To The Jews: Suppose You Found Out Christ Truly Exists...

This is actually a fairly simple matter which involves a bit of historical honesty and textual analysis.

If we say that Jesus was not a real person, then we are doing bad scholarship from a historical standpoint. A number of sources attest to his very existence, as well as some particulars about his life. I should add that we have non-Christian writers and historians attesting to Jesus’ existence (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_and_history)). Thus, the fact that Jesus even existed is historically verified.

Next, we look to what is said of him. The Gospels themselves, written in the first century, attest to his life and miracles, his dying and resurrection, and his teachings.

Now comes the real deal-maker. Either Jesus was who he said he was, which, we gather from the text–was God the Son (see catholic.com/library/Divinity_of_Christ.asp and associated articles), or he was a very bad man–no merely good man could have done the things he did or said the things he did (the good things) while falsely claiming to be God, or he was a flat-out nutcase–however, he is too clear, too sane, too consistent in his way of doing things to be a nutcase.

The one possible objection to all of this is that what if those writing the accounts of the life of Christ, of his miracles, of his life, what if they were lying? The answer to this is that if they were lying, what did they have to gain? They got nothing but persecution, torture, death at the hands of lions and executors. If the Apostles and Disciples in the early Church were lying, then they were committing the greatest folly ever in doing so because of the price that they paid. Furthermore, the staying power of this so-called lie also attests to its truth. A merely human invention, a merely human lie, an evil opposed to truth, would not have spread throughout the world as it did, would not still be a force in the world, would not have ended up reaching to the ends of the earth. Someone somewhere would have noticed that it was inconsistent, someone somewhere would have out it, and the whole deal would be blown.

So you see, it works too well. Jesus has to be God, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. World without end.

Never mind, its circular reasoning again. You’ll never understand what I’m saying. 🤷
I think I understand - for you it’s important to keep Torah as Moses gave it to you, naturally, and because of Deuteronomy you don’t accept that any Jew could ever validly do other, not even a Jew who converted to Christianity.

From our point of view we have a greater than Moses, a ‘Lord of the Sabbath’, God incarnate, who in Himself fulfilled the Law of Moses and did away with the REASON for a lot of it by His own sacrificial death and eternal priesthood - and who in any event had more than enough authority to teach us a new way. And who did. 🤷

What is a ‘prayer warror’?
Perhaps a member of the Rosary Army! Which reminds me of Stalin’s ironic quote “‘How many divisions does the Pope have?’” when warned by an official of the Vatican’s “power”. Totalitarian regimes have all but vanished, but the Church is still here. 👍

It seems like this conversation has been going on for eons.

My last word on it is that God in His wisdom allows for the world to exist with Christians and Jews (and all other denominations)

Who am I to question this Wisdom-

I appreciate reading a thoughtful dialog between persons of different religions but that is not what is being written here by some of us.

Our same God is loving and merciful.

Jewish people are precious in God’s sight.

To those He has given much, much more is expected of them.

Now I am going to pick up my toys and play in another sandbox.

I’m specificly referring to the title that some posters here have. (i.e. Prayer warrier; Forum Supporter…)

It is someone who posts on the prayer requests threads to respond to people who need prayers.

In other words, we pray for those who ask and those who don’t

But you are ignoring the fact that 2 billion or whatever the number is are christians. So I guess it really isn’t a nonsensical notion.
1.12 Billion Catholics and 480 Million Protestants.

To a Jew who truly understands the Jewish faith, that would be pure avodah zarah to believe in it.

Have a nice day!

The only reason I even offered my criticisms of some of the Catholic practices was because several Catholics kept trying to missionize me for their religion, and used some of those oddities as examples of why I should convert. I was telling them why those oddities had no effect on me.

Jews do not try to convert Christians to Judaism, so you would have no reason to offer your criticisms of our oddities, now would you?
Ah…I beg to differ, when I married a Jew, he wanted me to convert otherwise, he wouldn’t marry me. Since I set the record straight and we talked it out, it was ok…Would you PLEASE stop saying in every other line how much Catholics want you to convert…geez…it gets old after a while. Every other line is “Well I wouldn’t do this or that if Catholics didn’t want me to convert”…as if it is an excuse for doing what your doing.

As one of the posters who has made the MOST comments to me, insisting I “believe in Jesus”, I find this most recent post laughable!

Anyone can look back on all your posts and see how many threads you have started, asking why Jews won’t convert, why Jews won’t believe in Jesus, why Jews should do this or that.

Goodness, this very thread was simply your latest attempt at that!

Thanks. Another one of life’s mysteries solved for me. 🙂

For those of us who don’t know or remember the meaning of the hebrew words you use, cold you put its equivalent in English, please? Thanks!
Shalom!

Still, you might have simply ignored this one… and that would have been it!

The point I was trying to make is that Christianity as a whole, ultimately decided that none of them were bound to keep Torah.

By Torah and Jewish standards, this amounts to following a new religious path, which therefore places it under deut. 13 for Jews.

Keeping Torah=Judaism

Not keeping Torah=another religion
Ah, so it does not matter that the early Jewish Christians were banned from Jewish synogogs and worship services? How could they keep all the Torah when some of it was banned?

You are absolutely wrong…again… I have NEVER started a thread stating that Jews SHOULD BELIEVE in Jesus. I’ve asked WHY they don’t believe. I am NOT HERE to convert anyone, but you are here to bash my Catholic faith any which way you can. Take a clue from everyone who seems to be trying to tell you something…You are the one who is trying to cram Judaism down everyone’s throats…

Actually, I’m going to take the advice of another CAF member and place “Cathdefender” on ignore, just as I once had to do with “righteousone”…responding to her posts is taking up way too much of my time, and its a waste anyway since her questions are never sincere, and just designed for argumentation.
