Yep, that’s definantly a concern… I’m concerned also about the fate of The EU should it mutate into a more Federalist type governance -and already calling itself “Europa”… :confused:

Really, if the Vatican doesn’t play a role in Europa, then for what reason should Catholics support it -especially considering the anti-Catholic sentiments that have been growing throughout Europe since the “enlightenment” period?

Can there be / is there any nation in the EU that did not / will not bow to social strings that come with money?
 
If Putin had been in charge in 99, I think Kosovo would still be part of Serbia. Couldn’t see Vlad standing by doing nothing while NATO bombed Serbia.

The choice to vote NO has been held back from the people in this referendum. Which makes it a sham.

In post #1590, you said that the second choice in the Crimean referendum was to declare independence and then join Russia. That is not true. That is not the second choice on the ballot.

At the link, it says there are fewer than 50,000 members of the movement. I don’t know… I think in some ways the European Union is in more danger of disintegrating than becoming stronger. A few countries probably wish they could leave, and regret adopting the euro, which makes it very, very difficult to pull out.

Boris Yeltsin handpicked Putin, much of the austere aura in Russia is a result of the past 100 years. The fast paced and various social political movements alarm them. This is what our present administration failed to realize. There’s a glaring difference in the Catholic missionary work in Ukraine and the US political involvement which is more indicative of the current administration which continues the false path of a democratic dynasty world wide.

Many of the economies are intimately linked to Russia, such as Germany, it makes it an awkward situation in a very difficult economic period and for Russia also. You can’t expect these interconnected countries to cut off their nose in spite of their face.

Poland, for one (aside from the gadflies of Palikot’s gang, the consensus seems staunchly pro-life). Hungary, too. Croatia, of course, recently voted against SSM.

Which is what frustrates me about how some American Catholics here and elsewhere seem to think the only way to stop the barbarism is to side with Putin. There are countries between Minsk and the Oder, you know.

And people wonder why Putin’s annoyed, I know he has no authority in Ukraine, but he’ll realise letting the west into a country on his doorstep could in some way hinder Russia, esp. through Crimea would be very ‘irritating’ to say the least. It also amazes me that after the Syrian standoff there is very minimal reports about the situation in the western media - so that ‘problem’s’ disappeared then, I take it. :rolleyes: It’s only reported when the western heroes can ride in on their white horses and ‘save’ the country.

And as a sovereign nation, Ukraine has as much a right to NATO bases on it’s territory as Cuba had to Soviet missiles bases on there’s in the early 60’s. Perhaps some hardline Russian commander will suggest to Putin in the manner of Curtis LeMay, that the big NATO octopus is prowling in our waters and we are justified in shooting it.
 
Russian troops reported in mainland Ukraine (Khersonska Oblast), minefield reported near village of Chongar, Khersonska Oblast. The village school in Chongar has been closed since Wednesday because of the mines and because of the weapons on the armored personnel carriers that are pointed straight at the center of the village.

This may have been mentioned before. I was listening to a guardian correspondent on Irish radio about the situation that was fair to all concerned. However, he said Russia could stop gas to the Ukraine due to their non-payment to get the West rattled, as all pipe lines go through Ukraine to the west. HOWEVER, he then said apart from our ‘EU leaders’, the Germans. They have their own ‘private’ gas pipeline from Northern Russia and would not be effected! Those Germans are so damn smart! 😃
