If only the North had that attitude about slavery we could have avoided the Civil War. Don’t like slavery - don’t own one.
Exactly. Also Biden made the pitch that being pro-life was a CATHOLIC (only) position and thus didn’t want to impose “his” religious views on others. BALONEY. I am so sick of this being a “religious” concept. It’s a human rights concept just as was slavery. Either a baby is a human being or it isn’t Joe. Your faith might inform you (well apparently not) but it’s the basis of that faith and its underlying principles that is the real foundation of the prolife position. You don’t need to be Catholic to believe babies are humans…geez

I thought Biden definitely played to his base and therefore was effective. However Ryan won the debate. Let’s face it, Ryan is a political novice when compared to Biden and very much held his own. For Ryan to tie Biden is truly stunning.

GODSPEED ROMNEY/RYAN OUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU!!

I haven’t read all the posts, so forgive me if this is redundant.

I thought Ryan did a terrible job. I was astonished how poorly he seemed to do, particularly in letting outright and outrageous lies by Biden go completely unchallenged.

On the other hand, I thought everybody would see it the same way and found to my surprise that they don’t. I have always thought of Biden as a mean-spirited and sarcastic man…always…notwithstanding that a lot of people don’t. I was very surprised to hear a lot of people focused on that and came away with a negative view of Biden and a positive view of Ryan, and precisely because of Biden’s interruptions, Cheshire cat grinning and, to some, his falsehoods.

To my great surprise, one person said he thought Ryan could “work across the aisle” to get things done (which a lot of people think important) whereas Biden convinced him nobody on the other side could ever work with Obama/Biden. I am very skeptical of the “bipartisanship” so many people expect, but thinking about it, I think Biden really did demonstrate that he would never listen to anybody else or even treat them with respect.

Ok, then. I hear the strawmen all the time so that I assumed you were doing the same. If the goal is ending ***legal ***abortion, it starts with overturning Roe V Wade so that the states can pass restrictive laws, wouldn’t you agree? And some states would make exceptions that we Catholics don’t agree with, but its a start. Should we not support parental notification laws because they don’t “end abortion”? I don’t think so. We need to do what we can. Romney would help us get there.

I am willing to accept an imperfect candidate in terms of working toward ending abortion, although I do see the point of those who insist on “Personhood Now”. There are many other things which disturb me about Romney, so I am still trying to discern whether I should vote for Romney, vote for another party, write someone in, or abstain from voting for that particular office. Last night’s debate and seeing how easily Ryan compromised on life principles was not encouraging. I was heavily involved in the primary, so I also am concerned about us continuing to accept the liberal candidates that the RNC throws at us.

Biden’s position of saying “I don’t want to impose my views on others” per talking about abortion.
But forced paying for abortion on demand - on others… is :mad:

That Biden hypocrisy horse… just doesn’t pony up.

My brother on the debate (hard-core Democrat):

“Biden wasn’t grinning, his dentures were loose!” He thougth Ryan came across as “pompous”, but I’m sure he would have thought that, regardless. 😃

If a member of the audience behaved the way Joe Biden did, the audience member would have been ejected from the room. This “moderator” never even issued a warning to him; very sad performance from both her and Joe Biden.

I have no problem with any politician’s rude antics, but agree that Ryan did pretty well and held his own, if barely.
Really?

If we can’t be respectful to one another, how can we possibly garner respect from the world?

What is diplomacy all about?

I don’t care. At least Ryan stands up for the real America, unlike our current socialist president.

People do not really make their choice based on Vice President–they vote for the person running for the Presidency. As long as Ryan held his own, it is a victory for the Romney team, and so long as Biden did not stumble, it is a victory for the Obama team. The truth is, VP candidates can only hurt, they rarely help.

In my view, Ryan and Biden both won! If we take an honest look at the debate results, the left thinks Biden won, and the right thinks Ryan won…so nothing changed, which means Ryan and Biden served their respective tickets well, which is all that can be hoped for.

Makes me wonder why they even call it a debate. Lots of strawmen and ad hominems. No rules of logic enforced. The question, especially the first just set Biden on his talking point. Off-topic remarks.

I also do not believe the 2-4% of undecided voters are going to make a choice based on the VP debate.
Fair enough. All I was saying is that Romney and Ryan represent real America better than the incumbents, that’s all.

I figured when I got up and read the news today, the Obama administration would have put out a statement disavowing Biden’s statements on the Benghazi attacks.

Maybe they think they will blow over? 🤷
Vice President Biden drew jeers from Republicans after he wrongly claimed at Thursday’s debate that the administration wasn’t told of requests for more diplomatic security in the run-up to the Libya terror attack.
He also raised eyebrows when he put the blame squarely on the shoulders of the intelligence community for the faulty narrative, pushed for more than a week by the administration, that the attack was a protest spun out of control.

I do not think Romney will end abortion. I suppose if he would restore the Mexico City policy, he may save some lives. Has he stated what he would do about the Mexico City policy?
He also wants to defund Planned Parenthood and he could have as many as two Supreme Court picks, so abortion is a huge issue. Defunding PP alone could save thousands.

Bidens performance last night was the result of Obama dismal performance last week. He was tasked with making the retorts the Left has been saying Obama should have made last week. He did a great job of throwing red meat to the Democrat base. However when you are a month out of the election it is a sign of trouble when you are still concerned about shoring up your base.

Biden’s debate reminded me of Robert Duvall’s character from A Civil Action who said, “to win a court case, object to everything! Keep objecting on every point so the other side can’t get a word in edgewise”
