - President of the Confederacy - go figure. Senator KKK Byrd of West Virginia - every honor, building, statue that has his name on it should also be purged. The Democratic Party is the party and founder of the KKK … we should disband it.

In fact our founding documents as Thbolt and others have said Declaration and Constitution should probably be torn up - obviously they were written by rapist slaveholders - they cannot really have any thing good within them.

Of course - slavery still exists in the world. I still wonder when African Americans will stop identifying with the Continent that is peopled with the descendants who sold them into slavery?

Why just go after some statues - lets purge them all - every statue offends someone in some way. Face it - this is a way to create division and hate - stirring the pot. It is not going to end - not with the last Confederate Statue, not with the last founding father, not with the last explorer and not with the last statue erected to the last white person.

I still say - If I now lived where a statue of someone I was not overly pleased with or offended by - I would not tear it done - I would bring bird seed and make sure the birds felt welcome on and around the statue.

“Endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights.”
There are even progressives here that say rights come from government., that government can create rights snd even remove them.

“That among these rights are life“
Wait for the complaint that this isn’t an abortion thread.

“liberty and pursuit of happiness.”

The ongoing move toward socialism is a direct contradiction of property rights.

There’s more, but there it is.

Americans have the right to destroy statues
I don’t think Americans have the right to destroy… they have the right to protest, the right to vote, the right to voice their opinion and then we can all make a decision… we have the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness… destroying property that belongs to others isn’t part of the deal…

Kids are already missing out learning about these historical figures. European and American history are much less offered in college curricula than they used to be; the same for European literature. Ethnic studies, begun in the late 1960’s, are today all the rage. Even English majors are no longer studying Shakespeare. What a pity. Why can’t we have both? My generation started this and we reap the consequences.

I thought I said that. We are the guilty party.

But not everything we did was so bad. Some of our high ideals changed society for the better. I would say it was a mixed bag.

The Romans destroyed statues of men they did not think deserved Roman honor and Americans have the right to destroy statues of men that did not uphold American honor.
Actually it was the Roman Government which destroyed statues of men they did not think deserved honour. Destruction of statues by citizens was an offense.

Yes but what do tou mean by no flexibility? You mean teachers can’t expand on the subject? You need to be specific.

To be fair, us Catholics don’t believe property rights are absolute.
No one said anything about “absolute”, but One of the basic foundations of liberty is the right to property. It goes beyond owning things, or land, or even the means of production (which socialism destroys). The right to property is intellectual, as well. The right to speech and press have their roots in property rights.

You can, but that’s not because he’s wrong. People who suffer from arrogance rarely listen to others.

Yes, I did, but again, you can ignore and disagree with it.

I doubt though you even read the article in its entirety.
