Great. Now you may why we create programs like Medicare and Medicaid and the ACA, so that people who aren’t rich are still covered for healthcare costs.

And I hope that you will understand that such programs should be available to others.
I wish I could buy affordable private health insurance.

Well you see that’s the problem with private insurance, it could never be truly affordable at age 65 as the risk goes up as we get older. So either the young subsidize the old, or the premiums for the old go through the roof.

With the Canadian single-payer system, the wealthier do pay more for health care as they generally pay more taxes. Far better that we subsidize each other through taxes, than having the young and healthy resent subsidizing the sick, poor and old, which hardly builds a culture of life where the old and sick are afforded the dignity and respect they deserve.

In laissez-faire capitalist health care, the old simply become a burden resented by the young and healthy.

Trump could drop his pants in the Rose Garden and start communicating via his butt cheeks like Ace Ventura and within ten minutes 35% of the country would be telling each other, "Isn’t it great how he’s shaking up those stuffy Washington types? Such a fresh, innovative approach
I know, right?!!

Catholic apologist Mark Shea says (paraphrasing) that Trump could bite the head off a bat in Times Square and his supporters would just shrug and say, “So? Obama ate weird things too!”
Don’t give him any ideas. I suppose he can eat a bat if he wants but Trump’s behind is not something I wanna see!

Those of you who keep beating the drum of Trump’s supporters’ blind devotion are really being disingenuous.Do any of you ever stop to think about why DT is our president? What if by chance there was a status quo Republican running, who had a real strong chance of defeating the Dem nominee, because the Dems, for once maybe refused to vote lock step for that nominee. Then in steps DT to run on the dem ticket, even as obnoxious as he can be,the party sees a chance here.Supports him because it is more important to defeat the Republucan candidate than it is to completely like ans support DT.Add to that DT promises to make changes and appoint a liberal leaning SCOTUS.
Can any of you, outside of a few purists, actually believe he wouldn’t have prevailed and won?
For the umpteenth time Trump is a reaction to business as usual.in Washington.I also don’t believe he is a Conservative but at least he is following through as such.

We’ve had a number of Presidents come from outside Washington.

Maybe they have an advantage in elections for reasons you mention.

Good to know, I guess.

That doesn’t address my comments re the reality of why DT is president.znor does it concede to the fact that if the situation was reversed, the Dems wouldn’t have embraced DT for the same reason the Republucans did.

Yes. Because we had what much of the country saw as 2 unpopular candidates and he won less than a handful of states by less than 1%.

Not exactly moving mountains.

And just in regard to the Catholic vote since this is a Catholic forum, there was also a racial divide among Catholics. Whites vs Hispanics. White Catholics backed Trump 60%-37%. Hispanic Catholics however backed Clinton by an even larger margin than white Catholics backed Trump. Hispanic Catholics backed Clinton 67%-26%.

I appreciate the thrust of the thread, but honestly, it’s pointless. Trump has his diehard 35%, and they’re not going anywhere. If anyone can look at Trump’s first six months and not find him staggeringly incompetent and juvenile, it’s because they’ve decided not to see it. It’s a choice. Trump could drop his pants in the Rose Garden and start communicating via his butt cheeks like Ace Ventura and within ten minutes 35% of the country would be telling each other, “Isn’t it great how he’s shaking up those stuffy Washington types? They have as close to “full control” as you’re likely to find in the American system of government. The Presidency + Congress is about as good as any party can hope for.
What an absolutely crude post. Can’t you express yourself better than that?

Which n and of itself is a very very very sad commentary re the poor catechesis of a large majority of Catholic in the country.:(let me add,are this Catholics who actually live and breath their faith,or CINO?

I’m not following your point. Are you suggesting Hispanic Catholics don’t know their faith as well as white Catholics?

And I would suggest there are those Catholics who only live and breath their faith as long as it conforms to their political beliefs…😃

Clearly. We are to put our faith first, not the other way around as has been evidenced by so many “Catholic” politicians, who really are creating scandal by their support of intrinsic evils.
The fact that such a lRge majority of CTholics continue to support such politicians proves thT point.Prudential judgement has gone by the wayside, sorry to say:(

So where in the Catechism does it say Catholics must vote Republican?
