I would hope that suggestibility knows some limits? And campaign promises would have to be close to that limit? Abandon those and you soon get labeled liar and a fraud and you undermine your own support base.

As to high turnover, I’m not an insider who would know all the facts, but one could consider:

• quality people may not wish to work with Trump;
• people taking contrary positions and without the skills to play to him probably get short treatment;
• I don’t think he is smart enough to recognise good advice on its face.

Would the Republican Party be able to offer you alternatives to Trump at the next election, or must they support the incumbent?

I understood it. I know I made reference to Nazi Germany, since I made the reference. I know what Godwin’s Law is. I also know that it is a reasonable example of Catholics sticking their heads in the sand and ignoring racism.

I don’t recall anyone on any thread claiming that Haiti was a paradise. No doubt Haiti has problems. But does that mean that we should not let Haitians come to the US? I work with people from countries worse off than Haiti. They are very fine Americans. We as a country would be worse off if we didn’t have them here.

If we decide they can come here they can walk across the carribean for all I care. I don’t think we should give visas to those who arrive by raft, but if we already approved them, how they get here is their business. I am not a huge fan of chain migration with the exception of wife and kids, then perhaps two other relatives.

I never said anything about stealing land, although as one who believes in property rights, that probably was not our finest hour. The indians probably tolerated too many illegals.

You could make that argument, but a lot of Natives went out of their way to accommodate settlers. Part of the reason is they saw it as a better way of life.

When you take the converse of that, people are much more opposed to the new arrivals.

I’d also point out it was the federal government that caused a lot of the fighting, not so much the fact that settlers were appearing.

Yes, everyone’s Nigerian friend is vitally important to this country. Quick question:

If we steal tens of thousands of “the best” from a country that is already suffering, how does that help the tens of millions left behind?

If there are tens of thousands of “great” people coming from these countries, every year, then jow were those countries bad places in the first place? I’m reminded of Trump’s great phrase:

Well someone is corrupting those countries. Someone is keeping them corrupt. Someone is not fixing the problem. Now maybe we have miraculously gathered all the good ones, but even then we would be inarguably harming the home country by stealing their best and brightest.

In a nation of 300 million, I find it hard to believe that our survival depends getting that one more Nigerian.
