If you’re interested in Franciscans who have health care as part of their apostolate, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George are a definitely worth looking into. (I’m discerning with them now.)

Yeah, I forgot to list that one! I’m planning on making a visit there to learn more about them when I get the chance. Their habit and apostolates are beautiful!

Carm, have you considered going for the LPN?

You can work as a CNA while you go to school. As an LPN, you will be of much more value to your congregation, whatever your role, and if you end up not entering or not staying, to yourself. As a sister or nun, you could work in the apostolates and/or in your order’s infirmary, which regardless of the average age, is going to have some sick and elderly sisters.

I think that you would also find the work much more interesting and rewarding (literally, too $;)) as an LPN.

Yes, I am definitely going back to school, but I have to get a job first as a CNA before taking that step. It’s so expensive, but worth it in the end. I will only have 9 more months to complete in the LPN program, but I have to get accepted in to the limited access program first. 😊 I’m sending in my application for acceptance very soon! 😉

YEAAAAH, I’m so glaaaaddd:D 😃 😃 😃

The community I mostly cherish let me in!!!
A fortnight ago, I went in the cloister! The nuns let me work in the chocolate factory a bit. It was just for two hours, twice. But I feel like in heaven because I had been asking for two years!!

I wept after that, I thanked God so much… I can’t express the joy I have within my soul. They trust me, they let me in after such a long struggle… :getholy:

Of course, I wouldn’t say I’m called there. But I want to find out… and it’s a step helping me. I just feel that I’m still attracted after a whole year I’ve been thinking about joining this “ageing” community.

Besides, I will spend Christmas there! 'cause I feel like at home! 😛 :heaven:

O thank God! I was just thinking about how there really are no teens in my area that I know about that are discerning. I was starting to feel a little bit discrouged and then I read your post and it was what I needed to see for sure! Thank you so much and may God bless you in your discernment!

I just joined this group. I am thinking about religious life as a consecrated nun, within a cloister. I am just beginning to look into the Poor Clares, the Carmelites and the Dominicans. I am not yet sure. I read “A Right to Be Merry” and sort of just knew that was for me!

First off, I love your name! When I become a sister, I want to be Sr. Veronica.

Second, welcome to the forums and especially welcome to this thread! We’re glad to have you. What made you decide cloistered life was your path? I haven’t read “A Right to be Merry” so I’m sorry if that question seems redundant.

That’s fine! aren’t you afraid of remaining for ever to the same place?

How would you chose your order? Which criteria do you have?

Did you ever see the Benedictines (or Cistercians, Trappists…)
What about the Carthusian nuns?

There are so few people yearning for contemplative orders. I’m glad that you’re here. 😉

No Carthusian nuns in the US, but there are in Europe, about 75 worldwide. In time, they may outnumber the men!

One Cistercian monastery for women, thriving, a number of habited Benedictines and several Trappistines.

Phatmass has a number of women discerning religious life, especially contemplative life. Various posters are experts on the women’s orders.

Then try and find orders that do that kind of thing and or have that kind of prayer life. After you get it narrowed down a little bit then the most important things to do are PRAY and talk to other people.

I’m really having difficulty finding a congregation. When I tried
looking on the net I always find their apostolate not fitting for me.
It’s like becoming an efficient speaker when you were born to be
an audience. Perhaps, a monastic life’s better for me. Just to narrow it down. I’ve read books about diaries of saints, like that of St. Faustina and St. Therese of Lisieux. I’m attracted to both, looking at my capacity I’d rather pick Carmel and there are Carmelite monasteries here in our country except for the other one. Although I have much time surfing the net but somehow doesn’t help much as I can’t visit them. Another is, it takes every inch of my courage to face and talk to them as I have never done this thing my entire life. Perhaps when I’m done with my obligation I’ll be able to visit, just the carmel. I’m compelled
to forget the other one. 😦 Is it okay to think this way?
