So excited and can’t wait to see the Muny 100 exhibit at the history museum!

we are so spoiled in the STL with the Muny. Seeing all the love for West Side Story in this thread makes me excited to see Jerome which opens tonight. The joy of being an empty nester - I have season tickets. We aren’t too much below the freebies but it does force us to set the night aside. I’m a bit disappointed in the 100th season but can’t wait to see Jersey Boys, Singing in the Rain and of course, Meet Me in St Louis.

The Sound of Music
My Fair Lady
Hello Dolly
Fiddler on the Roof
Grease
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory 2005 (Does that count?)

Another one I just remembered, Cabaret. I even watched it (just once) dubbed in German, even the songs. It makes quite an impression!

“Yankee Doodle Dandy” – oh, such a fun movie! There are problems with it historically, of course (Mary was his second wife), but those songs are so wonderful and so singable… though I still cringe at the minstrel scene with the blackface. 😱

Les Mis
Jekyll and Hyde (the gothic version)
The Phantom of the Opera

Not ordered by favoritism…they are all pretty much #1
I agree 100%. Les Mis: preferred the original on the revolving stage, especially when the students after being shot and the barricade revolved slowly to the solo of the clarinet; very moving. The new version is more technical, but no revolving staging.

There were several errors in it, yes, but none detracted from it as a film.

In The Glenn Miller Story they also portrayed a beautiful love story between Glenn and his wife. I think she was also a second wife in real life. I have a feeling that Hollywood in those days was either reluctant or forbidden to show a divorced person falling in love. Or they just wanted the protagonist to be of flawless character?

Yeah, it’s not my favorite season either, but I’m looking forward to taking my 4yo girl to see Annie!

Forgive me, but I just have to share this – it from James Corden’s late night show. He does this carpool karaoke segment sometimes. This is right before he hosted the Tony Awards in 2016.

He starts with Lin-Manuel Miranda (composer, lyricist, and star of Hamilton) in the car. Then they pick up a few friends along the way, and sing some Broadway tunes the way many of us probably sing in our cars when we’re alone. 😊

It is hilarious and wonderful at the same time! And I love watching this just to hear Audra McDonald sing – what an amazing voice!

Language warning for the first line of the first song only (it describes Alexander Hamilton in less-than flattering terms).

Enjoy! (especially if you are a Les Miserables fan :+1:t4:)

While I quite liked Godspell when I was a kid and still like some of the songs, last year I went back and watched the movie and took a look at some live versions of it and the script and acting were painfully, embarrassingly bad. Yikes.

To my knowledge, Glenn Miller and his wife Helen Burger Miller were only married to each other. They met in college, although they didn’t get married until a little later in life.

There is no article I can find referencing a first marriage for either of them, and Glenn and his wife are also in various people’s public geneaology trees with no other marriages listed.

I think it was probably a combo of that and also for brevity.

Cohan’s first wife’s name was Ethel Leavy, though I believe that was her stage name. He was assuredly married twice.

He also had children, not referenced in the movie.

Levey - I spelled it wrong.

Thanks so much for doing the research! It’s been ages (20 years?) since I looked into that information and definitely got my composers mixed up. 😊
