Now, mail-in votes are a means for vote fraud?

" WASHINGTON — President Trump on Wednesday escalated his assault against mail voting, falsely claiming that Michigan and Nevada were engaged in voter fraud and had acted illegally, and threatening to withhold federal funds to those states if they proceed in expanding vote-by-mail efforts.

The president inaccurately accused Michigan of sending mail ballots to its residents. In fact, the secretary of state in Michigan sent applications for mail ballots, as election officials have done in other states, including those led by Republicans. In Nevada, where the Republican secretary of state declared the primary an all mail election, ballots are being sent to voters…

As most states largely abandon in-person voting because of health concerns, Mr. Trump, along with many of his Republican allies, have launched a series of false attacks to demonize mail voting as fraught with fraud and delivering an inherent advantage to Democratic candidates — despite there being scant evidence for either claim."

What depresses me is that it is ‘another day; another false or misleading Trump statement’. America has sunk to becoming inured to falsities from the Trump administration. I really feel this is a low point in American presidential history.

This is a low point? Really? We supported the Khmer Rouge after the Vietnamese liberated Cambodia. There’s been worse moments.

Yes. And we bombed Cambodia and lied about it.

In the history of US presidents, this is a low point when we cannot trust what is stated by the administration. Trump lying is just taken as a daily occurrence. There’s never been a time like this.
 
I don’t know, I’ve been taking what politicians say as lies for over a decade. I’m usually proven correct. 😁

Trump. He has first-hand knowledge of mail in voter fraud.

Allegedly registered with the Mar a lago address when no one is allowed to live there, and then let someone “harvest” his absentee ballot.

So, in this case, he knows a little about what he’s talking about. 😉

Disturbing news is coming out of Oregon, as hundreds of people are reporting that their voter registration was switched from Republican to non affiliated without their knowledge or permission.

Oregon is entirely vote-by-mail, and ballots were sent out in the last week of April, and due this Tuesday at 8:00 PM. Many were shocked to open their ballot to find that they were no longer with the party they thought they were with, and they received non partisan ballots. As Oregon is a closed primary state, this effectively denies these people the right to vote in the party’s primary that they thought they were registered as.

This is only reportedly happening to folks who were registered as Republican.​

Anybody who has ever worked as a party worker during elections know how easy it is to manipulate mail-in voting. With mail-in voting, we’ll never have another honest election again.
 
How is the poll worker supposed to verify that it isn’t fake?
 
Ask states that have done it successfully for decades. Republican states like Utah and mixed/ Democrat like Washington.
 
I agree. I’m suggesting that people who think a picture id is the end all to solving the perceived issue really haven’t thought it through.

I personally like either mail in or anyone over a certain age can go anywhere to vote. They have to dip their finger in indelible ink so that they can’t vote again. Yes, I know this is discriminatory to people without arms, but I’m sure that a visible mark could be made on them too.

REally good fake ID is expensive though. It’s worth it for people who are illegal immigrants who want to work here. But not many would pay the price just to vote. Besides, since employers are prohibited from questioning ID it’s easier to “pass” than it is with voting authorities who are not required to accept ID that looks bogus. Unlike employers, the election authorities can investigate.
 
And will these election officials be trained to spot fake ID? And why should someone that is working for 12 hours once a year (if that) and getting probably just a token payment be forced to take on that kind of responsibility. Will they have the authority to arrest these people? Fake ID is surely a crime. Will police be at every polling site to take care of anyone trying to commit voter fraud?

Seems like everyone is freaking out over something that really isn’t a problem.

BTW, voting by mail may help Republicans as younger people may not know how to use a mailbox 😃
 
Election officials do receive some training. It has been a long time since I worked as one, but the main thing is that there are representatives of both parties in every precinct at the polls. If either side wants to protest a ballot, he/she can and the ballot is placed in a separate place for review. Both parties have well-trained supervisors and lawyers on call to review.

In some places, it fails, and there’s no question about it. When it fails, it’s usually because the precinct is dominated by some powerful organization or person. We don’t have any like that around here, but I very much remember it in St. Louis, where the mob controlled some precincts and “political bosses” controlled others.

But the ability to control voting is very much enhanced by mail-in voting. When I did it, controlling absentee balloting was fairly minor; almost like a game. But in some places, it’s a very big deal even now. Mail in voting will place the entire system into the hands of people who have the power to control it. We’ll never have a fair election again. Never.
