What is more charitable than to give people the opportunity to admit their sins, repent and be redeemed?
Just because some go with every secular wind that blows doesn’t mean the rest of us are not Christians.
I never said you weren’t Christians. I said that you are not the only people in this thread claiming to be Christians and that there are others who behave very differently.
I’m not yelling. I haven’t seen anyone yelling. Why so judgmental?
It’s a figure of speech.
But we are the majority because we understand what the Gospel message really is, a chance to submit our will to God’s will and be forgiven after we repent from our sin.
Views and behaviour aren’t the same thing. You can have the right views and the wrong behaviour. Or you can have the wrong views and the right behaviour.
FYI I agree with you on the gospel message. That doesn’t mean I have to agree with everything you do or say.
Wow. Just wow is almost all I can say to this. We aren’t worth it, but unrepentant sinners are?
Wow. Where is your love for fellow Christians who are also trudging along that same difficult straight and narrow way?
You believe you are worth someone losing their faith over? That’s very arrogant.
I’m not worth that. If someone says that I am behaving in a way that is a danger to their faith I have two reactions. Firstly, to consider how I am behaving. Perhaps they are right and I am not behaving in a Christian manner. I’m human and unfortunately I don’t always behave in a Christian manner. Part of this is determining if their problem is what I am saying or how I am saying it.
The second is to tell them that I’m not worth them losing their faith. That I am sorry that I have had that effect but that in future they need to divorce their view of Christainity from their view of me. A persons faith is too precious for me to get caught up in my ego.
This is very much in line with what estesbob said. He thinks he’s right, but he acknowledged that him having the opportunity to be right isn’t as important as Jessica’s faith and perhaps she shouldn’t engage in this discussion with him.
Yes, it is easy to say you are a Christian on the internet, or a Catholic, or a Muslim or just about anything else. But the loyalty you show, the depth of the moral values system that you reflect and how precious it is to you; those say something that cant be faked.
What you are missing is that when people complain about lack of charity they aren’t necessarily upset with your view on the topic. It’s also about how you say your view and how you treat people who disagree with you. You can be saying all the right things and still lack charity.
Jessica gave two specifric examples for why she felt their was a lack of charity. In neither of those posts was an argument (or even a statement) made about the posters view of what’s happened. She gave examples where she felt a poster was treated uncharitably.
Responding to someones statement they are leaving the thread because they are sick of the topic (a very valid reason to do so) with “Your concession is accepted” as though simply been willing to carry on the conversation for longer means you won… that’s not Christian behaviour. It’s childish behaviour. I don’t know any mature person who responds in that way. As is your comment that you must be speaking the TRUTH because she bowed out. Again because lasting the longest means you are right.
Admittedly she did expand upon that, but again her problem wasn’t with peoples views. It was with the fact that people refused to have a genuine discussion about it and some used ad hoc attacks or slurs to avoid doing so. Others simply kept posting the same information which had already been showin
in this thread to be wrong.
I’m sick to death of people on this board claiming that they’re hated for their views. I call bull on that. You can disagree with transgenderism, gay marriage, everything the left does all you like. Some will hate you for it, but most won’t. So long as you do it with charity and without attacking those who disagree with you. (plural you).
Way to go ‘CatholicSheila’ to demonstrate the love of Christ for your fellow brothers and sisters of the faith. I feel so edified.
Perhaps it wasn’t charitable of me to say that. No issue with what I said, but that wasn’t the best wording. I was more concerned with addressing Jessica Cunara than with the fact that you also would read it. I apologise.
I do believe that you are wrong person for her to focus on. Regardless of whether or not you are right, even regardless of whether or not you behave in a Christian manner. If you are harming her faith, she should put you on ignore or learn to gloss over your posts. You aren’t worth it. None of us are.
I’m sure you would claim that she shouldn’t do so, because it would do her good to read what you consider “truth”. I follow church teaching - the only reason I converted to the faith was because I believe the Church has the authority to teaching. Yet I have to gloss over your posts because I do find how you express yourself very difficult. In the past, it has been a danger to my faith as it caused me to focus on what I saw as unchristian behaviour of others rather than focusing on my walk with God. Which is never a good thing. If I didn’t focus on others who I find more edifying (some of whom agree with you but express themselves differently, some who don’t agree with you) then it would be a danger to my faith.
And whilst you won’t like it, you aren’t worth that.
