t’s about the percentages. It’s about the money!
The women have outperformed the men time and again, yet they get paid way less than the men.
Those who perform, should get paid.
Those who do not, should not.
Very simple principle.
No they haven’t. Men’s and Women’s soccer are not apples to apples comparisons. While the women have performed admirably against their competition, that does not mean that they are playing competitors of equal skill compared to what the Men’s leagues see. This is akin to saying that because the Calgary Stampeders won the Grey Cup for the Canadian Football League, they should be paid on an equal basis with the New England Patriots. The levels of competition are no where near equal and the Canadian league draws far less revenue as a result, hence they should not be paid on an equal level with NFL players. If the women’s team wants to be paid equally to the men’s team, they are welcome to try out for the US Men’s Soccer Team and compete on the same playing field. Considering they were beaten by a men’s youth team two years ago, I doubt they will take up this offer.
LOL – true.

Let’s see the US Women’s World Cup champion team play against the Men’s World cup current Champion and see how they do.

If they really want equal pay - then they should challenge the reigning Men’s World Cup championship team to a game to see who really is the world’s best.
That isn’t what it means at all. The women competing against the men would be unfair.

It means the two leagues are not on the same level of competitiveness. Not even remotely. To put this into context: the Thai team that the USA trounced 13-0 work as insurance sales agents to support themselves.

So saying the US women’s team performs better because they win more is completely ridiculous.

How are firefighters paid where you are? They’re paid pretty handsomely in Ontario.

You may think that and I would actually agree, but there are a heck of a lot of fans buying tickets and merchandise who appparently don’t think so.

They would quit and be replaced by mediocre players willing to play for that amount, at which point interest would completely collapse, the league would be bankrupt, and there might be a couple riots…

In a different league. What you advocate is communism. You have assumed the idea that all profits made by a business should be confiscated and distributed ‘equitably’. That is shown by the fact that you compare the salaries of players in two different leagues that have very different profit numbers. So how should their pay be made equal? If the women’s World Cup made 120 million and the men made 6 billion how should things be made equal? Should the men’s league be forced to share with the women?

Frankly if we want equality then the women’s league should be abolished and they should compete with the men. Those who make the team will be paid a comparable salary.

The majority of teams in the NFL, NBA, an MLB lose, yet they share in the revenues made by their league.
It doesn’t take a Ph.D. in Statistics (which I do happen to have!) to see the error there.

It is mathematically necessary that half of the teams win, and half lose (less an equal fraction from each in games that tie).

I believe that I read that the US national women’s team has generated slightly more revenue over the last three years than the men. If that is the case, they have an argument for a higher salary.

Also, their pay structure, from their collective bargaining agreement, is different than the men’s; the men have to make the roster to get paid, and even then are paid largely for performance, while the women negotiated a salary.

Yes, I know. They are on a lower level which is why I don’t think they have a valid argument for equal pay.

Sure, USA Soccer can pay the men and women something similar (which is why USA Soccer pays the women a $100,000 salary when they don’t do that for the men), but the world is not going to care about Women’s soccer as along as they are not the top level of play for the sport. Sports fans don’t care about the gender. We just want to see the best people in the world play

More money should go to the men, because they need more coaching and work to elevate their performance on the field. Perhaps in another 15 or 20 years, they may be somewhat respectable.
The women are there now!

I would love to see the women play the men. That might actually be a challenge for our women.

The men’s game won’t improve until the best athletes in America start picking soccer

Which won’t happen, because it is a rich kids sport in this country.

I don’t know.

All sports are all becoming that way. Little League is expensive now a days.

Local soccer leagues in rural and in the suburbs are popping up all over because soccer fields only need cut grass and portable nets.

Many other sports require infrastructure

Yes, baseball is the same. That’s why the only minority players are from Latin America. Basketball is not that way. Neither is football.

Not a lot. And even ones elsewhere are still not paid enough as opposed to sports figures.

No, people are not looking at it that way. They are not comparing as I have, they are just paying to see sports. They don’t seem to care about the cost.

I thought we had resolved this with the new CBI two years ago, but I can’t comment otherwise because its contents were never revealed. That said, the women’s team gets several benefits the men’s team doesn’t: a base salary with disability protection, club salary subsidy, and health insurance.

The World Cup isn’t their only source of revenue. They get ticket sales from friendlies and qualifiers (and going forward, the Nations League). They also get prize money from the Gold Cup and any other tournaments they’re invited to, on top of sponsorship and merchandise revenue.
