Most recent Democratic party platform:
You can think that you are just voting for one particular candidate who seems better, but the reality is that government is a team sport in the USA. If you vote for a Democrat you are cooperating with them enacting their platform:

I’m so upset about what happened to the democratic party. It used to be different. Democrats used to care about the sick, the weak and the helpless.
I agree.

I come from a long line of Irish Catholic democrats but things are just not the same in the democratic party anymore. I’m not saying the republicans are great because they are not but they are not supporting the same evils as the democratic party. Most of my Catholic family has left the democratic party over the recent years just because of what has happened.
I left the Dems back in 73 because of Roe v Wade, and …

Actually, third parties don’t “help” Democrats and Republicans. If Democrats and Republicans fail to put up desirable candidates, it is their fault alone. They are not simply entitled to our votes. They need to work hard to earn them. 🙂

Amen…

That’s why we need rank choice voting …look it up if you haven’t heard of it. That voting system seeks to legitimize 3rd parties and bust up the two party system we are beholden to.

More choice more voice!!
This is off-topic, but from what I am reading “ranked choice voting” or “instant runoff voting” still results in 2-party domination:

If you are going to vote for a third party candidate, you may as well not vote at all.

No, only a moral issue of equal or greater gravity can justify tolerating the evil of abortion. Nuclear war, euthanasia, genocide, gladiator games: these are the issues for which abortion could be tolerated, but not care for the poor, nor immigration. Make no mistake, you will give answer for failing to care for the poor and the stranger, but you shall not abdicate your responsibility to the State, let alone use it as an excuse to tolerate mass murder.

A vote for a pro-abortion candidate is a vote to tolerate the slaughter of a million innocents every year. There are very few moral issues which can outweigh such a huge evil, and you are being willfully blind if you think caring for the poor is one of them. You can’t honestly believe a million people will die each year if we cut food stamps. By the measure you judge, you shall be judged.

But what ARE you voting for? If you vote for a pro-abortion candidate because they are good on care for the poor, or the environment, or the economy, or education, you are equating that issue with the slaughter of a million innocents a year. It is incredibly arrogant to make a claim that such issues are worth permitting legalized murder.

I assume that you apply this universally and not just in the US. In Great Britain, I just don’t know who one could vote for in this case.

Abortion is simply not really on the agenda for most people here, nor for most politicians. Certainly there is no meaningful support for completely outlawing abortion. At most there is occasionally mention of moves towards every so slightly restricting access to abortion. Similarly, there is talk of the UK Parliament taking tentative steps towards legalising abortion in Northern Ireland, which is currently possible due to the Northern Ireland Assembly being temporarily, though seemingly indefinitely, suspended from operation.

It’s further complicated by the fact that abortion is one of the issues on which members of both houses of Parliament are typically guaranteed a free vote by their parties. While a party may have an official policy on abortion, its members will never be whipped to vote to support that policy. It’s therefore very difficult to know a candidate’s position on abortion unless he or she is particularly outspoken one way or the other. I can’t find a current list of members of the All-Party Parliamentary Pro-Life Group, but out of around 1,450 MPs and peers the number who are avowedly pro-life is probably barely in double figures (I assume that the bishops are pro-life, but I wouldn’t want to state that with absolute certainty). Prime minsters with strongly held Christian beliefs (Edward Heath, Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair, and Theresa May) have made no attempt to push a pro-life agenda.

In short, I have always voted for pro-abortion parties. This is partly because it is almost impossible to vote for a party that is not pro-abortion, partly because abortion is virtually absent from the political agenda in any meaningful way, and partly because I choose which party or individual to vote for based on the totality of their views, not just on one issue.

We are currently led by a government that is quite possibly the worst in our entire history: the first government ever to be held to be in contempt of Parliament and the government that has suffered the largest defeat in a parliamentary vote in the whole history of Parliament. Our prime minister called an entirely unnecessary early general election and managed to lose her majority, remaining in power through a highly distasteful arrangement with a Northern Irish party. Meanwhile, our official opposition offers no viable alternative. Its leader enjoys scant support within his own parliamentary party but retains the overwhelming support of his party membership due to far-left entryism on a huge scale. He presents no convincing or coherent political programme, but promotes long discredited ideologies and gives succour to tyrants and terrorists.

I am therefore left with the choice of voting for the Liberal Democrats, a pro-European centrist party with strong and intelligent leadership, or for another party such as the strongly pro-life British National Party. Personally, I would never vote for the BNP on account of their being essentially Nazis.

GOP is working to make the Free Market to grind children down instead of the mothers themselves.
Curious what you mean? Please elaborate?

He went on to say that neither war nor capital punishment is “proportionate”. If war isn’t, then nothing is.

Truth is, since the Dems do nothing they claim to do for the poor, middle class, etc, it is amazingly misguided, morally, to vote for abortion-promoting candidates for no reason whatever.

Not even for those things, since the Dems do nothing for the poor, for education, the environment or the economy. The party really has no program other than abortion and now, of course, infanticide.

I agree entirely. My experience has been essentially the same.

the proportional argument to excuse actions is just that, an excuse that people use. Point being, It’s never ok to do wrong or excuse wrong.

Incorrect. Catholics CANNOT support a pro choice candidate. Abortion is an objective evil and to support a cannidate who will pass pro-choice laws/ down vote pro life legislation, will be guilty of supporting abortion by default.
Can Catholics support a war hawk candidate? Whether you take life in the womb or elsewhere, is not life just as sacred either way?

Besides, why vote for either of the candidates? Democrats don’t believe in economic freedom and Republicans don’t believe in social freedom. Both parties seek to deny your freedom and replace it with Mommy Government. But USA has become a nation of pathetic babies, thinking that we need MOMMY to take care of us.

Depends on what one means by “war hawk”. Pope Benedict has already said that war is a matter of prudential judgment and is NOT “proportionate” to abortion. But a person could be imagined who wants to cause a worldwide nuclear war for no good reason. Voting against such a person, if he really had the power to do it, could be “proportionate”.

We could start by talking about presidents who illegally declare wars and carry them out. Which would include pretty much every president in my 62 years of life.
