This “rule” also ignores the fact that there are people out there who don’t have the mental or physical capacity to do anything more complex than these kind of jobs, and some of them have families to support, unfortunately. They exist—I’ve run into some of them—I used to work with developmentally-disabled adults. The phenomenon is probably becoming more common, not less common.

That is a variable that shouldn’t be totally ignored, either.

There IS something to be said for the demand side of the equation. Keynes wasn’t totally wrong.

Ok, so let’s talk about demand. You know what happens when working people get extra money? They spend it on goods and services, which creates demand for more goods and services…which creates more jobs for other working people and more profits for the people who own the process of making goods and services. It also brings in more tax revenue for the state and federal government. Higher pay means higher payroll taxes, purchases mean more tax revenue for the state that collects them. (like Florida) If people are making more money, they’re not needing money from the government to pay their rent and get food on the table-lowering entitlements costs for the government. Do you also know how many more working people there are than “rich” people? In a consumer based economy, doesn’t it make sense to have your largest segment of the population actually consuming?

Btw…my insurance costs me $60 a month because my employer subsidizes it. The same employer that sent us a letter last month informing us about the huge SAVINGS the Affordable Care Act provided the company and how those savings are being used to keep our costs low while providing even better service. It doesn’t fit into the CAF version of reality, but that doesn’t change reality.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. But I bet those who want to restrict my right to shop at Walmart probably want to restrict my right to buy chinese junk.

Sold in stores in America staffed by American workers and owned by Americans that pay taxes to America,

And they go out to eat at restaurants and are served by American workers, and they might even be able to go on vacation once every five years or so and travel to hotels staffed by American workers.

No, that’s anarchist logic. There is a place for government in the libertarian paradigm, and national defense is one of those functions.
