79% of Americans want immigration to based on ability to contribute to the country.
As do I. And I believe that people who want to work and create a good life for themselves and their children contribute a lot to this country. I know my grandparents did.
Any evidence that chain migration brings people who contribute to the economy?
That is not what what actually happens in immigration to the US.
I had assumed that you were speaking from a position of actually knowing what you’re talking about. My bad.

Under current law, US citizens can bring their over their parents, spouses, and children (of any age or marital status), and siblings. These in turn can (upon becoming citizens themselves) sponsor others. Etc.

Large percentages (a third of Mexicans for example) of people in the third world would move here if they could. There’s no reason to believe that they won’t given current immigration law.

There’s no reason to believe that they won’t given current immigration law.
Immigration controls became much more stern after 7/11 and they were already quite strict.
Do not underestimate your Homeland Security.
In fact,it should be quite evident that given " third world countries" would want to move in according to you, were it that easy, they would already be there.
And it isn’t t the case. A little bit of credit to your Homeland Security ,please.

You should go to the website of the US immigration service to get a handle on the reality of how family preferences.

There are limits on the number of visas of various categories and on the numbers form various countries.
These limits lead to long wait times that regulate the flow of immigrants. For example, if a naturalized citizen originally from Mexico were to sponsor a sibling the current wait-time is about 20 years.

I’m curious as to why the military or a wall is required anyway
It is a fact that we have technology that can better serve the purpose and is more affordable than bodies and bricks - including the millions in court cases that will result from imminent domain claims.

Not to mention that it is already difficult to obtain a simple tourist visa in so many cases.

I’m not sure what your point is or if you have one. Huge percentages of (majorities in some cases) of people in third world countries say they would leave if they were able to. As long as we keep admitting them, there is no reason to believe that they’ll stop coming until America itself is a third world country.

That there’s a yearly cap on chain migration doesn’t change the fact that it’s causing massive demographic change.

The longer wait for Mexicans is due to the fact that so many of them want in. No more than 7% of our immigrants are allowed to come from a given country in a single year.

Thus, the flow is regulated; it is constricted.
Rapid action only occurs for minor children and for parents.
You neglected these important facts in you post #47.

The idea of a massive influx of extended family doesn’t square with reality.

If you only consume one cyanide capsule a day, that flow is “regulated” too I suppose.

The point, which you seem bent on missing, is that current immigration levels are replacement-level. That it will take a few decades doesn’t change this.

I realized later that mine was sort of a lazy post, sorry…
I believe your immigration laws are strict and that it is very difficult to migrate to US.
Much more difficult if it is considered/ perceived/ estimated that there are reasons one will overstay.
The most common way to become illegal, check it out again just in case,is to overstay.
What I am saying is that there is a quite consistent and effective " strainer" or " barrier".
The other issue is that even obtaining a tourist visa requires one to undergo several steps of scrutiny which aren’t precisely easy.
In other words, your system has worked for years.
There is flaw in thinking that people cross the border walking because they want to. And this I have already explained,so excuse me if you have heard it. There is no door for those who have no sufficient anchorage( money, property,a good job, etc) in their homeland ,proof of which you have to show at the intwrviews, that it is perceived that one will arrive and overstay the visa.
So,the people who cross the border walking from far, would not qualify for any Visa .
If am still messy explaining,I do not mind expanding or rephrasing,Arkansan.

The fact that many people want to come here, does not refute my point in any way.

I’m speaking about permanent immigration, not tourism.

Tourist is the commonest way to overstay.
Permanent has a lot of requisites and very extended in time that would make it impossible for anyone unrelated unless sponsored by the company and even then examined by the pertinent authorities .
So,no. That immigration laws are lax,and that you would have the " Thirld World" or whatever world in US lies in your imagination.
You have got a sound team protecting you. And that should be very obvious to all.

I’m not sure what you don’t understand. I am not talking about illegal immigration. Nor am I talking about H1Bs. I’m talking about legal chain migration.

So am I.
And both.
We lived in US for almost 7 years and have travelled there countless times.
Chain migration doesn’t t even give for granted that a member of the family will be allowed in . it really takes years and years, and paperwork and more.
And even if you have the money,it isn t always granted.
Now,this is brand new. The addresses of social.media one uses have to be presented to be considered when requesting any Visa.

You are right. I certainly did not gather from your comments that that was your point. It seemed, from your statements, that your point was that current immigration policy is connected to people bringing their extended family and needing to bring their whole country.

The point that you bring up here, is not clear. Can you clarify it?

My point is that, given how chain migration works and the fact that so many people want to come here, it will result in the American people being replaced. Allowing chain migration means allowing an unlimited (in the long-term) number of migrants to come here.

It’s easier to just follow their leader Donald J Trump.

No…unless you have been there making the queue, you may not know, Sy.
It should be obvious that if it were easy and " the world" just wanted to be there…it would have already happened. As it hasn t.

I was merely referring to it being easier for the followers of DJT to simply follow what DJT says than to go to an immigration website for a reality check as another poster proposed.

I get it now.
I’ m not in one of my brightest days( not that I have many 🙂 ),I have a cold,Sy

If you look at the numbers, and don’t single out family preference immigration but include all immigration, then immigration slightly exceeds net native-born growth. But the margin is small and the time for “replacement” would be so long that assimilation would outpace it.
