by fbl9: Who did Christ love? only those who followed Him? NO! He loved even those who crucified Him…“forgive them Father for they know not what they do”
True. Jesus loves mankind because He loves
all His “creation.”
Wisdom 11:24 “
For thou lovest all things that exist, and hast loathing for none of the things which thou hast made, for thou wouldst not have made anything if thou hadst hated it.” RSV-CE
He can never hate His creation, but the
only persons who
inherit eternal life are those who
love Him until they die. He has a specific definition of “love.” “Love” means to “obey” or “keep” His commandments:
**
1 John 5:3** “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome.”
2 Timothy 4:7-8 “I have fought the good fight,
I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8
Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have
loved His appearing.”
James 1:12 “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive** the crown of life** which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”
**In order to love Him, a person must obey Him (keep the faith until death). **
John 14:21-24 "A little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also. 20 At that day you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you. 21
He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, how is it that You will manifest Yourself to us, and not to the world?” 23
Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.
Jesus only makes His home in the hearts and souls of those who love Him, and these persons who
keep His commandments are the only ones who actually
love Him.
1 Peter 4:17 “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first,
what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?”
What happens to those
who do not obey His commandments (His gospel)?
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 “when the
Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, 8
in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and
on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction”
Those who do not obey His gospel are condemned to flaming fire for eternity. He only saves those who obey (love) Him.
Galatians 6:7-8 “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8
For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.”
Hebrews 5:8-9 “though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected,
He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,”
If we do not obey His gospel (keep His commandments and produce good fruits), then we will not inherit eternal life.
Matthew 19:16-19 "Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher,
what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”
17 So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But
if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 He said to Him, “Which ones?”
Jesus said, “ ‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’ 19 ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”
What happens to those who commit sin (lawlessness) and who do not repent before death?
Matthew 7:22-23 “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘
I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”
1 John 3:4 “
Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and
sin is lawlessness.”
Matthew 13:40-42 “Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. 41 The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and
those who practice lawlessness, 42 and
will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
Matthew 7:20-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall
enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘
I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”
Jesus states what we must do in order to inherit eternal life. We must obey His commandments and do the Will of His Father in order to receive the crown of eternal life.
Paul disciplines himself so that he does not sin and thereby deny the faith:
1 Corinthians 9:26-27 “Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27
But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
Philippians 2:12 “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;”
1 Corinthians 11:1 “
Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”
I suggest we
imitate Paul
if we desire to inherit eternal life. Be “doers of the word and not hearers only” until death and we will then be approved to inherit eternal life when we die. (James 1:21-25, James 1:12)
