58% of the posts on this thread have been made by seekerz and Mickey. 45 and 46 respectively out of 156.

91/156= 58%. From 2 people.

Those are just the facts. I think it makes this thread read like a shouting match between 2 people (and that’s why I haven’t read most of it).

Pray for our Christian brothers in Syria!

If the topic is important enough to people, they discuss it. Why would that be a problem for you?

I’ve been praying for Syria ever since I saw video of a young boy’s tortured body about 1yr ago. No idea if he’s Christian or not and I really don’t care one way or another: if God took time to create him, that’s enough reason I should care about him and condemn the behavior of whoever the twisted adults are who condone such atrocities.

Is there a rule against submitting many posts on one thread? Is there a reason you felt obligated to put down percentages…or are you just a big fan of statistics?

Furthermore, I have ceased responding to seekerz and reading most of his/her posts because there will not be agreement between us, and the thread descends toward uncharity.

Having said that…please continue to pray for our Christisn brethren in Syria. If Assad is toppled…they will be eliminated.

Great editorial piece in the Asia Times Online from syndicated journalist Pepe Escobar, regarding what the future may hold for Syria atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/NH03Ak04.html
I’d say that the writer has an agenda much clearer than those he ascribes to neighboring countries. This ‘blame the Israelis’ strategy is getting really old.

Truth is, in the real world politics of the Middle East, concepts like respect for human dignity and equal protection for life get swept under the rug of clannish self-interest. We have seen numerous posts in the last few days on the dangers to Syria’s Christians but where were the posts calling for peace and tolerance in the days before things descended into civil war?

Seems like without intervention (or perhaps even with it, at this stage) it will be a question of who comes out top dog and who gets ‘annihilated’. Being constrained from acting as referees by those two paragons of human freedom, Russia and China, we in the rest of the world are being asked to take sides based on religion. Not a good situation, and even more sadly, completely preventable if responsible people had chose the path of the peacemakers early on.

Did you bother to read the interview link I posted to Der Spiegel ? It was with the Grand Mufti Sheikh Hassoun, the highest Sunni religious authority in Syria. I really have to believe that that guy’s opinion is alot more valid then the US State Department’s.

No I didn’t read it. I’m too busy wondering where all of these concerns and opinions were when the early atrocities were being reported.

I’m not inclined to believe anyone trying to act as a voice of reason NOW. Did they not have access to working televisions or radios when Kofi Annan was warning of civil war months ago while Assad played him for a jackass with numerous fake ceasefires?

Whither this sudden yearning for peace? Not that I’m accusing them of actually seeking peace, because all I hear are predictions of genocide if Assad loses. What is the Syrian translation of ‘peace’?

Well the interview was conducted last November, and the highest ranking Sunni cleric in the land, blames Saudi Arabia, the US, and Israel for what’s happening. And that’s from the religious leader of the group that Assad is supposedly oppressing the most.

Supposedly oppressing? That’s the crux of the issue - it’s all supposition and rhetoric because journalists scare Assad. The ‘truth’ then becomes whatever the loudest voice makes it.

I seem to remember a similar scenario in the last war between Israel and Lebanon. Hezbollah was lobbing rockets at civilians across the border while claiming the Israelis were targeting Lebanese civilians. Meanwhile Israelis were accusing Hezbollah of placing civilians in harms way and of fabricating stories of atrocities…

In the end, it becomes a matter of what one chooses to believe or not. I for one don’t choose to believe people who couldn’t seem to bat an eyelid over alleged atrocities when Assad’s position seemed unassailable.
