Mass, I enjoy both, SSPX is wrong, JP11 is THE POPE, read the Vatican 11 documents, what has happened in the church is not in them (in many ways) our church has been taken over by liberals, because they were/are active, most Catholics are apathetic, lazy, want to be fed, are ignorant of their faith and or are only “cultural” Catholics who if they go to church regularly only go out of habit. I am a convert.
I don’t believe that most Catholics are lazy or apathetic. I think they want to be *led. *Priests need to lead like the Apostles did, not just delegate everything to those that have the time to do it. All too often, these people who have things delegated to them are the liberals. The conservatives have a gaggle of children to raise and educate. They don’t have the kind of time necessary to be heavily involved. The liberals love the “Priest shortage” because it presents them with all kinds of opportunities.

Very True.

When people bring up the “shortage of vocations to the priesthood” I like to point out to them that there is no such thing. God has not stopped calling men to the priesthood. Men have just stopped responding to that call. They are not choosing to follow their vocations.

The great thing is that it is the conservatives and the traditionalists who are having all of the children. The liberals are too busy contracepting and so they are a dying breed.

And it is the conservatives and the traditionalists who are responding to their vocations to the priesthood. It seems nowadays that the liberals are much more content to “play priest” as a “Eucharistic Minister” without actually having to go through seminary. And as the conservatives and the traditionalists are being ordained priests, and eventually bishops the liberals will find that they have no way to push their agendas anymore. The priests and bishops who allowed it will be gone - replaced by the new crop of faithful and obedient priests.

In many places it seems people are seeing the beginnings of this. It has taken about 40 yrs - the same amount of time Israel spent wandering in the wilderness. Isn’t God great!

theodorro,

Since you know the problems in the USA then you can understand why many of us think the lack of attention the Pope has given to correct the situation is why we feel he is not a good Pope.

God Bless!
I think your statement may be a little misleading and would suggest you change the word “many” to “some”

deogratias

I think “Many” is an understatement.

Let’s look at the facts:

I find it very disturbing that Pope John Paul II is not imposing just discipline on renegade Bishops like Cardinal Law. Instead he rewards them as head of the Archbasilica of St. Mary Major!

Must we forget the issue is the raping of children!

FYI, I was also a victim and I have EVERY right to criticize this Pope! Yet, some how I manage to stay a Catholic. How about you become a victim and see if you don’t become critical!

Why does this Pope appoint Bishops who embezzle church monies to pay off illicit lovers? If he did not “know” why does he not remove them? It took how many years to get rid of Bishop Ryan?

It is my humble opinion that this pope has been a culpably “absent father.”

Now back to the “many” debate. Should we count the millions of people who left the Church? If not then we can we count the millions of Traditional Catholics? What about the thousands of members of “Voice of the Faithful?” How about thousands of disobedient religious?

I think it would be best if you just drop this issue!

I would love to see a return to the beatiful, reverent, but vernacular 1965 missal, instead of the terrible abomination that is the 1970 missal. The true fruit of Vatican II is visible in the 1965 missal - what we see today in the highly irreverent masses in American churches is a terrible thing, brought about by liberals running away with the church.

Byzantine,

I can’t disagree with the validity of any of your points. Certainly the Pope has caused confusion with many things. I cannot understand the Assisi gatherings personally, or kissing the Qur’an. I think thousands of Catholic martyrs would have gone to their deaths rather than kiss that blasphemous book.

I just don’t like it on a gut level though. I used to be more critical of the Pope, but I try to avoid it now. God will judge the Pope. I just want to be a faithful Catholic and do my best to uphold Tradition in my life.

There is no defending the Bishops who shuffled these sodomites around. We know what Jesus said about those who cause scandal with children, “It would be better for them to have a great millstone hung about their necks and cast into the sea…” You have a right to speak out about it.

I do hope that we pray for the Holy Father though. I wouldn’t want to deal with the things that he must handle.
God bless,
Ryan

Let’s not refer to the 1970 Missal as an abomination. Even though it may be inferior to the Traditional Mass, it is a validly promulgated rite of the Catholic Church.

I had a hard time answering the poll b/c “Traditionalism” doesn’t exactly have the same definition for everyone.
So I ended up putting, “No, but…” as my answer.
I did too, so I didn’t answer. Anyone want to try to answer for these people?

I’m not even sure they’re Catholic. Their orders are probably Thuc/invalid

Vatican II was a mistake and we are feeling the effects of it today.

The Novus Ordo is the biggest mistake of them all. As a result, most Catholics now do not believe in the real presence.

Pope John Paul II is the Pope and He can speak infalliably if He wants. However, I think He is one of the worst Pope’s the Church has every had.

My two cents…
Amen! And the only thing the Pope ever said infallibly is that women can’t be Priests.

I love the Holy Father and think we are indeed a privileged generation to be under his pontificate. I enjoy the current order of the Mass in the venacular, yet am pleased that the Church offers variety for those who do not. May God bless you for your faithfulness.

When, however, anyone states that the Holy Father is “the worst pope the church as ever had,” they show a lack of historical perspective and their “two cents” is over inflated.

As I said before, I think we should withold our judgement of the Supreme Pontiff. I don’t defend kissing the Qur’an, the Assisi gatherings, promoting Cardinal Law etc… but I want us all to love the Holy Father and pray for him. If we can love the man despite his failings, then we will know true charity.

You have to add to this, all the people he has canonised

I don’t defend kissing the Qur’an
If you went to Saudi Arabia for instance, and they gave you a jar of olives, the proper thing to do in acceptance of a gift is not to say “thank you” as we do here but to “kiss the gift” and that is what happened with the Koran.

The Pope should of taken the Koran. Spit on it and ripped it apart. This is my opinion.

The english vernacular stinks, they did not even translated it correctly.

Where do I stand on “traditionalism”? I always had many problems with the Novus Ordo, since my conversion two years ago. For example, I could not understand why we had to stand for communion, when Catholics had always knelt in the Roman rite. Kneeling was so much better. The more I learned about the changes, the more anxious and irritated I became about them. One day I decided to take a second look at the SSPX, and after spending about three months reading and praying, I found that the typical charges against them seemed not to hold much water. I don’t consider that they have been excommunicated, and I don’t believe they are schismatic. They have wonderful fruit, in so many ways, and I never ever feel that faith, worship, or truth/reality are being compromised when I am at a Mass said by an SSPX priest.

So many things people say about traditional worship are odd. A good example is that the traditional Mass is too passive. I think this is not a good understanding of the traditional Mass, because I don’t find I am passive at all. I am busy worshiping. I am not bobbing up and down, but rather am able to pray better. So many saints had great reverence for the traditional Mass, and so many people had serious criticisms of the new Mass when it came out, and still do have serious criticisms of it.

I love the traditional Latin Mass. I want to worship as Catholics have always worshiped. I want to be Catholic, and to participate in Catholic prayer. I want to ask God that my prayers be heard, and not just assume that the sacrifice is okay. I want to pray that I can avoid Hell, not just assume that everything is okay. I want to pray for the intercession of the saints, not just put the saints aside like yesterday’s superstition. All of these things are abundant and central in the traditional worship, and are minimized in the Novus Ordo worship.

People disagree about these things, but I know in my heart that the traditional Latin Mass helps me lift my heart to God more fully. And, I find that the arguments against the SSPX are simplistic. I don’t like the indult Mass because the hierarchy is adding modernist trends to it, like communion standing, communion in the hand, the modern calender, and other things that are just not a help to me lifting my heart to God.
