To the women here--have you ever done something drastic w/your hair?

You can see by my profile pic I had shoulder length hair with blonde highlights (about 1998-2005). That was a doo I generally updated about one time a year. It would grow out to mid back length, then I’d chop it off and donate to locks of love if there was enough growth (usually there was).

Shortly after that pic was taken I quit cutting all the length off. I met my then DH and he asked me to quit cutting it. I don’t mind, I’ve always had longish to very long hair, and quite like having the long stuff if it’s cut with a bit of a style and if the ends are kept up.

(I just don’t like seeing women who don’t cut their hair, but leave the ends to get gross).

So here’s what’s accumulated in the last two years. I like it, and probably won’t ever change it. I can put it up in braids, buns, french knots, curl it, leave it straight whatever… It’s versatile enough for me 🙂

I like your pic in your profile, shiann. I had one there a while back, maybe I should post it back to give people an idea of what my hair looks like.😊 The pic is a few years old, but I still have the same hairstyle.:blushing:

I’ve been thinking about going back to chin length, but after seeing the Reese Witherspoon photo of the long straight hair with bangs, I think that will be a great interim cut for me!! 👍

Oh yes me too! My hair is down to mid back (it gets stuck in my bra when I hook the back :rolleyes: ) too! Very dark brown, but redish hues in the sunlight. some long long long layers as they’ve grown over the year. I too saw that Reese Withersppon pic and emailed it to my friend. I like that look and I was thinking bangs too but my forehead is teeny weeny so bangs would just be in my eyes…not sure if I like that or not. Hmmm…
 
For a long time, I never wanted to cut my hair (the longer it is the thinner it makes my chubby cheeks appear!) but a couple years ago, I decided what the heck. Go for it and cut it all off, so I asked for a shaggy bob hair cut, which I’ve gotten nothing but compliments for. I was really scared to actually do it, though, because my hair was nearly down to my bottom!
 
My wife got the Halle Berry haircut (what she wore in the early 90s, almost shaved in the back). It fits her perfectly. The other short hairstyle I loved on women was the Dorothy Hamill haircut from the late 70s-early 80s. For some reason, it’s never made a comeback.

Then again, nobody will really want my advice. I’ve had a shaved head for almost four years. Hey, I have no bad hair days and my head always looks neat.

PenguinsFan - I use that moniker on another MB. Are you a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, too?

This is the one I have, it’s the same as the Katie Holmes cut mentioned before, 'cept no bangs. Bangs are a nuisance in my opinion. My hair has a funky kind of wave in it though, so if I don’t blow dry it straight, it does not look like this.
 
I think the picture you posted is a GREAT look–very sophisticated if you keep it tidy.

I’ve had very SHORT hair for a long time and realized my short hair and thin, bony face made me look like a Death’s Head. I’m growing it out–it’s a little past chin length now–and it looks much better.

If I didn’t color it, it would be all grey and I refuse to let myself look old before I have to.

Halle Berry haircut–I’m trying to picture this, she has had a lot. She had a very pretty pixie look for a while.

Regarding PF – Yes --he is a HUGE Pgh Penguins fan!!! He is watching the game as I type.😃 Do you like the Steelers, too? If so, you may have a friend on here for life.😉 :o

The señora’s hair now looks a lot like what Halle Berry looked like about 1990. She hasn’t worn it that way for a long time.

Yes, I’m a Steeler fan, and a Pitt fan (they beat Georgetown tonight). 100% yunzer. I see Steelers owner Dan Rooney at Daily Mass during football season. Big win for the Pens tonight.

I did the eggplant hue in the late-90’s when my employer forced a new dress code on us. It was my little way of maintaining my individuality and protesting the new dress code. 😃 My natural coloring is on the pale side, so I had to wear quite a bit of makeup to balance the tint, but when I did, it looked great! But now I’m my natural color, light ash brown going gray.

One time back in the '70’s, I henna’ed my hair, and it turned orange like Bozo the Clown’s hair. :eek: That was NOT on purpose!

I wore my hair quite short for years, but then I let it grow. Last summer was so beastly hot that I chopped it off again, and I hated it the minute I left the salon! Now it’s getting long-ish again and I like it much better. I guess it’s all about what you are comfortable with (and what your spouse will tolerate).

All I can say is that I’m so thankful every day that my wife wears her hair super long, mostly for me. I know, women just do not understand it! But it makes my eyes POP! LOL 👍

Yeah, my husband likes long hair too. However, he doesn’t have to take care of it on a daily basis. If I had non-oily hair that I didn’t need to wash (and dry) every day, I’d consider growing it longer. We compromise; I don’t cut it shorter than chin-length and he doesn’t complain that it’s not halfway down my back. 😃
 
I was just thinking of making a thread like this. I just cut off my long hair. I like it, and the reaction has been great.
