Two days ago, I decided to listen to music again. I was getting tired of talk radio becuase they are talking about the same things and bashing each other. I Need a break!

I’ve gone back to listening to Country.
With pop music being raided by r&b and rap, Country seems to be the only format left that Actually sings words.

I left listening to Country back in 1997 when the music seemed too much like Rock, but I have swung a bit in accepting the fact that music changes too. However I am finding Country stations over the Internet that plays the Classics (what I grew up on).

Absalom!:
I listen to a lot of metal (Metallica, Living Sacrifice, System of a Down), mainstream rock (Creed, Alter Bridge). I like some jazz, like Ani Defranco, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, and I like a lot of older bands . . . Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Doobie Bros. There are so many bands I listen to . . . can’t narrow it down to one category.

It is pretty safe to exclude country as a category, though.
Have you ever heard of Savatage?..How about Rammstein?..you might like them too!

I like a little country though…very little.

I’ve heard Rammstein, and sorry to say I don’t really like them that much. I haven’t heard Savatage, though. I might have to check them out. Thanks for the tip.

I listen to mostly Christian music. When I really want to focus on God, I use worship music by Michael W. Smith or Hillsong usually. For songs that tell stories, Ray Boltz is a favorite. For good old fashioned Rock and Roll, Petra, Clay Cross, Bob Carlisle, Point of Grace, John Elefante (who was the lead singer of Kansas before he found God) and many others. For secular music, I like everything from classical to Louis Armstrong, Bob Seegar, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, and country.

I mostly listen to Christian music. Secular music tends to get me down if I listen to it too much. The words to a lot of songs are so negative it actually makes me feel depressed sometimes. Christian music, on the other hand, is very positive and uplifting.

I can understand that . . . however, I find the generally bad lyrics of most Christian music to be depressing. I just can’t help it. I don’t get inspired by bad lyrics, no matter how good the message. The only contemporary Christian song I can think of that doesn’t have bad lyrics is that “I Can Only Imagine” song. Not brilliant, but good lyrics. I do respect some of the lyrics of Living Sacrifice (Christian heavy metal), although they aren’t wonderful, either.

Country is the sweetest music in the whole world…I used to hate it, but now it’s the only thing I listen to in the car! Other than that, we have some amazing local Christian bands that play at our coffee house and around in the city, for ex: 3CW (formally SoK), ATO, ATF, Foolish Things, Archimedes, CIA, ReGardLess, etc…they’re mostly punk/pop/rock, and they’re all amazing+Christian…which is great music:)

Go country music… YEE HAW!!! 🙂

Some of my favorites are Alan Jackson, Kenny Chesney, and Tim McGraw. I also like Martina McBride’s song - God’s Will. Have you heard it?

I didn’t vote, because you couldn’t select more than one kind. I like all kinds of music (exept Rap…Arrgh!).

I love:
John Michael Talbot
Fr. Stan Fortuna
Aerosmith - My #1 favorite band
Van Morrison
Bob Seger
Eric Clapton
Rod Stewart
Rolling Stones
The Beatles
Etta James
Bette Midler
Celine Dion
Elvis
Harry Connick Jr.
Aaron Neville
Charlotte Church
John Cougar Mellancamp

Swamp Pop (a type of music familiar to Louisianians)

Newer stuff: Maroon 5 and Los Lonely Boys

Country: pretty much only George Strait, Clint Black, and Alabama and some much older stuff like Hank Williams, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, which is what my parents raised me on, but other than those few, I can’t stand what Country has become, it all sounds alike and doesn’t resemble Country in the least. New Country sounds like Pop (e.g. Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Leann Rhimes, Kenny Chesney).

Don Mclean, Johnny Cash, Steve Miller band, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Lynard Skynard. Just to name a few.

I like to listen to all sorts of different music-from Bach and Beethoven to Garth Brooks to show tunes. However, my two favorite things to listen to: Amy Grant and *Queen. *

Lots! I dig…

Folk: celtic, bluegrass, Kingston Trio(ish), etc.
Celtic punk: The Pogues, The Tossers, Blood or Whisky, etc.
Classical: Anything but “chamber music” (too dirge-like!)
Classic rock: The usual suspects.
Old progressive rock: Gentle Giant, King Crimson, (old) Genesis…
Some Christian rock: “Kutless” kicks butt!
Old country: Waylon, Johnny Cash, etc.

I guess all I can rule out is:
New country: Twangy pop music
Opera: Boooorrrrriiiinnnggg!
Elevator music
Rap of any kind (but that **** isn’t music anyway!!)

Peace!

Opera!

And at this moment La Boheme.
La Boheme is tight. didn’t it inspire R.E.N.T. though, pretty much the worst music ever?
I listen mostly to real pretentious, name-dropping music like Autolux, Blonde Redhead, Ida, Rasputina, and a lot of dischord bands.

…the best, dead or alive…

I didn’t vote because you don’t have my category.
Why don’t you have talk radio for us non-music listeners?

But if I must I will date myself; Floyd, Zepplin, Doors, CCR, Country Joe and the Fish, Hendrix, Willie Nelson, Deano, and the Chairman of the Board.

ex-mo

I listen to NPR in the truck, and Sirius in the house mostly. On CDs I ike to listen to Christian music…REAL Christian music like Bach’s B Minor Mass, Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, the Reqiems of Motzart anf Faure.

I do not listen to pop/rock/hard rock music with Christian words.
and I despise rap/hip hop “music”. It ain’t music, music has pitch, the notes go up and down. Rap is just talking set to music.

I get a feeling that I’m getting old.
