What you seem to equate with ‘lack of freedom of speech’ is actually just ‘I say unpopular things in public and people don’t like it’. He is not legally or politically stopped from sharing his views, what he DOES do is attract negative attention from the general public because those views are socially unpopular
It is not unpopular, it is freedom of speech. Did the UK not allow Michael Savage to go to the UK?

Wjat was that about, He is hardly a big draw in the US so why ban him from entering the UK?

No one is stopping them but you keep telling them that they have no clue because they do not live there. They can’t understand or relate to freedom of speech because they do not live there. That is not true.

Yet you yourself are not a citizen but feel you have every right to express an opinion.

There you go again,. You are the one who said it is not my nation but Ruby’s

I may not know much about Tommy Robinson but I would like to hear it from him. I see he speaks on Muslim gangs, big deal.

Freedom of speech (name removed by moderator)lies that pro life people have a right to demonstrate, That has been taken away by the UK. That is not opinion that is a fact.

And they do have a right to demonstrate and so regularly. Would you like my father’s (name removed by moderator)ut on that. He is a member of SPUC and regularly attends their meetings, well when it is not lockdown he does anyway and has marched with them many times.

We did a whole thread on this. Four area, London, Richmond, Manchester and have violated their rights by making 330 feet buffer zones. That is a violation of freedom of speech. They have a right to demonstrate without interference.

That again is your opinion. Your dad attends and hardly seems like the type. so he may just go to pray.

We allow freedom on speech at clinics and many/most do not feel that people are being harrassed. Yes some may but so what can be done nothing. No reason to stop their freedom of speech as the UK has chosen to do.

There you go again. Can’t have an opnion or understand another nation. Well freedom of speech is one the cornerstones of a democratic nation. Taken away that as the UK has chosen to do with the pro life demonstrators by creating 330 feet buffer zones is a corrosion of thet nation,

I think what @(name removed by moderator) is saying and which you seem to be missing, is that, you have to abandon the US as a gold standard by which you compare other countries. Step out of the American worldview, which is unique in and of itself and look at another nation without those US biased filters.

Have you ever traveled outside the US?

Freedom os speech is crucial to a democratic nation. We in the US have decided that freedom of speech entails the right to demonstate outside abortion clinics.
The Supreme Court has struck down a Massachusetts law mandating a 35-foot buffer zone around clinics that provide abortion services. … But in a unanimous ruling Thursday, the justices found that the buffer zone infringes on the First Amendment rights of protesters.Jun 26, 2014
They have institued 330 feet buffer zones in the UK.

Ealing Council implemented a 100-metre exclusion zone at the Marie Stopes centre last year after women complained of being intimidated.

The Good Counsel Network, which holds vigils outside the clinic in Ealing, west London, denied harassing women.

Three Court of Appeal judges dismissed the bid to overturn the ban on protests directly outside the facility.
The appeals court in the UK has said the at buffer zones are fine and now there are 4 counties that have buffer zones and more to be added. The Supreme Court has refused the case.

Freedom o speech is important no matter in the US or UK.

Yes that is exactly what I am saying. I’ve lived in several nations by this point in my life, trying to understand their culture by comparing it all the time to another nations tended to prove less than useful.

Freedom os speech is a tenet of a democratic nation. It does not take much to understand that the rights of the English pro life people are being denied.

It makes one questin, who else’s rights to freedom of speech are being denied?

I understand that you think I can not understand another nation’s views but I think it is a denial that pro life people rights in the UK are being trampled on.

The rights of English pro-lifers aren’t being denied.

If they were you will see pro-lifers in prison.

If you would like to see freedom of speech protected look to Hong Kong and the actions of the CCP.

Now that is violation of freedom of speech.

No it is not. Once one right is taken away others often follow. The UK has taken the rights of pro life people away be creating buffer zones and major buffer zones because not just 35 feet but 330 feet away. That is absurd. It is parcel of the same dynamics.
Except you have not shown in any way, that Tommys legal right to be a member of the far right has been eroded.
I don’t know what Tommy Robinson’s is a member of or not. He speaks on Muslim gangs, hardly a crime. You have taken away the right of pro life people and who knows what you call them. I really do not trust any thing the UK is doing because of your erosion of rights on pro life people.
He does a lot more than ‘speak on muslim gangs’. You keep repeating that phrase and focussing on that small aspect of his acitviies when people are repeatedly trying to aducate you on who he is and who he stands for.

For clarity:
  • He is NOT just given a bad reputation for speaking on ‘muslim gangs’.
  • He exercises his full right to free speech in the UK by vocally advocating far right ideas and ideology
  • He further exercised that right by being the leader of a high profile far right, nationalistic group, which also engaged in political events and elections.
  • He is NOT prevented by the government from speaking his far right views. The reaction he gets from the GENERAL PUBLIC is a different matter.

Lets take the Westborough Baptist church in the USA as an example - they have all the legal right to say what they say and promote those views very publicly. They also get a lot of public backlash for that, but they still have the legal right to do so. Tommy is exactly the same. Do the Westborough Baptist church have grounds to seek political/religious asylum elsewhere?
Last I checked no one has complained they are being targeted for their opinions.
They absolutely are! they get things thrown at them whilst protesting, abuse shouted at them, hate mail, abuse online, threats in public, they have to live on a seperate compound with its own security because people were targeting their homes. Have you not seen them discuss that on the various documentaries done on them? Louis Theraux has done 3 that go into great depth on the reaction they get. Perhaps they should cry for political asylum elsewhere since their ‘freedom of speech’ is generating the exact same results Tommy Robinsons is.

I’ve run into a lot of threads in which after a far right figure is castigated for long running hateful behaviour, they are presented as a victim with a sanitized presentation of their background.

They are being denied. They have institued a buffer zone law at four different counties.

They said that all the time in the US but it was not true. In fact, pro life people were being struck by the pro choice people. Many times it made the news. So do I believe that these praying people are nasty, no. There always can be a bad apple but then focus on that and do not deny the rest their right to freedom of speech.

Westboro Baptist Church do not even make the news much and if they have things thrown at them they are not complaining and do not feel threatened. Their property has not been firebombed. They do not feel unsafe. I posted an article about one man who said he wanted to kill Tommy Robinson.

Guy sounds like a scumbag. We have enough far right enthusiasts over here as it is.

You guys can keep him!
