What is your favorite bird? And every fowl encounter you've had under the sun

That would be most likely except California Gnatcatchers are endangered. (I didn’t know that) Looking at the range maps it appears you get Blue-gray Gnatcatchers migrating and wintering in your area. They are a lot more common. Also, bushtits are hyperactive, little gray birds with fairly long tails. They’re a fairly common backyard bird, but they usually run around in small flocks.

Hope that helps.

I was driving with my mum this afternoon ,and caught sight of a hawk hovering high up then diving with folded wings.I spotted the commotion in a small dam between redgums…a woodduck flapping at the hawk as it tried to attack her ducklings on the water :0

I had a Western Screech Owl in my yard last night. It was calling and I could see it’s silhouette. That’s the first time I’ve actually seen one. A Great Horned Owl has been around recently for the first time this year as well.

I also had a Warbling Vireo and a visit my water feature yesterday. That would be only the fourth time I’ve seen this bird in my back yard.

A rare sparrow was reported at a nearby park so I set out in the late morning to find it. I didn’t find the bird in question but I did find the sparrows it was alleged to be running with. Here’s a few shots. These are Brewer’s Sparrows which look a lot like my target bird.

It’s fun peeking into the lives of sparrows.

After a few tutorials, I’m finally getting my new camera dialed in. I like the results. It is a lot faster and lets in a lot more light than the last one.

What camera did you buy, Tad? The pictures are lovely.
A Nikon D7500. It’s like a mid-range model of their professional flagship model without all the bells and whistles.

Here’s a few shots of a Broad-billed Hummingbird I took in my garden yesterday afternoon.

Look what I found yesterday! The city started pumping water into the old river bed downtown and this Purple Gallinule showed up. This is a bird that I’ve only seen in the Everglades. Amazing.

I love the Australian birds. My particular favourites are the Major Mitchell Cockatoo, the bellbird, and the coachwhip. I am pretty much in love with all Birds of Paradise.

Last Sunday was a good one for me. As well as the Purple Gallinule, I got a second Arizona life bird, a Clay-colored Sparrow. I had a great time chasing this thing down in a park near me. I eventually found it hanging out with a large flock of Brewer’s Sparrows (45+). This is Arizona life bird #352 for all of you scoring along at home.

Here’s a gnatcatcher from last Sunday. By the looks of it’s undertail, this is probably a blue-gray.

(edited to add that I posted these two same photos on Facebook and one of my friends commented, “It looks like it’s saying, ‘that looks like it’s probably Tad’”.)

“Praised be You, my Lord, through Sister Water,
Which is very useful and humble and precious and chaste.”

Fitting words from St. Francis for this morning’s offering of a seagull in flight and three little sandpipers.

I’m noticing increased hummingbird activity at my feeder for the last few days. It was not that busy all summer.

Who needs a bird photo!?!

Lincoln’s Sparrow from my bird walk yesterday. It seems a little concerned about my presence.
