So when you finally run the questioning down to the end of the line, the modesty relativists on this thread can see saintly people on this Earth running around naked in public places if considered socially acceptable without even a fig leaf for the modern Adam & Eve to hide their shame. That is the extrapolation of the fashion trend, is it not? Nothing immodest about it, right? We must be coming into end times, because we’ve come full circle with the Adam & Eve fashion statement.
Obviously you are someone who cares more about icons and images than what lies beneath them.

Oh yes, and I just love how you associate something that God saw that was good during the creation with the age of moral depravity such as the end-times. Really, your materialist understanding of physical appearances is enlightening.

I’m sure everyone here knows of Joan of Arc’s popularity both inside and outside Catholic circles. With that in mind, here are some secular images of the saint were she to have existed in a fantasy-themed realm.

I just think that those outfits are rather ugly, not much better than the swimsuits that women wore in the '20’s. One of them reminds me of a nurse’s smock (Oh, the horror! I really wish that nurses still wore those cute little outfits).

Well, they don’t stare at you and make you feel naked. Or make perverted remarks to you. Or do things in private while thinking about you. There are bullies in the world but there are far more men that are just oversexed because of the world we live in. And women add to it by how they act and dress, myself included.
Perhaps we should be coming down harder on these men for having black, impure hearts, rather than focusing our attention on getting women to conform to their perversions and inappropriate behaviors.

I would never blame MYSELF, or ANY woman victim for being treated like that. To believe it is our fault is to believe an old sexist lie.

It’s funny. My sister’s boyfriend hangs around guys like that and he’s terrified of his own mother because of how strong she is. :\
When my youngest boy was in 5th grade, the janitor at his school was harassing him. My son told him that if he didn’t stop, his mom would beat him up. LOL! He was a little embarrassed when he made the football team and some of the seniors asked him how much his mother benched 🙂

Oh, Debbie, I heard that the g-string bikini is rather common in certain parts of Latin America but that full nudity is practically taboo there. I am curious as to your take on the g-string.

It seems like the more conservative men are being judged.
You must not have been here when one of these conservative “modesty” men outright said that women who don’t dress to his (very strict) standards of modesty are “TRASH.”

No joke.

It was several pages back.

I’ve personally suffered from really nasty blows from women myself. Honestly, I really think that once women started showing men how they can just as easily inflict pain, it would lead to a lot more caution about how one sees them.
Oh boy! I can picture a rough and bossy Fillipino woman right now.
Oh no, that’s my mother. 😛
The mother of my sister’s boyfriend is Colombian I think… but yeah, he says she’s just as scary. 😛

Indeed, they made me feel worthless and nobody gave two cents about me which is still just as bad. I’m just saying that just because there’s more of one type of bad guy doesn’t make the things that make them awful any more worse.
I guess sometimes it is hard to be in someone else’s shoes. I didn’t mean to not say that your pain was not as important or as bad. Lots of jerks in the world.

I do hang out with muscular guys but I have never seen them be bullies. Now in high school that was a whole different story. Some men are vicious and have made certain young men’s lifes hell. My youngest boy was bullied. He is now on the football team and over 6 ft tall. He sticks up for other kids being bullied. I am very proud of him.

You are right that there are many types of bad men. But there are good men that treat women like sexual objects because they are desensitized by our sexual society which includes the tiny little outfits that women wear.

No, G strings are not common in Brazil at all. In fact, I don’t even recall ever seeing one.

Don’t get me wrong, the bathing suits there are a lot smaller than the ones here in America, and speedos are usually the norm for guys there, while here guys wear swim trunks.

Nudity there is illegal at the beaches, as it is here in the US. There might be a couple nude beaches in Brazil, but they are certainly not popular and I don’t even know where they are or anything.

Wow, that’s horrible, and we shouldn’t downplay how horrible that is. I definitely wouldn’t call them “good men.”

A good man treats a woman with respect and dignity regardless of what she looks like or what she is wearing.

Okay. Thank you for explaining this.

And he was very wrong when he said that. I did agree with some of his post but felt he crossed a line with the trash remark. Many women dress like they do because of what they see on tv or what their friends or mom wears. They are not trash and most are very sweet, good women.

I have had to fight but I prefer to just be left alone.

I wear what I wear bc I feel it is the best way of expressing who I am as a person.

I think that’s the main reason why people wear what they do.

I guess I don’t know a lot of good men except for my conservative Catholic friends. The guys on this website would have a better idea about the percentage of men that view women sexually. I would guess 85%. Just my opinion and my experience.

Agree.

Honestly, sometimes I feel as though a man who urges women to cover up so much all the times views them more sexually than a man who doesn’t think there is anything scandalous about wearing a bikini to the beach.

Yes 😦

And this is why it personally offends me as a women to see the way some of the men here talk about us.

You mentioned that you feel comfortable in bikini and mini skirts because everyone wears them. Would you be wearing a bikini if you lived in the 50s? You would be expressing yourself within what is accepted by society.

I really do not have a dog in this race. I am working on being a better person. To me, that does not just include my actions but how I dress. This is me and not what I expect every woman to do. A woman in a bikini or miniskirt does not arouse me so it is not an issue for me. But if I am wearing a skimpy outfit in the gym, more men flirt with me and that can be a temptation for me. Most of the time, it is just annoying but sometimes it leads me to sin.

What I wanted to add to the thread is that we do live in an oversexed society and your clothes can lead to men have sexual fantasies about you. If you don’t have a problem with that than either do I.

I just want to make it clear that I do not think that dressing immodestly makes you a whore. Or that a person who dresses modestly is a better Catholic.
