Trump's Tax Returns

I predict that President Trump will go down as the best president I will ever see in my lifetime.
I am told that someone was offended by my jokey comment suggesting that noone who was alive during a different presidency would be able to say that Trump was the best president of his lifetime. I have removed the joke, but I still think that Trump will not be considered the best president of anyone’s life, given that person was alive during any of the other modern presidencies.

There is nothing illegal about a public official not releasing his tax returns for public consumption, whether others have done so in the past, or not, and Democrats are absolutely writing new laws over this, and digging up a bad law from the 20s targeted at bootleggers. Several prominent Democratic members of Congress have also not released tax returns. Where are their fellow Democrats demanding they release them? You won’t hear it because they are just trying to embarrass Trump, not enforce any kind of rule of law. Furthermore, Democrats in Congress have never been so brazen in calling for the destruction of constitutional norms. They, and especially the presidential hopefuls, have called for the eradication of the electoral college, the abolition of the Senate, packing the Supreme Court, and striking down the second ammendment. Several Democrats in Congress have openly called religious liberty into question, suggesting that holding certain religious views disqualifies people from holding public office. Democrats at the state level have sued over every constitutional executive policy change Trump has enacted and gotten Democratic appointee judges to issue injunctions to stop all of them, clogging up the Supreme Court before these petty decisions get struck down.

Trump was wrong to use presidential emergency powers to circumvent Congress to address the border wall, but Obama largely set the precedent before him in using executive powers to circumvent the legislative branch when they wouldn’t pass the laws he wanted. And it is many of these very executive overreaches that Trump has tried to reverse that Democrats have opposed in the courts. Right now presidential candidate and senator Kamala Harris has declared that as president, if Congress doesn’t pass the gun control legislation she wants, she will enact it through executive fiat. Democrats have no interest in upholding constitutional norms. They only have an interest in furthering their agenda. I oppose Trump overreaching his constitutional authority, and I oppose any Democrat overreaching their Constitutional authority. And these attempts by Democrats to try to force Trump to release his tax returns are nothing more than a temper tantrum and they are increasingly disrupting the rule of law to get their way.

Disagreement is not “hatred.” Criticism is not “hatred.”
Wishing evil on a person IS hatred, and I have sure seen plenty of it on CAF and in the MSM. Many people WANT him to go broke and get indicted, and don’t mind saying so.

I know multimillionaires who lost a greater percentage of their wealth than that during those years, but who have restored their fortunes and more since then.

I didn’t keep exact track, but I’m confident I had a seriously negative net worth in 1985. Today, while I don’t consider myself “wealthy”, most people on here would think so.

When you’re in business, you have to accept that sometimes you’re going to have downturns that can sometimes be breathtaking. And real estate in the mid-1980s was a disaster. I saw some real estate lose as much as 80% of its value in less than a year.

notice he is specifically calling out fake news, NOT the “free press” like some people want to believe in their deluded memories.

Could you explain that.
Taxes are paid based on realized profit and loss. It doesn’t matter how much something increases in value, until it is sold and the profit realized.

If you took a bath on a particular stock, it’s quite appropriate to hold on to it in your account and sell some each year to offset/reduce the capital gains on other transactions, thereby reducing your taxes paid.

Personally I don’t pay attention to what Trump tweets about his revenue, I have no idea if it’s inflated. Why do you care?

Net worth is pretty subjective for the rich. Bezos isn’t really that rich, he can’t sell all his shares at the current market price. The stock would nosedive and he’d get far far less money.

Not funny at all.
Middle school humor. Who appears the be the toddler here?
I think that you both miss the point of the post, which was not to call the poster a toddler, or assimilate the poster’s thinking to that of a toddler, but to render an opinion that seeing Trump as the best president of one’s lifetime requires that one were born after the Obama’s presidency and were to die before the ends of Trump’s. I don’t doubt you disagree with that opinion, but let’s try not to make the post into something that it wasn’t.

Who is the Democratic candidate going to defeat Trump in 2020? I presently see no one capable of doing that: neither Joe Biden nor Bernie Sanders nor Elizabeth Warren; and certainly not Pete Buttigieg or Kamala Harris. As to Trump’s tax returns, as Hillary Clinton once said: “What does it matter at this point?” It’s all politics with no real substance.

Nixon was the first to release his returns. Every president since then has done so except Ford, who didn’t.

There’s no requirement for any president to do it. Normally, few care. But since the Dems are eager to snatch at any straw to spin in order to smear Trump, that’s what the hullabaloo is about. If I was Trump, I wouldn’t do it just to frustrate them.

Yeah, as big as the field of Democrat candidates is, I don’t really see anyone so far that’s going to unseat Trump.

And the bigger the field becomes, the more pathetic it appears. It’s similar to the field of Republican candidates in the 2016 election. Peggy Lee’s song “Is that all there is?” is especially appropriate here.

The tax code is interesting but the question was why lie about your revenue and your worth?

I lost money when my home went underwater back when the real estate bubble burst, so what I initially could claim as asset became liability.

So why lie about it?

Please reread my post.
So, if no one’s press passes were rescinded, and no one was barred or ejected, exactly how did President Obama “try” to bar Fox from news conferences?
One does not always succeed at trying. Trump didn’t succeed at trying to get Mueller fired. But his trying is an impeachable offence, according to some.

That’s part of Trump’s personality, full of braggadocio and hubris. And he thrives on controversy and conflict, always needing another mountain to climb. I wonder what he will do after the presidency, which I hear he wishes to extend. In a way, he is the typical Manhattanite real estate mogul, with a biting sense of humor to boot.

Abortion rates are falling because
Most people attribute falling abortion rates to improved access to contraception. Has there been any study provides evidence to support the causal relationship that you claim?
I had easy access to birth control pills when I was 16. $1.00 per month from PP. That was before abortion was legal in my state.

About 50% of abortions are performed on women who are using contraceptives. That’s from Guttmacher.

Contraception causes increases in abortion.

I think everyone probably understood that, but I deleted the joke. I guess politics and humor don’t mix on this forum.
