What Do You Wear Around Your Neck?

WHAT is a scapular??? Could someone please tell me?

Oh and I always wear a cross of some sort. It’s a witness I believe!!!
 
Right now I have a big honkin’ Miraculous Medal dangling around my neck.
 
I wear the Brown Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. If you are enrolled and wear it faithfully, the promise is that you will never suffer eternal fire. Encased in the Scapular is a highly indulgenced special Saint Benedict medal that protects against Satan’s influence.

How can anyone refuse such spiritual help? Think of the fabulous rewards. If you aren’t sure, what have you got to lose by taking a chance?

Bob, thanks for your enouragement to wear the scapular.

Um… toward the end there you sound like a scapular is a “game of chance” to try. Hearing that makes me very nervous that folks might get the impression that wearing the scapular, although you’re not really “bought into” the purpose and understand that you must be enrolled in it – and practice it.

Not much of a jewelry person. Had a beautiful Jerusalem Cross years ago and it got stolen. For my birthday my parish gave me a beautiful pectoral cross to wear with my Alb–a Greek “Cross Fleury”—equal length arms and sort of flowery knops on the ends, like a fleur de lis. Not quite as big as a hubcap, but still pretty big. 😉 I’ll wear it because they gave it to me. Of course after I put on the chasuble for the eucharist you won’t be able to see it anyhow.
 
I was wearing a Nail pendant on a leather cord chain, along with a cross. I just bought a beautiful pewter Papal Crucifx 1 1/2 inches long, and a silver rope chain for it…I’m gonna switch off and just wear my new crucifix. I think the Papal style is exquisite. 🙂
 
I didn’t vote because I couldn’t pick all that I wear. I wear the brown scapular with Michael The Archangel on it as well as the cross and the Benedictine Medal attached to it and a Crucifix and the Miraculous Medal
 
Has anyone explained a scapular to this person? I will try. A scapular is the garment worn over their robes by members of a religious order, it consists of 2 long pieces of cloth that hang down in front and behind the wearer. You often see pictures of monks and nuns in choir or procession walking with their hands under these long cloths, those are their scapulars, part of their habit, or “uniform”. The waring of a sort of “scapular” came to be associated with a particular devotion through St. Simon Stock, the founder of the Carmelites, who was given the brown “scapular” promises mentioned above by Our Blessed Lady during the Crusades. Followers of this devotion, instead of wearing the whole garment front and back wear small squares of cloth with sacred images on them, suspended around their necks by cords, front and back. In this way the wearer is invested with a symbolic “garment” and participates in the blessings associated with the promises. There is the green Sacred Heart Scapular and a red Scapular too, Precious Blood I think, can anybody think of others?

I wear St Michael the Ark Angel around my neck. I love angels and thank God for them.
 
I wear a small crucifix to remind me to pray and be grateful that God gave His son, and to remind me that I am God’s beloved child. It also serves as a useful reminder that I am Christ’s follower and should act accordingly.😉
 
Umm what do I wear - well could not vote in the poll because I have a silver chain with a silver Cross with a corpus on it and a medal showing on one side a Saint for whom I have a deep respect and on the other side is a representation of Our Mother
 
I wear my Wedding ring around my neck, my hands swell up these days for as of yet unknown reasons, and my crucifix and St. Sebastian Medal {I am an archer}
 
I wish you had a choice for “Combination of the above”. I usually wear a scapular under my outfit, and a crucifix and saints medal on a silver chain. I also often wear a rosary bracelet, so I can pray decades as I wait in line or have a break from my daily routine.

I always understand that scapular not as a free ticket to heaven but as a means of reminding me to “put on Christ” first, and to bear HIm close to my heart all day, without trumpeting my actions to others (lookat me! I go to daily Mass!), but keeping them hidden and private. For me it serves as a reminder of my Faith.
 
I have a crucifix and a little gold book that has 4 pages with a tiny hinge! On it is written the entire Lord’s Prayer (including the THINE IS THE KINGDOM… part).

I have 3 items on a single chain that I wear: tiny cross, small miraculous medal, and a french charm that is heart shaped, has a tiny cross and 3 red stones on it with the words (in french) “more than yesterday, less than tomorrow.”

I used to just wear a crucifix, but have recently added a Green Scapular and a medal of OL Perpetual Help.
 
I wear a scapular, crucifix and miraculas medal as well. No option with multiple answers.
 
You guys are gonna think i’m the strangest person in the world, but here goes nuthin’…

I wear around my neck…
  1. A five-fold scapular (it’s a devotional prayers dream come true! Red passion scapular, black scapular of the seven dolours (sorrows) of Mary, Brown Carmelite scapular, Blue Scapular of the Immaculate Conception, and White Trinity scapular. all kinds of daily stuff go with it. i love it! woo hoo!!!)
  2. a 3 inch St. Benedict cross that has a strange story behind it… from medugorje, tho i’ve never been there…
  3. A St. Benedict medal and lil’ bitty crucifix are on the chord for my scapular
  4. a St. Joseph medal
  5. a St. Paul and St. Peter medal
  6. a Holy Spirit medal (in remembrance of the Sacrament of Confirmation)
  7. a Miraculous Medal
  8. a St. Anthony medal (St. Anthony is MY BUDDY!!!) he’s my families patron saint. Boy have i got stories for St. Anthony, but i won’t go there now… maybe in a new thread…
So yea… that’s all my Holy Gear! lol

It’s awesome, tho, cuz i’m practically a walking devotional/sacramental, so sometimes when i’m in my highschool or with my friends, i take time out to do a prayer or something, and people just look at me like i’ve got brocoli growing out of my ears! But i do what i feel is necessary. it’s all for the Greater Glory of God!
