We have ducks and the occasional heron at the small lake near my home, along with pileated wookpeckers. I love watching the ducks as they grow up and lookf forward to spotting the babies in spring. For songbirds, the redwing blackbirds are my favorite in the area.
 
Did someone mention snipe?. This one was in Oregon.

When I was in college that bird was my personal icon in my drawings and etchings. I suppose I related to it’s goofy grin. 😀

How cool for you. Here’s another pic of the two youngsters that showed up near hear last summer. The Cinnamon Teal look like they’re welcoming these odd looking strangers. The dark birds are White-faced Ibis. This was only the third record for spoonbills in Cochise county.

Here’s an oldie but a goodie, a bit out of focus but the photo’s over 30 years old. This was the Red-crowned Amazon parrot we had back in the early 1980s. We had to give him to a neighbor when we moved from that house 😥, and we’ve since lost touch with that neighbor. I wonder where he is now?

Parrots can live a long time I think?
Did he have a few tricks up his sleeve? Talk or dance?
 
They can live up to 70 years, they say, so he might still be alive somewhere. He would say hello, and make lots of other squawking parrot noises.
