“Far Beyond the Stars” DS9 episode

Joseph Sisko: The question is: what are you going to do?
Benjamin Sisko: The only thing I can do. Stay here and finish the job I started. And if I fail…
Joseph: “I have fought the good fight. I finished the course. I have kept the faith.”

Benjamin: …I have begun to wonder. What if it wasn’t a dream? What if this life we’re leading, all of this—you and me, everything—what if all of this is the illusion?
Joseph: That’s a scary thought.
Benjamin: I know. I know. But maybe, just maybe… Benny isn’t the dream. We are. Maybe we’re nothing more than figments of his imagination. For all we know… at this very moment… somewhere far beyond all those distant stars… Benny Russell… is dreaming of us.

It’s all right not to care for Star Trek DS9. Ina Rae Hark (“Star Trek” book) compared the series to those outsiders who critique the human condition: Spock, Data, Odo, The Doctor, 7 of 9, etc. Such characters may be brilliant, even “a brilliant dead end, but no one ever asks them to be captain.”

As for “Far Beyond the Stars,”

the sequel “Shadows and Symbols” airs tonight for those of you who have the Heroes & Icons Network.

(I hope the pictures show up because they are some of the best.)

Living Biblically premiered this week on CBS. It looks to be quite good.

Breaking Bad and the Wire are both excellent if you can handle some adult themes.

That will be the case in any show or literature about flawed humans. Using the same logic, Madame Bovary was terrible because the behaviors portrayed were terrible.
Exactly. Just because a show portrays something doesn’t mean it’s endorsing it. I mean, go watch Breaking Bad all the way through and tell me that the show’s thesis is “you should become a meth dealer.”

I enjoyed the NBC show Parenthood, even when the characters annoyed me. I believe it is on Netflix, or it was. It followed a family in California and the intertwining of their adult children and their lives. The series finale was one of the best I have ever seen.

I also am enjoying This is Us, also on NBC, but they are only into season 2. Still, worth watching all the episodes on demand, there are many if you feel like binge watching one weekend. 😊 This show is also about a family and flashes back between the present and the past. Very interesting characters
This is Us is a great show! I think it has some of the best writing on television right now. And I love how positive it is about fatherhood and how important fathers are to their kids.

I love The Crown and it is tame until an episode (or 2) in season 2 where Princess Margaret’s boyfriend had explicit sex scenes with a woman and there’s nudity of his sex partners. Very disappointed in that. It was very out of place in the series.

Husband, wife, four young kids.

#5 is on the way.

I know what NOT to watch: “Friends.” I work at home a lot, and I often have the TV on for company. TBS was great until it started showing “Friends” from eight in the morning till four in the afternoon. I HATE that show! The people are finel I don’t hate them, I just HATE the show! I could tolerate one or two hours of it, but eight? Too much! I wrote TBS a nasty letter. I’m sure they didn’t care.

I only watch cable TV. Don’t watch the traditional networks.

We have recently watched or finished:
  • The Good Place
  • Riverdale
  • The Fall
  • Everything sucks
  • The Crown
  • Star Trek: Discovery
  • Westworld
  • Mindhunter

The Good Place is really good. 😃 We really enjoyed it! Great acting, and great storyline.

I have never heard of a single one of those shows! Where have I been living? I have to ask myself. I’ve not even seen them advertised!

The character already answered the question.

The Good Place is a comedy/drama that is free streaming online… at NBC.com. This is especially good since I don’t own cable. 😉.

Thank you. I do have cable and watch it almost exclusively.

Wow…why do you hate friends the show so much? I always thought it was funny. Don’t worry, I won’t take it personally. :wink:Why didn’t you like it?
