So no response to the article? Or can we just assume it away like all the rest of the data?

I have not read it yet.

Too busy responding to another poster.

Overall I agree with a growing black underclass that is giving rise to more and more crime.

This makes it more that disenfranchised people who have no stake in the society they live in are more likely to commit crimes.

I am still of the mind that black people are not more criminally inclined than other groups, all things being equal. There is no “crime” gene that makes black people more criminally inclined.

It still does not excuse cops killing suspects who are not resisting in any way. Like that recent case of a man who was repeatedly tased and killed when he was pulled over for not dimming his lights.

No one’s arguing they are more criminally inclined as if there’s just something inside them that makes them criminals. It’s a cultural artifact, not genetic. But solving the problems means addressing them. We can address police brutality along with addressing crime rates. It’s not an either/or situation.

I can understand that to a degree (bias towards a group) but violent crimes leave an indelible mark on the victim and the community, in other words, cops can’t ignore such crimes nor have prior knowledge of who did it to render your theory possible that other racial groups are not being as vigorously pursued or convicted of similar crimes by the police.

It might be conceivable vis a vis petty crimes but not violent ones.

I agree with violent crimes not being ignored by police regardless of the perpetrator.

I had in mind less violent, less deadly crimes.

Like traffic stops or possession of small amounts of marijuana. That sort of thing.

Who is more likely to stopped or reported to police for that matter.

Supposing I get locked out of my home and then try to climb in the window. Will my neighbors be more likely to call the police if I wasn’t a petite female but a black male?

I actually had a roommate once who told me that she had started dating a black man because she didn’t want me to be alarmed if I saw a black man in our home. I told her there was a pretty good chance I was going to be alarmed if I saw any total stranger wandering around our house unless I knew they had an invitation. As for being a rapist, by far most of the people accused of rape who got their drivers licence photos posted on the TV warnings in that area happened to be white, not black.

If your friend was Filipino or Vietnamese, her brothers would still have a problem with him dating their sister.

Some Chinese also look down on Southeast Asians.

Yes, I am familiar with that era.

I first became aware of that era because of the scandals that went on during 2018 where people were wrongly deported.

In the US, politics seem much more concerned about illegal immigration by people with the “wrong” kind of names and skin than people from the “right” countries who overstay their visas. Nobody is building walls to stop that. This is pretty ironic when you consider that the people physically coming across the border are willing to do the work that people criticize as “dead end” jobs that deserve pay and benefits below what is needed to live. If you have a job like that and food insecurity, the solution is that you should have gone to college and majored in the “right” thing. Someone keeps forgetting that the nation would grind to a halt if the people doing the “dead end” or “low paying” jobs all decided to quit doing them. (If you think the grocery stores looked bare when the pandemic hit…)

Some even have the chutzpah to blame things on those few professions that still have unions. They aren’t perfect, but I hate to think where the teachers and the police would be right now without their unions.

Just so we understand each other I am not denying that violent crimes are disproportionately being committed by blacks, only that vis a vis petty crimes, there may be bias against them.

I believe at the root of the violence in black communities however is the lack of a strong family unit, i.e., too many black children are born out of wedlock and without fathers to guide them.

Poverty, juvenile delinquency, drug use, promiscuity, gang warfare . . .etc., would be much diminished if emphasis was put on fatherhood and marriage.
