Do you have any evidence that any theologian has deplored this? Or are you just making it up?

If I am wrong about this person being a theologian, not only will I be relieved, but I will be more than happy to apologize. Either way, I expect evidence of status. Either way, as I understand, the posts are public information.

I found this one:
I just love reading your marvelously crafted posts! I so often want to bang my head against the wall when encountering the utter obstinancy of some folks re: anything to do with evolution. Thank you!

BTW, as a point of fact, not opinion, “blasphemy” is to “show contempt or lack of reverence for God”. No assertion about a book or even about a Religious Sister, can be “blasphemous”.
So, has Sister Johnson become a god? Hmmmm…

Quest for the Living God is not difficult to interpret for anyone trained in theology. There is nothing in the book that my undergraduates cannot understand once they are introduced to the philosophical and theological language. I have used some books that proved to be less accessible, and dropped them when I found they simply were not helpful. For my master’s level classes *Quest *is a superb tool for updating students in a wide range of doctrinal areas. I believe that is why it is so widely assigned. And sales are never hurt by the book receiving this kind of public attention – I posted about it on Facebook and a number of friends have run out to order it!
So, you make yourself superior to the Bishops in evaluating Johnson’s book? I don’t use the term “Sister” because she does not.

So, you make yourself superior to the Bishops in evaluating Johnson’s book?.
No, not superior, but different. The Church is many members in one body. Theologians have one function; bishops have another function. Both serve the one Church.

If this is your answer to the issue raised in posts 95, 96, 103, and 109.
So be it.
It is typical.
Can you summarize, those please? I am about to leave for the CTSA Conference in San Jose, California, where I hope to meet Sister Doctor Elizabeth Johnson…

I believe that the dangers of modernism and disobedience are being clearly revealed in this thread. God, in His wisdom, placed an authoritative hierarchy over His Church to prevent such entropic infusion into revealed truth, as well as to apply curative measures when such divisiveness arises.

Those who have knowingly placed themselves outside of obedience to the Church reveal the dangers inherent in their actions. They steadfastly refuse fraternal correction, which is based in charity:
CCC1829 The fruits of charity are joy, peace, and mercy; charity demands beneficence and fraternal correction; it is benevolence; it fosters reciprocity and remains disinterested and generous; it is friendship and communion: Love is itself the fulfillment of all our works. There is the goal; that is why we run: we run toward it, and once we reach it, in it we shall find rest.
By the standards of Christ Himself…
Matthew 18:15-18
Douay-Rheims 1899 American Edition (DRA) (Gender corrected to avoid offense)
But if thy Sister shall offend against thee, go, and rebuke her between thee and her alone. If she shall hear thee, thou shalt gain thy sister.
Code:
And if she will not hear thee, take with thee one or two more: that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may stand.
Code:
And if she will not hear them: tell the church. And if she will not hear the church, let her be to thee as the heathen and publican.
Code:
Amen I say to you, whatsoever you shall bind upon earth, shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose upon earth, shall be loosed also in heaven.
…does not Sister Johnson risk categorizing herself as a pagan or a tax collector? The Church has ruled, yet she defends her actions, rather than accepting correction and repenting. She has caused, and is causing, serious scandal within the Church - first through her aberrant theology and secondly via her lack of contrition.

The fact that she published her book without applying for the Imprimatur is telling, for those whose minds are open. It is my unassailable personal opinion that she subversively chose to avoid the process. Disagree if you will; moan and groan if you must; be affronted even, but my opinion was not formed in a vacuum.

Have you read “Signature in the Cell” yet?
I’m surprised. Of all the people I recommended it to, I least suspected that you would be the first one to actually read it (or at least to having admitted that they read it). All the others who commented on it had read only book reviews by other people who actually hadn’t read the book. So I give you credit for having the courage to go through it (and it is quite a long book, and very technical in some parts).

I can imagine the scene:

Hello there Sister Doctor Johnson, good to see you again.

And hello to you Doctor Professor St. Anastasia.

(They look around to be sure that no males are close by - secret handshake ensues…)
😉

Well, I don’t mean I read *all *508 pages of it…

Hey, we’re not Germans… I hope we will be on a first-name basis after the formalities are over. This is a working conference, after all, with working breakfasts, morning Mass, paper sessions, business, meetings, planning for 2012, etc.

By the way, I found Steven Meyer’s “epistemological cost”(507-508) less than convincing. I like Steven – he is very engaging – but to claim that inflationary cosmology necessarily implies that fully formed brains pop into and out of existence is a bit of a stretch. Then again, I don’t hang around inflationary cosmologists much, so maybe some of them do say this, odd though it sounds.

Well, I see you read the last 2 pages. Unfortunately, you didn’t get the context of the first 506 pages. Those were not his views. He uses this concept to show the absurdity of the multi-verse concept (which is typically used to get around the fine-tuning of the universe arguments for the existence of God).

You might find the first few chapters interesting. These have to do with how do we know what we know, and the different models of scientific inquiry.

This is false. Seven bishops expressed concern over Sister Johnson’s book, and she has responded candidly and prayerfully to their concerns. It would be more honest if you were to read her response before shooting from the hip.
She has caused, and is causing, serious scandal within the Church - first through her aberrant theology and secondly via her lack of contrition.
Hogwash. She has caused no scandal, first because her theology is not aberrant – at least not to theologians – and second, because she has replied courteously and earnestly to the bishops in question.
The fact that she published her book without applying for the Imprimatur is telling, for those whose minds are open.
Most Catholic theologians don’t seeking an imprimatur any more.
