Lots of people here keep talking about how what Trump said was racism. Can anyone point to the actual words that are racist?

I have been to Haiti… it is a @#@$HOLE.

I once dated 2 sisters, they were both haitian immigrants. They way they talked about their former country, I’m betting they would agree with Trump.

It ids crazy how much race baiting goes on not only in the media but also here at CAF.

It is quite disturbing!

There are places in the US that I would use this same expletive. Does that mean I’m racist also. Two places that come to mind, (I bet most people are thinking of the same citys.) Chicago & Detroit.

Apparently, the ONLY person who heard Trump say those disparaging words was Dick Durbin.

And Durbin has a history of making stuff up.

I believe they were talking about an attitude or disposition as inferred by this and other things that he has said.

But I notice none have referred to the proposed immigration reforms as racist. The reforms are where it matters and a merit based system is not racist, especially when combined with a refugee program.

The cry of racism is manufactured, for effect.

An attitude they uncharitably invent in their own minds. There is no evidence. When asked to present evidence we get crickets or more uncharitable inventions.

In a separate thread I did see a valiant effort:

In 60’s and early 70’s, certain Trump properties did not rent to blacks. This was clearly racism and brought to the courts. I don’t hold it against Trump today because the practice stopped and candidly was a reflection of our society at that time. I’d need to see more recent discrimination to believe these are current beliefs.

One employment case were a black casino dealer was removed from a table at a client’s request. I think this example shows the management catered to the whims of a racist ‘whale’ more than they were racist themselves. They would probably also swap out an older female dealer with a cute young girl when asked. Casinos are never moral thought leaders, which is a separate issue one might hold against Trump, but it’s not really racism by the management.

The Trump businesses hire and promote a significant number of minorities, but his inner circle has been predominantly white male. This may indicate some degree of conscious or unconscious bias at minimum. His white house inner circle also leans to white male people.

Both the renting and the dealer could be catering to customers wants. That still goes on. It even goes on in churches (not that members are ‘customers’).

There are decades of racist actions and words. If you do not believe Trump is racist at this point nothing is going to convince you.

No, no there isn’t. No one can produce any evidence. Jesse Jackson is supposedly an authority in this matter. He didn’t think Trump was a racist. Maybe he does now like many people who decided he was once he ran as a Republican.

You’re probably right. There’s no way Donald “Black guys counting my money! I hate it. The only kind of people I want counting my money are short guys wearing yarmulkes… Those are the only kind of people I want counting my money. Nobody else…Besides that, I tell you something else. I think that’s guy’s lazy. And it’s probably not his fault because laziness is a trait in blacks” Trump could ever be racist. This is all just people getting worked up because they hate Trump.

Clearly there are different definitions of racism at play here.

For example, I think membership in the KKK is a strong signal,
not whether you’ve told (or laughed at) ethnic/racial humor.

I also think most people have some degree of ethnic or cultural stereotypes at play in their mind. I don’t think that reaches the bar of making them racist.

Like I said, my definition of racism includes people with decades of publicly documented racism.

Quotes by a disgruntled former employee. It’s like using Larry Sinclair for evidence of things Obama was into.

"The stuff O’Donnell wrote about me is probably true,” he told Playboy in an interview published in May 1997.

I think he denied those specific quotes. And Jackson gave him that award two years later. So Jesse Jackson must not have thought he was a racist.
