There IS an authority. I gave you an example of it in my post; the Superior of the Jesuits for that area is the next step up the “food chain”, and he should be the one contacted about this. Not the Bishop, not the Internet. You’d think that “traditionalists” would have a better appreciation for the hierarchy of the Church and how it works, because it’s in place for a reason.

To have an issue with the hierarchy and how the tangibles of it works is to have an issue at the very least with the Magisteruim of the Church, since hierarchy has been in place since the New Testament.

EDIT: I want to point out by no means do I condone the actions of the parish or the people within (they are the dumb). I’m simply saying in the case of AB Dolan things may not be as cut and dry as they appear to be.
so, you dont think that the bishop should have contact their superior and make him aware of what is going in that parish and it should stop? why do you think this bishop instead decides to go along and give bad examples to others?

Excellent post, ecoclimber. Thanks for typing all that!

Archangel: I think ecoclimber’s post is the ultimate answer to all those who attacked you on the other sites.

Wisdomseeker: Once again, you’ve illuminated some of the most important facts in this St. Francis Xavier case and others like it.
Seriously, looking at bishop Dolan, he is a man who wants popularity. i dont like to talk bad about any clergy but we must call it like it is.
Most of us are not thrilled to be in the position of calling out heretical clergy, etc. but we have been forced into this uncomfortable position due to a lack of honest and courageous Church leadership. Who will fight for God and His rights if we, the average Catholics, don’t?

None of us wants to shine a spotlight on others’ sins/failures/shortcomings. However, in actuality, it is these bishops, priests, and parishioners who have boastfully shone the spotlight on themselves – putting their sins/errors/distortions/abuses on the world stage in a premeditated effort to destroy. As they spotlight themselves and their causes, they conveniently turn the spotlight away from God and HIS Cause.

Archbishop Dolan is a case in point. We don’t need a high-profile NY Archbishop slapping backs, guffawing it up, and becoming everybody’s “friend”. We need a leader who leads us to God who remains faithful to ALL the teachings of the Church. If he’s not not willing to stand behind God and his Church, we can’t stand behind him.

We’re living in a time where sisters publish material saying they are “moving beyond the Church, even beyond Jesus ”. We’ve got plenty of priests out there who subscribe to the same self-serving heterodoxy. Unfortunately, the Jesuits have been a problem in this area for a long time. The stakes are high and the time has come to be silent no more.

Before people crucify Archbishop Dolan and say “he’s out for popularity”, it’s possible that the Bishop’s hands are tied due to the Church being run/planted by the Jesuits. The Bishop does not have the authority to punish the Jesuits due to their unique role as consecrated religious.

The Bishop is not involved in the chain at all for specific Orders. For all we know it’s possible that Archbishop Dolan has reported these to Rome and it is being dealt with, and due to being unable to comment he cannot defend himself.

This is but one example. The Jesuit parish is making His Grace look poorly, yet he’s not responsible and cannot take corrective actions. That’s up to the Superior of the Jesuits.
I’m sorry, but no amount of excuses can provide a defense for Archbishop Dolan’s actions during the “rededication Mass”. His hands are not tied, insofar as (1) he did not have to preside over that mass, (2) he did not have to sit there while a New Age liturgical dancer held her incense bowl on the altar, (3) he did not have to give the active-gay-lifestyle-promoting “LGBT ministry” a huge thumbs up and smile. It is clear that while in St. Francis Xavier that day he wasn’t preaching the Gospel - he was endorsing the agenda of the Pastor and his followers.

This Church’s antics have been well-known for a long time. If Dolan had reported them to Rome, I think it’s safe to say he wouldn’t be part of that blasphemous day.

By the way, it was no secret that that Mass was held at the kickoff of Gay Pride week, culminating in the parish’s beloved gay pride parade. If you were forced to attend would you be smiling and praising or would you look on in horror?

And as others have said, former NY Cardinal Egan’s statement that this is “one of the great, great parishes of the world” - is just too much to take.

I just re-watched the video. There is so much in there that is so wrong I couldn’t absorb it all at once. (and this shows only some of what went on that day!)

Look at that altar consecration ceremony. Dolan seems to be putting on a theatrical performance. Not exactly the picture of a quietly holy or reverent man. Did you all notice that the bowl of incense the woman is gliding around with is the bowl of incense that was on the altar to consecrate it?! So she was part of the official consecration of the altar?!

The word “consecration” literally means “to associate with the sacred”. They seem to have changed the meaning to “to associate with the desecrated”.

It is dangerous to excuse this stuff for many reasons. Not least of which is because the GOOD priests and bishops out there need us to support them - and part of that support is doing our part to clean up the church. A lot of good priests out there get silenced when they speak out about abuses. Or they simply can’t speak out because of “obedience” to the bishops. (although, one is never called to obey disobedience) This is where we have to step in, educate ourselves, and stop the madness in any way we can.

Think about all the insanity that has gone on for years with the CCHD collection. Our hard earned money has been funding abortion groups and yes, gay rights/gay marriage groups. There have been a handful of terrific bishops who have stopped the CCHD collections (among them Bishop Robert J. Baker, Bishop John O. Barres, Bishop Fabian Bruskewitz, Bishop Victor Galeone, Bishop Robert C. Morlino, Bishop Edward J. Slattery). Dolan hasn’t stopped the collection. Are we surprised?

Dolan sat there and told the priests/people of St. Francis Xavier that they are a “booster shot of hope”. He’s made it plain where he stands. No excuses can be made. Oh, and Melchior - the provincial of the Jesuits, Fr. Ciancimino was there that day & spoke - so he too has put his enthusiastic stamp of approval on that parish.

Why was Dolan using what I called a brownie tin instead of a gold paten? Not only could he have brought his own (or IS that his own?) but St. Francis Xavier certainly has gold chalices/patens. Where are all those beautiful ones? This is a church that was founded in 1847. They used to have an elementary school - that is now closed. They had a prestigious military academy - that is now closed. This is a stalwart, foundational Church of America that has been taken over.

An apropos quote for today: Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it. – Thomas Paine

Substitute “The One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church” for the word, “freedom” and read it again.

On this July 4th weekend we thank all the men and women in fatigues who fought for our freedoms in this country and abroad.

Happy July 4th to all! :tiphat:

Check out what this guys message me: @catholicarchangel @catholicarchangel you must not be familiar with The Society Of Jesus who run Xavier among a few of the MAJOR educational institutions like Gregorian University, ESADE, Georgetown Fordham and Boston College just to name a few. Some of the worlds most prominent Catholics are Jesuit Educated . Xavier is doing what the rest of the Catholic Church is doing -
Than he sent me a private message asking me what college did I go to.

The fact that the Jesuits have so many prominent universities is why it’s such a problem. (If they had no influence, we wouldn’t be concerned.) There are gay/lesbian clubs at most, if not all of those places. Why?

They are destroying some of the best Catholic brains in the country. Most kids who go to any of those colleges lose their faith. He must be a graduate of one of these fried-brain universities - if he went to school.

Many posters have violated the rules that we have given posters on Catholic News and other forums.
  • You may not attack the bishops.
  • You man not make uncharitable remarks about religious or clergy.
  • You may not refer to religious or clergy by names in a disrespectful manner.
  • You may not refer to, insinuate that, or state that a religious, cleric or lay person in good stanindg with the Church is a heretic or judge his status in any way. That is totally inappropriate.

This is not up for negotiations, discussions, debate or appeal. If there is more of this type of talk the posters may be infracted or banned. I hope that I make myself very clear.

The forum moderator and I have stated this before on similar threads. Please do not push the limits of charity. Share your opinions about the issues and keep your opinions about the individuals to yourselves.
