Timothy Gordon Fired

Honestly you would think his comments on Islam with Dr. Marshall would be enough to get anyone fired.

I’ve read some anecdotal comments leading me to believe this really was the straw that broke the camel’s back for Gordon, some of which referenced his disparaging remarks in the classroom about other religions. I have no verifiable evidence to share but it wouldn’t at all surprise me given what he said about Islam on TnT…

Now, I’m not arguing that they didn’t have a right to fire him. But I wonder what they would do if a teacher was promoting same sex marriage or women priests in the classroom?
Probably nothing? That’s California, as you said you don’t go against “California values”.

Marshall deleted the original video (classy) but you can see his self-identified “best of” moments here:

Note that Gordon again invokes a movie reference, and in doing so this time he compares Muslims with bugs…

Later I can try to find another video in which he said that he tried to get his department to do away with teaching world religions – gotta go make dinner now.

Thank you for the link.

It’s only highlights, but what in there does anybody disagree with because I didn’t see a problem with that video.

He is discussing Muslims and then quotes Tombstone: “There ain’t no live and let live with bugs.” That’s both disgusting and anti-Catholic.

While they were speaking of 300 Catholics being murdered in Sri Lanka?

Attacks against Catholics by Muslims was running rampant - I assume that it still is but the media is busy reporting on Covid19 and riots now.

I don’t believe that being Catholic means we sit back & don’t speak up.

I’ve heard Tim Staples use some very strong language when talking about Muslims committing violent acts. I have no problem with Tim Staples nor with Tim Gordon.

We aren’t called to be pacifists.

Yeah, like Grace points out below (or will it be above once I post?), not sure how one can interpret that as anything other than comparing at least Muslims with certain beliefs to bugs. Intemperate, imprudent, immoderate, and I would think more than enough to get one let go from a school.

That being said, that there are some adherents of a version of Islam that would like to establish a society with the beliefs/practices laid out by Dr. Marshall, should not be controversial, but to me it is the lack of any qualification and the sort of cavalier response that is the problem.

You’ve created both a false dichotomy and a strawman. No one is claiming that Catholics must be pacifists. But the CHURCH requires us to speak of and with Muslims with charity. Comparing them to insects is dehumanizing and frightening.

And one probably should not be surprised if that is contrary to an employment contract’s conduct clause. Put another way, he can use whatever strong language he wants, but he has to expect the consequence.

They were very obviously discussing a particular act - the act being the killing of 300 Catholics.

Does the Church require us to speak charitably about the act of killing 300 Catholics?

We may condemn the action. We may not condemn an entire faith’s population.

I took it as he was condemning the action and speaking of the people who carried out the action. Hence I have no issue with it.

So this is the “My Problems With Tim Gordon” thread masked as “Unbiased Report of Catholic School Teacher’s Dismissal”?

I struggle to see the productive nature of this discussion. Adults can either like Tim Gordon’s brand and message or not. What concern you have with it and how charitable or uncharitable the man is just is beyond me. The guy is likely in enough pain without needing these soft “I told you so” references waxing all theological about his lack of charity on the CA Forums.

Your post seems to chastise others for a lack of charity while providing a lack of charity. It’s a bit confusing.

What’s the harm in just leaving the guy alone? The avoidance of legitimate criticism by calling others uncharitable for criticising you is a tired game. I can happily answer to Our Lord for my comment. Maybe it was a bit brash, but I’ll let the two of us sort it out. Take some time reflecting on the gossip storm you’ve initiated.
