Why then should we allow immigration at all? Should all of us transplants go back to where we came from? Should I go back to Ireland or Germany?

We benefit from skilled labor. The old country benefits from remittances and knowledge transmission.

This is probably one of the most ignorant comments I have ever seen in my life. The parish I attended growing up has a Nigerian pastor. We have a shortage of priests, so he fulfills the job very well. They are blessed to have him. Ignorant people like you would have parishes close down rather than realize that there are highly skilled people available in low income places.

So if there is a shortage of skills, you are arguing that we should just suffer without them rather than allow immigrants. Who cares if some people can’t go to confession because there are no priests, it doesn’t matter if they go to hell. Not your problem. So what if there is a shortage of surgeons, better for people to die than to allow an immigrant who has the skills to perform surgery.

As to high turnover, I’m not an insider who would know all the facts, but one could consider:

quality people may not wish to work with Trump;
people taking contrary positions and without the skills to play to him probably get short treatment;
I don’t think he is smart enough to recognise good advice on its face.

• working in the WH is a once in a lifetime opportunity for experience. I doubt many quality outsiders pass up the chance. I can imagine that many DC beltway insiders would prefer to wait for the next train though.
• you seem to be projecting a lot of negative managerial skills onto him, while the people that have worked for him in the past speak very differently of his style.

In terms of getting the right range of people in front of the president, much of that falls to key aides or the Chief of Staff, who act as filters. I think Gen Kelly is tough but also capable in that area, he’s not a sycophant kissing butt to get ahead. I’m not clear on his other gate keepers.

Some immigrants engage in import-export businesses, transferring the knowledge they learn in the US to the foreign country. Dollars sent overseas always come back in one form or another.
