Well, I see you read the last 2 pages. Unfortunately, you didn’t get the context of the first 506 pages. Those were not his views. He uses this concept to show the absurdity of the multi-verse concept (which is typically used to get around the fine-tuning of the universe arguments for the existence of God).
I know those aren’t his views, but they seem to be his understanding of what inflationary cosmology implies, and I don’t know whether that is necessarily true., Joel Primack would not agree I think) that the sudden appearance of structures is implied by inflation.

For the record, I agree with Meyer that the multiverse hypothesis is a groundless and gratuitous assumption. It is certainly not needed by theistic evolution, although it is not antithetical to it.

You might find the first few chapters interesting. These have to do with how do we know what we know, and the different models of scientific inquiry.
Ricmat, I’m going to have to wait 'til after CTSA to get back to you about those chapter. Monday-ish!

Ask her if she think it “is not only permissible but necessary” to add the formula, “In the name of the Mother, Son and Holy Spirit” to make those woman to alleviate “the discomfort with the dominant images of God as father, lord, and king” (96). Seriously.

Do you ever read theology? Do you ever do people who have been attacked the courtesy of reading what they write? If not, I encourage you to do Sister Johnson the courtesy of reading her response to the bishops. Perhaps you will learn why your baseless assertion in this post is so ridiculous.

I wouldn’t call it baseless, it could be her possible solution to address the* “dominant images of God as father, lord, and king”. *Maybe you can ask her how she envisions this will happen.

No, not superior, but different. The Church is many members in one body. Theologians have one function; bishops have another function. Both serve the one Church.
But, theologians serve only under the authority of the Bishops. Here (bolding mine),
Most bishops are not theologically trained. Watching them attack Elizabeth Johnson is like watching people in birch bark canoes armed with bows and arrows attacking a fully armed “British Man of War.”
you seem to intimate some type of equality between secular theologians and ordained Bishops. I note that, as the successors of the Apostles, and within their ordained sacerdotal role, they function as Priest in sanctification; as Prophet in teaching, and as King in their governance.

Rhetorical: Do you not see a problem in your unflinching allegiance to Sister, and your diminution of the Bishops?

Do the courtesy of reading her statement, and perhaps you will learn how wrong you are. Unless that would be too embarrassing.

I do not have an unflinching allegiance. I have an opposition to people who cannot, or will not read her work. I’m not diminishing any bishops.

Only if you ask her.
I just found out from a mutual friend that I will be having dinner with Sister Doctor Elizabeth Johnson Friday night at the CTSA in San Jose. I won’t ask her your question because that would be too insulting. Moreover, I read her statement to the bishops and I already know what her answer is.

Equality? Yes, of course.

Would you kindly point out the similarities in views between yourself and Elizabeth Johnson since you said you used the book in your classroom. (post 80)

Having someone of your experience speak openly would certainly clear the air. Of course I realize that there are many different ways to explore theology. Would you enlighten us as to your chosen way? And then compare it with Dr. Johnson’s?

Jesus was confronted with baseless assertions, and he paid a much higher price than Sister Johnson. Perhaps this is her cross, provided to her so like Christ, she could learn obedience and humility. Demanding that things be fair is inconsistent with God’s plan for us. IMO it is a symptom of envy. Like Christ, perhaps she should offer up her acceptance of this “unfairness” as a redemptive act for the sins of us all.

Just a thought.

I just noticed you referred to secular theologians. I have used secular theology and a reader wasn’t sure what I was talking about.

Actually, I am more interested in your work. Would you please explain it in the light of Elizabeth Johnson. That would put to rest some of the questions on this thread. It is time that you speak up for yourself.

Then you’re doing her an injustice. I won’t be the only one drawing these conclustions from her radical statments.

Btw, my dear StAnastasia, I was not the first to coin that phase, “in the name of the Mother, the Son, and the Holy Spirit”. This term was actually introduced to me about 12 years ago from the “sisters” who run Our Lady of Peace Catholic school in San Diego. The vibe from this school, as it was described from me, was reminiscent of the excerpts I read from her book. They were also feminists who pushed for women ordination.

Since you are pretty familiar with the sisters beliefs, what are her thoughts on women’s ordination, contraception, gay marriage, the Liturgy, etc? Also, feel free to post the relevant areas of her response that address this “*dominant images of God as father, lord, and king” *issue/problem/phenomena/fact?

Equality? Yes, of course.
There is the problem - but only as long as you claim, or identify as Catholic. Theologians are not a part of the heriarchy unless they are ordained. They are in no way equals of the successors of the Apostles. This is error.

Have you considered another Church? If not, why not? It is clear that you have substantial difficulties with Catholic teaching.

This gets back to the fact that Seminaries, Convents, and most Catholic Universities are not required to use the “Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition” as a Student Text.
Studying the CCC would help keep students from making errors, keep teachers from making errors, and expose purposeful errors from enemies within the Church.
Wow, no wonder we have several priests who are not worth their salt. Didn’t the church maintain a list of all questionable and/or banned books?
