It’s like nailing Jello to a wall…
Oh yeah, in response to this:
First off, he has totally ignored my question, which is “Why do you use the Bible as a middle man, rather than going straight to Jesus.” This and similar questions have just bounced off. Second, I’m insulted by the insinuation that we’re like the “religious Jews” who couldn’t grasp who Jesus was. Can you read the states of our souls? Do you know what’s in our hearts?
I do not want to insult you. I’m sorry you were offended. Like you, I can only go by the words I read and it looks like you (plural)were not understanding where he was coming from. The bible* is *
the Word of God as is Jesus. I know you know that so don’t be offended but I needed you to see I know where you are coming from. I don’t know what’s in your heart other than what you show by your words (posts). Talking faith is never fluffy stuff as you well know. Peace and open heartedness from me, Al-
I thank you for your graciousness and I accept your apology. I further apologize for the harsh tone of my posts.
Having said that, you need to distinguish between God the Word (Jesus) and the (written) Word of God. From what your post is saying (and I’m going on that–I don’t claim to know anyone’s heart) the Bible is Jesus. You have to distinguish between the Word of God and the Word of God–the term has dual meanings. In one use, it refers to the Word Made Flesh–the Messiah, Jesus Christ. In another sense, it means the written words of Holy Scripture. The Bible is not Jesus. This is not to say that Scripture is not of God, just that Scripture is not God.
