Racism is about discrimination.

You provided one great example from his father’s era.

In reading the material, I would agree that it’s noteworthy that minorities are employed and promoted, but not the the very top in his organization.

No, racism is an attitude.

prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one’s own race is superior.

The belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races.

I think Trump merely expresses what so many other people (Democrat, Republican, Independent) think but dare not express openly for fear of being called racist. Trump either has a lot of guts or a lot of stupidity, or both, to openly utter such things. It may also be he has a some kind of personality disorder and just cannot help himself (which I had originally thought) or he just says whatever comes to mind without paying much attention to whether it may offend someone (which itself may or may not be abnormal). I tend to think the latter based on the personal acquaintance of Trump by a very close friend of mine. Trump used to do work in my friend’s law library quite regularly. He was consistently treated with snickers by the lawyers who worked there: “Oh, here comes Donald the Clown.” He was a great kibitzer, cracking jokes and laughing at them, and not reading anything personally or paying attention to the cases (primarily bankruptcies) but giving all the work to his lawyers. He acted like the class clown according to my friend. No one took anything he said seriously, including his own lawyers. That’s all part of his personality. To paraphrase the Cindy Lauper tune: “Boys just want to have fun.” This is not to say we should give him a pass because Trump is just being Trump. He is now the POTUS and must be held to a higher standard. But the idea that he is going to change his personality: forget it.
 
One other point. Although raised in Queens, Trump is a wealthy Manhattanite through and through. Given this, he fits the stereotype of the wealthy New Yorker to a T, that is, he is an opportunist and pragmatist. Therein lies his genius, but not so much as an entrepreneur or a businessman in the traditional sense. As I stated previously, he could easily seize on the opportunity in the reverse direction by being (or playing) the progressive leftist even if against type. This is what some people–mainly those who have real values–fail to understand about Trump and about certain New-York types.

I think that it’s a combination of all these things. They have served him well in real estate, but in Washington they are a liability.

One can have a bad attitude but still get the job done, or not practice discrimination in hiring, etc.

Maybe this is were we fundamentally disagree, on the definition. Using your definition I’d say most people have strong streaks of racism in how they will ‘profile’ some groups with an ‘attitude’ that isn’t fully Politically Correct.

I think what matters is action, or the lack of it. Your reliance on ‘attitude’ is so vague it’s useless.
 
I found a great article showing the hypocrisy of leftists, including McCain and Graham. They don’t mind running down Russia and calling it a ****hole. I guess, following the reasoning, they hate White people. Actually, I think they all do.

Admit enough people who don’t assimilate well and your grandchildren will not recognize the culture you grew up in. Is that what you want?

I barely recognize the California my father grew up in. It irritates me that that state bends over backward to allow the immigrants to keep their languages where my ancestors had no choice but to adapt or perish, hence they became stronger Americans for it.

One is reminded how the CIA and Treasury Dept particularly recruit Mormons. At one time, Fordham was one of their big recruiting grounds. I don’t know if it still is or not.

I agree that someone like that would be racist, although if they never do anything racist, I am not sure why we would care.

Because even if they never did anything overt, it would still color the way they interacted with people, both white and black.

In the context of Trump, if you are constantly accused of being racist, but you think you aren’t, you need to look inside yourself and see if you do, indeed, harbour prejudice against other people, even if you think you aren’t doing overtly racist things.

I think they still do.

Where else are you going to find such a large group of civic minded people who speak a second language, avoid drugs, and have relatively stable family lives.
 
I actually don’t care if my kids grow up in a society that looks like the one I did. That’s immaterial to me. I hope they are safe and happy and I don’t think this is based on any arbitrary and subjective definition of American “culture”.

I don’t even know what “American Culture”, is. Does it means. Is is parades and hot dogs?

The words of Jesus ware clear- welcome the stranger.
