What was the demographic make up of the US fifty years ago? What is it now? What will it be fifty years from now if current trends continue?

It isn’t that hard to understand.

You do understand, don’t you, that these people are not Mexicans and that Mexico won’t ordinarily let them into Mexico unless they’re going through to the U.S.?
Unless it has changed since the last I looked into who God created, Hondurans are God’s people too. And as was pointed out by Ellipses, His Holiness said lets not build walls but bridges. Yet for some reason you left that part out of the post you quoted. I know though that doesn’t fit with the politics of some.

Any evidence that chain migration brings people who contribute to the economy?
Yeah. I don’t know if you’re Catholic and live in an area with a large Latino population. But if so, you may be offering the sign of peace with the evidence sitting in the pew next to you at Mass.

The fraction of immigrants in the US population is about the same as it was from 1860 until 1920.
Looking at the current trend line, it looks like this level will be essentially constant in the future.

Or were you asking about race and ethnicty?

Do you honestly know how the Family reunification act works and how family members are sponsored?

Because it is and has been limited in scope to immediate family.

Spouses, children, are first, siblings after ( I know an Italian professor who waited over 15 years for his sponsorship through his sister to be cleared)

I guess “chain migration” sounds ominous, I think it’s meant to. But it is limited in scope.

A better idea would be to fine the people who build buildings or own hotels or farms for any illegals working on their properties.

Since ignorance of the law is not an excuse for breaking other laws, they also should not get a break because they didn’t know the status of who they or their subcontractors hired.

Surely all the governors of the Southern States would work with Trump to have the guard protect the borders! Especially California!

This article says California will review the request so that is not a firm “no” from them. we will have to wait and see. it also says “Governors of the other three U.S. states bordering Mexico were largely supportive of the move”

on a separate but related note, in 1957 Eisenhower placed the Arkansas Nation Guard under federal control to protect the Little Rock Nine who the Democrat Gov was refusing to allow to go the school because they were black despite a unanimous SCOTUS ruling saying they could… I don’t know all the details but surely the Dem Gov did not give the OK to Eisenhower to use the Arkansas National Guard to go against his wishes. So the question is: Did Eisenhower break the law or does the president not need the OK from the Gov to federalize the National Guard? maybe not in certain cases? I have never heard criticism of Eisenhower for his actions because he violated the posse comitatus act.

In most of the books that have fictional disasters hitting the USA, one of the main tactics used by the remaining US government is to send the National Guard from one state to another state to maintain order, since they would have less ties to the people of the state they were sent to than the one they came from.

Apparently, I am becoming more and more suspicious of the government as I get older and older. Either that or I need to stop reading the EMP and books like that and trust my government when they start sending troops hither and yon.

Just using some of our military drones will greatly help ICE direct border patrol in their work.

Just as Democrats always leave out Trump’s saying the wall would have a “great big door”. Bridges, big doors. Macht nichts.

I find the lack of empathy here sickening people. We are ALL God’s children and the people of Mexico happen to be our literal NEIGHBORS. It’s time to look beyond our borders and realize we must always help those in need and welcome them with open arms. Build bridges not walls as the Pope himself said.
When you invite that lovely illegal immigrant family to live in your house, eat your food, share your vehilcle, use your health care, etc. until they are able to look after themselves. I will take your concerns seriously

When exactly HAVEN’T we helped our southern neighbors in a crisis.

We are usually first on the scene (among neighbors) with support after an earthquake or any other disaster.

I think the issue is not change itself, but the rate of change.
A more gradual change can allow more time for melding of the cultures.

The issue is also about jobs, and too much competition for entry level work that pushes citizens out of the market in favor of illegal immigrants. The bottom economic class is hurt the most by high levels of illegal immigration.

Refugee immigrants often start at the bottom but the number of refugees is quite manageable and doesn’t disrupt the jobs market.

Legal immigration covers a wide range of classes and most legal immigrants are qualified above entry level work. Changing our system to be more like Canada or Australia will further move legal immigrants up skills ladder, away from entry level work.

I miss Mexico. I miss Cancun, Mazatlan, Xcaret, the pyramids, and the beaches! I miss the hospitality they give. I miss their crazy bus system.

Why is Mexico so hated? I have always found it a great place. I love Mexican soap operas even though I don’t speak Spanish; they are so dramatic and exciting! I admit I’m clueless on the political stuff. I can’t see why they are crossing the boarder. What’s so bad with Mexico that they do this stuff? Can Mexico be fixed?
